Not Bad, A Hard Story
docm-323044 January 2021
Overall, the film is watchable and a good story of forgiveness plus a realistic picture of how churches stumble. There are some plot and acting issues, like the whilrwind courship amongst others, but not too bad.

So deeply disappoinnted in the conclusion

Warning: Spoilers
This was a movie that immediately caught my attention from the title. I turned it on to watch and I was impressed with the actor portraying the pastor; he seemed so genuine. The church members also were very reallistically portrayed. The wheelchair deacon, very mean at first, turned out to be a hero. The prostitute-girlfriend - did an excellent job of conveying the turmoil in the life she had chosen, as well. My disappointment was off the charts when the star, good-guy, man-of-God gets killed by the no good pimp when he turns around to take the bullet intended for his atruggling wife. No!!!! He should have at least been given a chance to recover and fulfill his dream. The moral of this story is "You can't win." I waited patiently to see the pimp be arrested and put in jail or killed or something fitting what he deserved. Do another movie like this one and this time let the end be a victory for good not evil. . This review is intended for the creators not the potential audience.

Great production

This film was beautifully done. Whoever wrote the previous review is wrong. The editing, music, sound levels sounded great on tv, directing, cinematography, acting was very well done. Obviously not the biggest budget but well done. Great work. Has a classical film feel we all miss. Jenkins brothers did their thing on this. Don't let that negative comment mean anything. Haters going to hate.

It's A Sin!

The story here is solid, however, the casting acting, editing and directing are all terrible. The audio level jump from scene to scene, the lighting doesn't match and I can't stress enough how bad the acting is. Considering most of the cast don't have any serious credits, it's clear this was done with a limited budget.

At the end of the day it's a technical mess of a Tyler Perry film. At least in Tyler's films, the audio, lighting and editing are consistent. With slighter better direction and better casting this would be a 6/10, 7, if everyone hit a home run, but I'm convinced that every positive review here is from a cast, crew or family member. Holy Water couldn't save this movie from Hell.

Loved the movie

I loved this movie. It instantly grabbed my attention as well. The story of Gomer is one that should be told more. The ending was surprising but nevertheless, the message of love, redemption, forgiveness, mercy, and God's faithfulness was ver well conveyed. Job well done!!!

Bad acting, decent story

With all of the celebrities in this movie, the acting was still very poor. Definitely not a 7 like it is rated as. It had some funny moments. I watched for free and was very bored so I gave it a shot.

Horrible acting but great storyline and moral
ajloewer27 February 2023
I had a hard time sitting through the weak acting but the message of God's love kept me watching. I'm a member of the LDS church and I love the message that we need to love more and judge less. God is a physician and said in Matthew 9:12: "They that be whole need not a physician, but they that are sick." We are all "sick" but God is there to help people who know they are sick. Spiritually speaking, they understand they need help. They are open to the truth: that they need saving.

I thought the stars of the movie were One-Eye Peters and Ginger. Their acting skills were far better than the rest.

Thank you for sharing this story with the rest of us.

Romance, Love, Faith, Suffering and ultimately Redemption

Let me start by saying, as soon as Pastor Shephard pulled up in his car with the license plate that read "SINNERS," I was ready to give the movie at least 7 stars. And then my dude had tattoos and opened up the church gates to the neighborhood, I thought, "alright, I LOVE this reverend!!!"

However, there were a few things that didn't quite add up. This was not a megachurch. This was a small neighborhood church. So why were they so afraid of addicts and prostitutes? Speaking of prostitutes, our heroine, Gigi, really showed up to church in full prostitute attire? These things seemed improbable.

Other than that, the story was FANTASTIC! I had read reviews regarding the acting, but I've seen far worse in my Lifetime/Hallmark movies. The acting was adequate. Besides, the chemistry between Ginger and Leo was amazing, and there were so many heartwarming moments.

In one scene, Leo pays for Gigi's time, but she mistakenly thinks he paid for sex and came out of the shower naked. Leo quickly turned his back and said, "I'm in a covenant with God. Sex is for marriage!" Gigi, mortified, exclaimed, "Oh my God, I just got naked in front of a pastor." Leo replied, "It's okay to be naked---in front of God." That became a repeated theme in the movie. And there was a beautiful montage of Gigi and Leo bonding, and him baptizing her.

Gigi and Leo had instant, credible chemistry. The actors looked perfect together, but storywise I didn't understand why Leo was so attracted to Gigi. When Leo's backstory was revealed, it all made perfect sense.

None of the leaders in the church could be trusted, so Leo (Pastor Shephard's) wise counsel came from the church's facility director, One Eye, who was once a notorious drug dealer.

Despite being warned about the ending, I initially thought it tarnished the message, but upon further reflection, I see the purpose behind it and it makes perfect sense--sometimes our direction in life is revealed through our suffering. Gigi's transformation is the message.

The movie also did a great job of exposing the hypocrites within the church and ensuring that the bad guys got what they deserved in the end.

Overall, an excellent movie deserving of many, many stars!!
