Raid Review
AnishMisra1 June 2018
Raid is a film directed by Rajkumar Gupta. After watching the trailer I felt I had to just watch this film as it was the comeback of Ajay Devgn to do something substantial. After watching, it felt like it ticked all the boxes for me.

Plot: Amay Patnaik, an IRS officer decides to raid the home of Rameshwar Singh, an MP in one of the longest raids in the history of India.

Story and direction: This film is written by Ritesh Shah who has written some good films in the recent times. The script is the strongest thing in this entire film. Being 128 minutes long the film never feels dragged and unnecessary. Some of the dialogues of this film are very good. The comedy in the film too is very subtle and doesn't go overboard. The story gives a chance for the lead characters to shine and that is the strongest point of the screenplay. Kudos to Rajkumar Gupta and team, for making this film see the light of the day. The feel of the 1980's is there in every shot and the editing is very crisp. But I did feel that some scenes felt unreal. Also some characters felt very under-utilized and felt that could have been explored more.

Performanes: Ajay Devgn is the star performer of the film. He is in a great spot and proves that good scripts will just enhance his performance. Illeana D'Cruz although doesn't have much of a role but does provide good support to Devgn's character. Saurabh Shukla proved to be a very competitive villain to Devgn's character. He was just perfect. Amit Sial gave a good performance too. Here I would like to specially mention Pushpa Joshi. Given the fact of her age and being a non-actor she does a very fine job.

Music: The songs are by Amit Trivedi and Tanishk Bagchi. Being a T-Series production, Itb was usual that there would be reused songs. Although the songs were good, they did have no impact on forwarding the film (Tanishk's songs). The other 2 songs were good and had a good impact especially 'Jhuk Na Paunga' that is played during the end credits. The BGM by Amit Trivedi was awesome.

Favorite Scene: It would be the one where Amay enters Tauji's home and says that he has come to perform a search and seizure operation in his house. The acting and the dialogues in that scene is what made this scene very unique.

Verdict: It was good to see Ajay Devgn do a quality film after many years. This film is very entertaining. Although not perfect, but I did have a good time watching this film.

I am going with an 8/10.

Story of the movie
Rasty-Jabar29 June 2018
Raid is that kind movie that directly go to the main point or event on the movie. Start with showing police that do levy ( gathering taxes from rich people). He is tall guy and with black hair and with brown skin. He is honest so tough on the rules he does not accept any bribe. He wants to perform the rules with every detail in every where even where he is with his wife. I am now going to talk about some point on the movie

Songs on the movie it is not good so if you are searching for movie with good movie this is not that kind. Although there is not much action on the movie there are some in the end but generally this movie is not action movie.

However this movie is mysterious movie but it isn't so complicated because at the beginning you know who's criminal and you know what the movie about the mystery part is where this man hidden his many due to avoid taxing to government .

Another part of the movie show love between wife and husband while job of husband jobs making thier life difficult but this is do not make effect on wife, she support her husband even when he looks like going to fail in his mission she does not have doubt about his husband.

In conclude raid is good movie , it deserves watching it because show dignity, honesty and loyalty a man for his job

A captivating crime thriller with enuff tension n suspense. Devgan was terrific n so were the dialogues.
Fella_shibby20 March 2018
Saw this in a theatre. The plot is about an honest n brave income tax officer who conducts a raid at a very powerful man's house. As a fan of Devgan, i went to see this without watching the trailer or reading any reviews. It is a very mesmerizing film with solid tension n suspense throughout. Apart from awesome acting by Devgan n Shukla, the best part was the editing. U dont feel bore for even a sec. The climax reminded me of a zombie film where hordes of angry mob have surrounded people who are inside a house n anytime the mob can barge into. The background song during the climax was good too n so was the mild twist. Two things bothered me, first the romantic song n second, during the end scene it takes the mob a helluva time to break n barge into the room even after the door being wooden n glass one whereas....... Still i loved the film n Devgan was terrific. His HMT watch was awesome.

Predictable but will keep you hooked
anupkranal4 October 2018
Raid has been one of those movies where the script and the plot demand it to be kept short. Raj kumar Gupta knew it very well and with a run time of 122 mins he decided not to be over ambitious. The entire movie is based upon a single raid and 80% of the movie is shot in a single house. Therefore it was a herculean task to keep the movie interesting. Raj kumar Gupta has been able to keep the audience hooked through the earnest performances of his lead and supporting actors. The dialogues seemed real and were not over filmy. Despite being an entertaining watch there are some noteworthy flaws in the writing and it is not easy to ignore them. For instance, in the first half Ajay Devgan and his team could not find any of the black money but as soon they found the first lot, they started finding the money from very part of the house. These are some of the glitches but overall it is a nice watch if you can ignore them

A raid that you see coming!
BubbleBollywood27 March 2018
All things considered, leading the greatest raid ain't a simple thing as the authorities uncovering gold coins and unbounded notes from divider roofs, sewers et cetera. Yet, it gets repetitive when all that the story sticks to is demonstrating the raid unfurl gradually. While there were a couple of scenes that evoked chuckles and applauds, the plot didn't appear to have anything different. Likewise, IT officials directing the raid obediently reminded us of Neeraj Pandey's 'Special 26' where Akshay Kumar held the reins. Be that as it may, this raid does not have a similar profundity and power and just restricts itself to seem to be a verbal contention between a genuine IT officer and a degenerate lawmaker. You can foresee the result and that itself is the place the story misses out on some brownie points. While Ajay Devgn's turn as the courageous IT officer may inspire his fans, we believe it about time he reevaluates himself. On a parting note , don't go in expecting something much excessively charming, yet keep your ears open for some great dialogues!

Raid is a good attempt to show the corrupted politicians and businessmen looting public's money
ketgup8318 March 2018
After watching films like Aamir, No One Killed Jessica and even the experimental Ghanchakkar, I have been an ardent fan of Raj Kumar Gupta's work. The trailer of Raid itself gives you goosebumps and makes it to my watch list of must-see films this year. Will it do justice to the audience, let us find out ..

Raid talks about one of high-profile case set in 1980's where an Income Tax Officer (Ajay Devgan) investigates the most powerful man of Lucknow, Rameshwar Singh aka Tauji (Saurabh Shukla).

I have personally witnessed raids and can vouch for right tone set by Raj Kumar Gupta where group of 20-something Income Tax officer follows the procedure of raiding the big shot. We are introduced to the character of Ajay Devgan, Amay Patnaik, who has been transferred 49 times before following his duty with honesty. The party scene where he meets Saurabh Shukla is well-laid out but the film catches the steam when Amay Patnaik gets a tip-off that there is sum of 420 crores being hidden at Tauji's premises. The film will grab your attention as Amay chalks out the plan and builds his army to raid Tauji's house. After number of failed attempts, Amay finally cracks the case and discovers the wealth hidden in different parts of the house. The second half rolls out when Tauji threatens Amay and his team by local mob attacks which is well-executed. Climax, which becomes a crucial part , loses the steam little bit and could have been better made.

Raj Kumar Gupta has done a good job in preparing the characters and keeping you engaged. There are several moments in the film that shines and even clap worthy. The diaologue-baazi between Ajay Devgan and Saurabh Shukla is superb while few humor in this serious film do stand out. However, the songs are misplaced and not tuneful. The narratives seems sometimes stretch and screenplay loses the mark somewhere in between. On the other side, cinematography and art direction is superb while dialogues are mindblowing. Background score by Amit Trivedi is well-placed with each scenes. Performances in the film are good. Ajay Devgan does well as serious and honest officer. Saurabh Shukla is just getting better with each film. The character he plays is somewhat similar to the one in "Kaun Kitney Paani Mein" (should watch this film) though he is little serious in this one. However, the actor who plays Tauji's character, Pushpa Joshi, steals the show. You will laugh out loud the moment she speaks her dialogue. I wish she could have more scenes.

Overall, Raid is a good attempt to show the corrupted politicians and businessmen looting public's money. Go for it. Good 3/5

Derivative
Jithindurden11 June 2018
The main problem with Raid is that from the trailer itself you know the whole story of the film and for the most part, it's a film that has been seen in Indian films way too many times. But the making is better than most of the previous iterations of the story in a way that it skips a lot of mandatory checkboxes and just barely satisfies some of them for a popular Bollywood film format for becoming a genre film. There are some very good moments in between too, but it soon becomes repetitive and there is no real tension because anyone can predict the next scene if they are familiar with some of the Indian political crome films and the film never tries anything new.

A must watch entertainer
shadikabir10 April 2018
Raid could possibly be the best income-tax based film out there in world cinema at the moment and carries the world entertainment on its head. It stars Ajay Devgn and Saurabh Shukla in main roles and is directed by the wonderful Raj Kumar Gupta (Aamir, No One Killed Jessica, Ghanchakkar).

STORY: Honest Income-Tax officer Amay Patnaik (Ajay) is transferred for the 49th time in his career to Lucknow along with his wife (Ileana) where he gets a tip while settling down. He is given lots of information and also does his own investigation. Still unsure whether the information is correct, he conducts a raid from the info, leading him into the household of the notorious Tauji, the most powerful man in Lucknow. The film is based on one of the biggest raids in India. The plot contains lots of twists, which creates a ton of suspenseful moments throughout the film making this a gripping watch.

CAST: I can't hesitate in saying that this is one of Ajay Devgn's best performances till date. Ajay's acting looks effortless and amazing on screen, making him one of my favourite actors in Bollywood. Saurabh Shukla is also fantastic and thee two actors cannot be compared. Ileana D'Cruz Iooks pretty but doesn't really have much to do. But in whatever she has been given, it is completed very nicely. All the supporting cast members carry very strong performances as well and there is not one complaint with the casting.

TECHNICAL: The direction is absolutely amazing from Gupta and feels seamless when watching the movie. Writing is one of the films biggest plus points and is done in such a way that the audience will never be given a chance to feel bored. The dialogues given to Devgn and Shukla and punchy and powerful and give the film strength. Ritesh Shah has written an impressive script and a gripping screenplay which makes this film the success it is. The editing is a job well done and at a runtime of 120 mins, the film never feels prolonged and the interest does not get lost midway.

MUSIC: To be honest, I loved the soundtrack. The songs are soulful and full of heart. Sanu Ek Pal Chain is a slow paced remake sung by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and is nice to the ears. Nit Khair Manga is a tad faster, also sung by Khan, and is a bit too heavy on the Punjabi lyrics, and while it also misses out on that trademark essence from Rahat, it's still not a bad listen. Black by Sukhwinder Singh acts as the title track if the film and with its punchy bass and strong vocals, it is undoubtedly one of the strongest in the album. Jhuk Na Paunga is my favourite, sung by the soothing Papon and just has a good feel to it, and is a song that perfectly suits Ajay's character in the film.

To conclude, this film contains all the suspense, tension, action, and moments that a film in this genre should have. This film is one of the best watches of 2018 so far, and can be watched multiple times. But the best effect is in the cinema. Hats off to the entire team of Raid, but especially Raj Kumar Gupta. Well done

Must watch cinema which is waiting for your Raid in Theaters.
prafullasrivastav16 March 2018
Direction:

No One Killed Jessica fame Raj Kumar Gupta has done exceptionally brilliant job as a director of period crime thriller. Audience engagement from beginning to climax was the key feature of his movie. His last outing Ghanchakkar created messy life for the audience but this time he bounce back with fresh story with great star casts.

Performance:

Both Ajay Devgn and Saurabh Shukla have delivered the finest performances from different ends. Ajay Devgn has played similar kind of role in Gangajal and Singham where he was fighting against corrupt system. Ileana D'Cruz looks pretty and cute in short role of typical wife of Government officer. Pushpa Joshi(Amma ji), Sheeba Chaddha,Gayathri Iyer, Sulagna Panigrahi and Saanand Verma were also done great job in their roles.

Dialogue and Story:

Ritesh Shah has strengthen two important pillars of this cinema: Dialogue and Story. Dialogues were witty and full of punches. On the delivery of some good dialogue, claps, whistles and shouting are required. Story is inspired from Ramayana e.g. Ravana and Vibhishana concept. Audience got small clues in between but suspense was really tricky one. Inclusion of pain and sufferings of family , friends and spouse where one person is fighting against corrupt system was really made script more robust.

Music:

This was only one area where we can see some improvement required although Rahat Fateh Ali khan was quite impressive in Sanu Ek Pal Chain song. Nit Khair Manga song from Rahat Fateh Ali khan is also good one.

Last Words:

Run for this Raid to watch in cinema halls.

Not extraordinary. One time watch.
maulin516 March 2018
Ajay Devgn is back to entertain his fans & this time he is in Raid as an Income-tax officer. Directed by Rajkumar Gupta, this film tells a story of India's longest raid that happened in 1981.

Though, the subject is about a single raid, it is difficult to make a full feature film without loosing audience. Ritesh Shah, writer of this film, has done commandable job. But, it could have been made with more intense drama, more sharp dialogue and more twists and turns. Other than that, I think this film has no other negative point.

Saurabh Shukla is again delivering a power-pack performance. Ileana is sweet and subtle in her tiny role. The old actress who is playing Saurabh Shukla's mother, is the major plus point of this film. Whenever she comes on the screen, it is hard to control your smile. Apart from her, Amit Sial plays an important role to entertain people.

Ajay Devgn has given another good performance. Though, I have to admit that this is not his best. He has many roles which will be remembered by me, but not this one.

There are three songs. Last song by Papon is good. Other two songs by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan are not required in the film. But, they don't take much time, so it's fine.

There are two dialogues which I really liked: 'Jo apni zuban ka nahi, Wo insan bhi hai kya!'& 'India ke officers ka nahi, unki Biwiyon ka bahadur hona zaruri hai!'

I went to see some extraordinary film, but it is not at all close. In my screen, where Ajay's fans came too, were not cheering or whistling, and I guess it's because the film lacks in punches. I don't know I am right or wrong, but as compare to Sonu or Padman, this film gives nothing to me (at least).

On the whole, if you are Ajay's fan, then go for it. Anyone can watch it one time. It is not bad. But for me, it is not superb, too.

Nice movie based on true events
ganeshkarkigk17 June 2018
This is one of the few movie with good content since based on true events. The good thing about movie is it doesn't have typical Bollywood style Melodrama or Unnecessary stardom. Ajay Devgan beautifully plays his character and one of the good thing about it is its dialogues. They are short and smart throughout the movie. Except for few unnecessary and forced songs inserted at critical time, the movie keeps you engage till the very end.

Good points:
  • Story is too the point
  • Short and smart dialogues
  • Good acting, no melodrama

Not so Good points
  • Unecessary songs that too at wrong timing breaking the flow of serious suspense section
  • Story wise being a officer in the field of IT some things were not easily acceptable like him needing some inputs from others to figure out things

A good movie for one time watch. A good experience. It leaves you feeling pity about how people are so gullible someetime.

Good and tense movie
DeadMan6613 June 2018
The movie is all about the courage and the honesty that man must have in life. The movie is of honest Income tax officer but can be applied to all the people, to be honest and perform their duty without corruption. This was the must needed movie for Indian cinemas and the people. The movie is good and interesting. Thinking of many possibilities what an IT officer had to do during and after the raid and how he can make the situation under control was amazing. Many things to learn while watching. A must watch movie.

A very average cat and mouse game but it offers some hope
dineshprakash16 March 2018
Director Mr. Rajkumar Gupta work is good. Story, screenplay and dialogues by Ritesh Shah are good. He has induced humour in very subtle and realistic way. Characterization is shaky. Male protagonist is established in very beginning of film that he strictly follows rule even it is routine and civil but he breaks major raid rule deliberately by allowing main antagonist to leave the house while raid is going on. Perhaps, he does it just for interval shake and second half drama otherwise there wouldn't be any second half. Film claims that it is based on true incidents and tries to follow this line but when gold bars starts pouring from false ceiling after a gunshot looks to flimsy. Even Hero repeats it, who was established as smart enough to dig out black money from all raids but he overlooked so simple false ceiling to even check it. There is a smart scene which established Villain brutality in very subtle but effective way, when he forcefully tries to feed his mother, whom he was shown taking care off. This whole raid was based on a tip off so confrontation between antagonist and protagonist does not intrigues much as you are sure about finding of hidden black assets. There was tension just about to build up then the tip off again made is so simple and convenient. Performance wise Shaurabh Shukla as antagonist Rajeshwar Singh is mind blowing. Without any typical villain scene he makes you believe that he is brutal, cunning and merciless. Ajay Devgan as Amay Patnayek is first rate in his comfort zone. Ileana D'Cruz looks pretty and acts well too. Actor, who played IT officer Lalan is very good. Rest are ok.

Watching Raj Kumar Gupta's fantastic thriller, Raid, is like an exercise in suspense that gets better and better as you follow Ajay Devgn's Income Tax department official raiding the mansion of city's most corrupt and lovable kingpin (Saurabh Shukla) and not finding what he looks for until predictability hits in and you experience some political movement that reflect close reality of India.
