Unintentional comedy?
jlynn-0724116 February 2019
I laughed through the entire movie. It is so bad. The only way to describe it is Hot Potato, the horror movie.

Meh...take it or leave it
thersmith16 June 2020
It's not quite as terrible as some of the one-star reviews made it out to be. The story isn't all that original but there was still a level of fun to it that could have been saved with better actors and a little more carefully placed attention on the cinematography. I hate to see it given a one star. Four seems adequate.

Not the worst you can do with independent horror but far from the best.

Wow...
mail-1903529 July 2019
It's like a bad porno but without the fun part. The acing is horrible, the cinematography is done by amateurs and is very bad, the whole movie sucks.

It's clear that all the 10 rating comes from friends and families of the movie maker.

Do yourself a favor, don't watch this movie.
hulja19961 November 2019
As a fan of horror movies, this movie is by far one of the worst movies I have seen.

If there is something horrifying about this movie, it is the acting. The acting was horrible and not convincing as well as over the top. The plot was nothing note-worthy. No visual effects whatsover. To be honest, I think most of the budget went to renting the houses.

If you want to watch something, please find yourself something else. Don't make the same mistake I did by watching this movie. However, if you want to laugh at how ridiculous this movie is, then go right ahead.

Actually not as bad as it could have been...
paul_haakonsen3 August 2019
I hadn't even heard about the 2018 "The Curse of Lilith Ratchet" horror movie from director and writer Eddie Lengyel prior to stumbling upon it in mid-2019. Seeing the movie's cover and it being a horror movie was more than sufficient enough to make me sit down and watch the movie.

Initially, I must admit that I had expected I was going to be in for a suckfest of unfathomable magnitude. But to my surprise, then "The Curse of Lilith Ratchet" actually turned out to be surprisingly nice, taking into consideration the concept and the production of the movie.

While "The Curse of Lilith Ratchet" wasn't a particularly scary movie. Actually, it was lacking things that were scary to a seasoned horror veteran such as myself, then director and writer Eddie Lengyel actually managed to come up with a movie that was enjoyable and watchable enough, despite being generic and following a strict 'how-to-make-a-horror-movie' blueprint.

The acting in the movie was adequate, although there weren't really any outstanding or memorable performances to be experiences throughout the course of the movie.

The Lilith Ratchet character was interesting enough, albeit it was quite generic for a pseudo-ghost movie such as this. Don't go and expect something that will revolutionize the horror genre.

All in all, if you enjoy horror movies, then "The Curse of Lilith Ratchet" actually makes for an adequate movie, while it is somewhat generic. I was entertained with what I saw on the screen. But this is hardly a movie that you will watch more than once.

Hot potato shrunken head
BandSAboutMovies19 March 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Alice and her best friend Lauren have inadvertently set a hellish curse in motion. I mean, this is the kind of thing that usually happens after you find a mysterious shrunken head, right? Instead of leaving well enough alone -- and throwing away that head -- they decide to meet up with Hunter Perry, the host of a paranormal podcast called Beyond the Veil.

Hunter does some research and learns that the shrunken head is legit. He wants to get more hits for his podcast -- I feel your pain, dude -- and they do a live podcast where the real story of the shrunken head is revealed to his audience. However, doing so releases the demonic spirit of Lilith Ratchet.

When you chant Lilith's name and play her game -- which involves throwing around that severed head ala hot potato -- the ancient woman comes and kills you. It turns out that back around the Civil War, her husband chose another woman, so she killed both of them and severed that woman's head. Now, she lives eternally and always ready to claim new victims.

If you liked Mother Krampus 2: Slay Ride, the last film from director Eddie Lengyel, chances are good that you'll enjoy this as well. Amazingly, this is the ninth American Poltergeist movie since 2015, although most of the other films aren't connected. You don't need to see any of them before this.

The definition of a bad movie
tzaghloul3 August 2019
Nothing is worth to be said about this movie, except they managed to collect every bad criteria in one movie, the acting is horrible, the costumes is like school plays and the soundtracks are really irrelevant. PLEASE DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME WATCH IT

Uncommonly bad acting
konandevries1 May 2022
I watch a lot of B-movies (well, this one is more of a C-movie, but you get the idea) in the horror genre (I have a thing for 'em), so I hardly expect top notch acting when I check out a title like this one.

But really - the acting is so bad it's almost impossible to watch this. And, to be clear, it's never "so bad it's funny" either - it's just extremely flat and amateurish.

Garbage
Kibfur7 November 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I usually enjoy cheesy films, but this is the worst trash I've ever watched. The acting is subpar and completely lacking. The filming was even worse if that's possible. The audio is garbage. The soundtrack made me vomit. If someone spent 15k on this then it was the biggest waste of money spent. The evil character is basically a complete rip off from insidious but done in a elementary school fashion. Nothing scary or horror about this flaky vomit they have the nerve to call a " Movie" . Do yourself a favor and go watch an actual movie. The only good reviews have to be by the cast! I'm taking this waste of money outside to burn it. I want my money back for the time spent destroying it. I feel like a garbage man at this point.

A horror classic
d_cancelliere12 February 2019
Eddie's best work yet, seems like this films keep getting better and better. Love his style of directing. The cinematography is spot on in this film. Crissy Kolarik delivers a remarkable performance as Ratchet. Hoping there is a sequel to this film.

Stick with it!
parry_na12 June 2021
This doesn't start in a promising fashion. A pre-credits sequence that is so mild, it fails to deliver much tension or atmosphere (our villainess looks much better later on in the film). As things progress, we become acquainted with a shrunken head, and the game that comes with it. You wouldn't, would you? Play the game, I mean.

So when the main characters play this game, you know things aren't going to end well. You also know that this bunch aren't the smartest gang you'll ever meet - but you get into it. For an independent film, the budget is very well utilised, the sound and direction (by Eddie Lengyel, who also wrote) are polished. The acting is uneven (some of lack of expression is restricted by the surgically enhanced appearance of some performers) - a good example being a séance that shifts effortlessly from moments that are effective to others that are pretty poorly performed. You win some, you lose some. There is, however, a compelling and troubling inevitability regarding the characters' fates. Lilith herself looks progressively effective, although her kills are fairly mild. There's also a nice twist at the end. My score is 7 out of 10.

Beyond the Veil
nogodnomasters2 August 2019
Warning: Spoilers
The film opens with a Lilith Ratchet murder as a teaser. Two girls steal a box with her shrunken head inside and sell it to Hunter Perry (Rob Jaeger ) who has bad hair and a Video Blog about the paranormal, although at the end of the film he was called "the guy on the radio." There is a backstory of a murder and a curse. It goes into a poem and a game. It combines, Mary with Lizzie Borden and "hot potato." They play the game at the fourth annual Fright Fest. It is followed by the expected killings.

The film starts out on the light side but doesn't maintain what first appears as a spoof. The acting was less than "Dee Wallace" quality. Why does a demon who pops in anywhere have to chase people on foot? Predictable script, but not horrible. Ashley Rogers, the hottest chick in the film, does not appear in the IMDB credits. Normally when that happens, it is requested by the actress who doesn't want to be associated with the production. Not a good sign.

Guide: One MF word I recall near the end. No sex or nudity. Brianna Burke tub tease.

Watchable if ultimately underwhelming effort
kannibalcorpsegrinder13 September 2019
After being stolen from a spiritualists' supply shop, a group of friends decides to play a game with a supposedly cursed shrunken head said to belong to a murderous female entity and when they start dying one-by-one realize they've become the target of the malicious entity.

Overall, this one was an incredibly troubling effort. Among the many problems featured here is the film's overbearing low-budget that is quite obvious throughout here. The opening attack scene on the last surviving members of a previous run-in with the figure details many of these issues, ranging from being filmed in so much lighting that it ruins the suspense of its appearance to seeing the main protagonist which is a common occurrence here. There's plenty of general filmmaking tactics where everything looks cramped and closed-in, or are rushed through to the point of being obvious about the quality and budget. Likewise, with the excess padding here due to so many unnecessary scenes which don't need to be there, the pacing is generally off because of the budget and pushes the kills pretty late in the film. However, that exposes another major issue in the \sloppily edited and underwhelming attack scenes. These are a major factor within here, as it starts immediately with a comically inept opening sequence that's laughably low-budget but also ends up giving up the appearance of the main protagonist without any kind of build-up to capitalize on its creepy appearance before ending on a victim trying to escape detection behind a glass shower door. The main factor here, keeping the main villain hidden until very late in the film, also ruins the drunk-driving encounter and the attack on the assistant by giving away not only that it's following them but also getting to see the spirits' face clearly when keeping the face hidden longer would've added far more atmosphere to these scenes. Coupled with the lack of gore in the majority of the kills, these here manage to hold the film back for the most part. This one does have a few solid aspects featured here. That mainly revolves around the titular curse at play which is fairly unique and enjoyable. The urban legend at the center of the story, told in flashback with a narration of the legend, gives this an appropriately quaint feel by feeling like a genuine game made up from a historical figure in the area taking the idea of the jilted woman and turning her into the terrifying demonic entity she's now known as. This is fine for providing some creepy moments here from the appearance of the somewhat creepy being that uses some fine work of her appearing at the various locations to claim her victims, especially the finale where it features several rather fun chases around the building to get its last victim ends this on a decent enough twist which is rather fun. While these aren't enough to overcome the flaws, they do manage to hold it up somewhat.

Rated Unrated/R: Graphic Language and Graphic Violence.

My Review Of "American Poltergeist The Curse Of Lilith Ratchet"
ASouthernHorrorFan19 September 2019
The story may not be completely original but it is classic evil spirit, cursed object storytelling, and a strong, straightforward foundation always the story telling immediate plausibility. It also anchor the acceptance of paranormal events where concepts may play out creatively. In "American Poltergeist: The Curse Of Lilith Ratchet" is old-world folk magic, a cursed object and a really bad idea.

The film starts out how I like, dropping us right in the middle of horrific events unfolding as the monster, in this case a vengeful ghost, is on a killing spree. It makes it easier to tolerate the coming exposition and character grounding drama and heavy dialog to come. And this film is no exception. There is a lot of melodrama, banter and mundane "living life" moments in APTCOLR. Some could have been cut or shortened in post because it actually drags the movie's pace after such a gut-punch beginning.

That being said I liked the quality of the performances by this indie cast. Most are recognizable in indie film circles. I have seen most of the horror and sci-fi stuff from this midwestern community, or is it Mid-Atlantic? Anyway I recognize the growth and skill development from this cast, and it shows in this movie. There are moments when dialog and suspense suffers due to scenes that don't seem to move as smoothly as others though.

When the horror finally gets back in play and the paranormal activity starts, APTCOLR picks up. The creature design for Lilith Ratchet is some of the coolest ghost work I've seen. Kind of like one of the gentleman (Hush so. Buffy) in drag. Love the character and horror sustainability for future development. The tricks imployed to create the horror is the standard paranormal effects, but they work.

Overall I found a lot that I liked with "American Poltergeist: The Curse Of Lilith Ratchet". The story premise is classic ghost story fodder, with a memorable character. The cinematography is great and keeps a creepy atmosphere going through the movie. I did find the over stretched dramatic stuff boring at times. Still this is a cool indie paranormal horror with some entertaining stuff happening.

The creepy horror makes up
alainsomerlinck4 August 2019
The acting isn't great, neither are the ways this movie was made but the horror and creepy scary factor was seriously high. Re-make with a bigger budget and this movie must be a massive success.
