Watching ice melting is better than this snooze-fest.

I couldn´t find any horror moments. The entire movie is a drama with long silent scenes. For an instant you might think that is a silent film, except when they whisper, because you can barely understand what they say. I hardly can keep my eyes open. This film is grey, flat, boring, pointless, even watching ice melting is better.

My Review Of "Is That You?/Eres Tu Papa?"
ASouthernHorrorFan13 August 2019
That synopsis is slightly more innocent than the truth of the story's subject matter. Same with Lili the main character. Riverón places her in a much darker, ambiguous position. The film is slow, depressive and methodical with damaged characters going through some disturbing situations.

The cast give excellent performances bringing this flawed and scarred family to life. They all seem to be zombie walking through their existence. It creates a haunting atmosphere that is relentless in the way it grips you. The slow pace can at moments become annoying and there are moments when it could have benefited from a little speed. Still I get what the director was going for.

Most of the film's horror is subjective, really playing on the psychological nature of the story's material. The overall nature of these characters relationships create an atmosphere of tension and danger. The soundtrack adds an unnerving edge. This isn't a shock horror or heavy thriller with jump scares. Everything is minimal, except the cruelty on display. Plus asthetically, the look and feel of the film pulls heavy from traditional horror, both in setting and character.

Overall "Is That You?" is a nice psychological horror for indie fans looking into dark character study films that use atmosphere to frame people's darker sides. If you go in thinking this is a gory, thriller then you will be disappointed. This film goes deeper than that, and in a slow, disturbing way. I say check it out.

A brooding, nuanced film which realistically depicts sorrow, isolation, and the employment of black magick as a source of real power in the face of desperation and oppression
A relentless and disturbing psychological horror involving spellwork and black magic (which is mostly implied and understated, rendering a chilling effect, once the viewer recognizes what's occurring), along with themes of family, isolation, fanaticism, trauma, and mental illness.

The plot had similarities with the excellent Irish folk horror, Wakewood.

It's a chilling film.

It will appeal to those who *appreciate* subtlety and nuance over explicit gore and jump scares, as it depends upon the viewer possessing a sophistication and an appreciation of an atmospheric and oppressive supernatural dread that is always present from the first scene.

Not what I expected.

The ending to this film was probably one of the best endings I have watched in a very long time when it comes to a cinematic process. This film was definitely new, and in my opinion, considered groundbreaking based off of the angle. This is one of those films that get you from the start because the topic is so intriguing. The one thing I could tell you was this this documentary is definitely a first of its kind, something I've never seen, and they got my attention from the opening. This is a film that I would recommend to many people. This film in specific I placed the rating higher than what it should've been because the originality behind the storyline is by far top notch.

One of the cool things about independent film, making in present and day is you get the chance to see some of the New creativity being displayed on the screen. This film makes a decent attempt at that. I'm biased and on horror films so I'm automatically give it two thumbs up the originality could've been a little bit better but overall. I think this film is definitely worth a watch especially if you want to quenched your thirst for the horror/paranormal genre. Kudos to the cast and crew, job well done and I would definitely recommend this film to the people who are junkies and non biased in this genre.
