The Backbone of the DCEU
Harun_Karali21 December 2018
Season one Review:

Every episode is better than the previous, Titans has gradually built a foundation on which the DC Extended Universe can stand on, a Universe that has been struggling to find it's footing ever since it launched with Man of Steel back in 2013 and though that is a guilty pleasure of mine. I do agree that DC has been having trouble in there cinematic universe. However Titans is something I cannot praise enough, and this make's me sure that DC will find it's footing(at least in the dcuniverse), with shows like Metropolis coming out(did you see that teaser!?) Titans is a series that's brutal and doesn't pull any punches and it's exactly the series that DC needed and deserved. I cannot wait to see what the second season will have to offer(fingers crossed for Nightwing)

Season Finale Review:

Who would have predicted this series would be this good? Can you remeber the marketing for this show, I'm still trying to forget. But man, this is proof of the potential stories that the DC Extended Universe can provide. Masterful storytelling. Yes, it was obviously a dream state of sorts but even I was sucked into it and the ripples that Trigon created added incentive to the story line and kept the plot moving. Building the climax till even Grayson turned his back to the justice system. Showing how powerful Trigon is and how important it is to have a villian with depth. That being said, I feel like Seamus Dever is miscast here, not that he's a bad actor, he just deosn't look or even feel the part. Might be knitpicking but I did feel like it needed to be said.

Skeptical.
sluttypump21 December 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Although it was very hyped, I feel like it did not live up to it. It was expected to be 2 hours and include more than a vision, it's pretty weird since now we'll have to wait a damn year to see the cliffhanger. It seems as if you saw that people liked the Episode 8 cliffhanger, and you decided to do that for everything, which is not good.

For the actual episode, it was good. The story was written well and paced trough great, it was impressive to see how much you fit in the last 10 minutes of the episode. The after credits scene was great, seeing Superboy and Krypto was awesome.

I look forward to seeing season 2, and excited for Doom Patrol.

Was that it?
buzurg00722 December 2018
Warning: Spoilers
"Was that it?" - This is the question that no season finale should ever leave a viewer with, yet this one did. On its own, it is a good episode that develops Grayson's character to a great extent, but as an end to a season? No, just no. This felt like it was more of a mid-season finale.

You see, seasons of TV shows in many ways should be developed as movies or books. Meaning they should have a clear beginning, middle, and the end, while also leaving something for the next season. You don't end your season in an episode that feels random. The fact that there were behind the scenes shots of Starfire with an actual costume, the producers teased us with Grayson becoming the Nightwing by the end of a season, and that it was originally intended to be 13, then cut to 12 and for some reason 11 episodes now, it's clear that this was never intended to be the end of a season and some content was left out. What happened? Maybe they wanted to work more on those episodes? Was there some budget cut?

Anyway, basically Titans never really came together this season, over 90% of story threads weren't resolved, and it did not feel like an epic finale that Titans deserve. This is sad, because episode is really great, if it wasn't a season finale, I would've easily rated it higher because it is a really intense and well done. Unfortunately, it is a finale, and it did leave mixed feelings after it ended. A fantastic season of television, a great episode, but a really strange choice for an end to such a great season. I am excited for a season 2, and I really hope they don't end that one the same way.

Embrace the dark tone, it's remarkable
Holt34422 December 2018
This episode was far from what I expected, it felt weird but after watching the whole episode I have to say it's one of the show's best episodes as the dark tone flows perfectly with the story, the dream like sequence. I won't spoil anything except what we know, Grayson goes back to Gotham City and the locations and everything about it felt so accurate to the crime infested Gotham I know and love, the easter eggs were a nice addition for the fan boy I am.

For a season finale this episode worked perfectly, leaving us with being hyped for season 2. Next season looks to be amazing, I can't wait.

Holy Cow That was Freakin Awesome!

Warning: Spoilers
What an episode! Dark, menacing and Intense! This one was focused on Robin and finally we get to see Batman, well sort of. As intimidating as the guy who plays robin is,the introduction of Batman shows someone Even More badass than robin..Just OMG he is about as dangerous as Anyone yet introduced! A virtual killing machine with intelligence as well .. And yeah its all taking place in Dicks mind but what a dramatic fall into the Darkside it shows...Just loving this series and as someone already commented, it is deepening and improving upon itself with each episode...THIS is what a superhero show should aspire to be...This is the benchmark so far amongst TV series...The dude in the end credits looks like a bodybuilder...Thats going to be some Super "boy" !! dude is a monster! I'D give this one 11 stars if I could ,its That good..

Incredible as an episode. Lack lustre as a finale
splosh37 January 2019
Warning: Spoilers
In terms of showing off a DC universe, this episode felt like it was could have been made by Nolan. The references made me smile even though a lot of them were just teases. The acting was great and the episode was shot and editted well. However in terms of a finale for the show I just watched through and enjoyed, I was expecting more. The fact that technically there was only a minute or two of actual "finale" in the episode annoyed me a lot. TLDR Great as a stand alone piece, not so great as finale to the show Also watch till the credits end for a fun teaser

I'm really confused why this episode (a filler) was the season 1 finallé
Graemesmith7028 January 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I really like Titans. The only prior episode I didn't like was the filler one about Hank and Dawn. I only watched it about half way to two thirds. So if there was clever finish to it I apologize I didn't see it. It found it quite boring and it didn't have any relation to the fairly interesting story Titans was building. But it seems a fairly popular episode, especially among the Comic book readers, introducing the two new characters, so I'll give it its due.

This episode, I miscounted and thought was the penultimate episode. I was still surprised they would use the second last episode just have a bit of back story filler, giving some depth to Robins falling out with Batman. It turns out I was wrong. It was the finalé to season one. The season finalé was a disappointing back story filler. Seriously?

Great script weak finale
gorkem-bir14 January 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I'm disappointed mostly because characters haven't developed close to their potentials. I was expecting Rachel to finally unify with her inner force against her father. After all, it was about time that both her and the rest of the team find peace within themselves and fight with Rachel's father in unison. Though we only found out that Dick has given up to his dark side. That could have been told in 5 minutes but the crew apparently wanted to save Trigon for the next season.

This episode is a great piece of art from start to end, Still, I would prefer a less poetic finale where some action happened in practical terms.

Exceptional TV series finale
giannisboublis22 December 2018
Warning: Spoilers
This was one of my favorite episodes of Titans. I really wanted to dig deep into Dick's psychology and that's what happened with this episode.

A great episode but, with the flaw that we must wait for 10 months to see what happens to Dick and the team after Hawk and Dawn recruit Jason Todd.

I think that's a bad cliffhanger for a great and really strong premiere episode for season 2 and I CANNOT wait to see it.

Had to be a redirect...
songod-950039 January 2019
Warning: Spoilers
First let me say that I had no idea this was on TV shows that the show did not get the push it should have. Gladly it is getting a season two; but since I follow most of the main entertainment sites and never once read about this, well... is there a bias against down an gritty superhero shows?

"Supergirl", Flash", "Arrow", all DC creations that get press are like, well, cartoons compared to "Titans". Oh sure they "tackle" some tough issues and all face appropriate threats but none come close to the angst on display here.

I was lucky enough to find all 11 eps and binge through them. Tho it lost it's footing mid way, it did not totally lose it's core. This final season ep was a step in the right direction but also the wrong direction.

I wondered how DC would handle letting Batman go rouge and assumed someone else was copy-cating him. Never figured it would all be in Grayson's head thanks to Satan or whomever Rachel's dad is.

This has set us up for more "fantasy world" episodes where nothing actually happens for real. Big showdowns will be BS. Big romance (like Rachel and Gar) will be in the head of one or the other. On and on we could be BS'd by the writers since from the user reviews 99% of you here loved the episode.

Me? Sure some great moments but knowing pretty much from the beginning it was manipulated spoiled it. The moment I saw Dick in a swimming pool in sunny CA I knew it was the Big Bad messing with him.

That you all ate it up sets the stage for more nonsense.

Filler episode as a season finale
MajesticKirsky2 March 2019
Most reviews here are bought and paid for. This is a great show but this was one of the worst season finales I've ever seen. As an episode on its own it's great but not as a season finale. I played games on my phone while watching this episode to keep me from being bored.. that says enough.

THIS is what a superhero show should be!
madlogic200023 December 2018
This show is everything great about the superhero genre. It's also a prime example of why you should give things a chance before bashing them. I'm a hardcore comics geek and I, regrettably, chimed in with the haters when the first few set/character pics hit the net. I'll tell you this: I've never been this wrong about anything before. Titans absolutely destroys Smallville/Arrow/Flash/Supergirl/Legends. If you haven't watched Titans yet and you're a gigantic fanboy like me, you're only depriving yourself by not giving it a watch. This finale was the best, most well-written, best directed, best edited, and best acted episode of superhero television I have EVER seen. An absolute no-brainer of a 10/10 rating. BRING ON SEASON TWO!

Nice Ending
Sam_Morningstar22 December 2018
'Dick Grayson' is the finale of Titans Season 1. The acting was really well done especially Brenton Thwaites's. The videography was really good. The directing was amazingly done. There was some references that i truly enjoyed. Even though some scenes felt choppy at times, It was still pleasurable to watch. The story was nicely done and unfolded really well. It had a twist which was quite predictable actually . But the After Credit Scene was something to look forward to in the next season. The cliffhanger was something to desire for and felt weak. I truly expected more from the finale.

Holy $hit
theviper-4324717 April 2019
That epic batman character, they're respecting the idea that the batman played by Christian Bale is irreplaceable, so they kept him almost offscreen, so professional. The rest was so good, the acting is better than ever, the depth was exceptional and this is the ultimate episode of 'Titans'

Season One Review
southdavid12 June 2019
I approached "Titans" with a bit of trepidation, I was concerned that television superhero fatigue might settle in. However, by the end of the run I was pleasantly surprised by a series I thoroughly enjoyed.

Dick Grayson ( Brenton Thwaites ) has left Robin (and Batman) behind and is working as a Detective, when he meets Rachel (Teagan Croft) a young, recently orphaned girl, whose dark powers may stem from her mysterious past. When the pair are forced to go on the run, they meet Kori (Anna Diop) a woman whose memory has been lost and can generate fire from her hands and Gar (Ryan Potter) who has his own secret powers as the result of a mad scientist. Together they form a team to defend Rachel from forces looking to harness her power.

"Titans" wisely differentiates itself by being tonally quite different to the rest of the shows, particularly the other Berlanti-verse ones. It's a lot more violent, and more willing to show the effects of that violence, there's more swearing and sex scenes too. It also tells one (... well ... half...) a contained story across the 11 episode run, rather than the networks 22 episode "Villain of the week" style season. Occasion episodes take the focus away from the team that pad out the universe a bit, explaining who some of the other characters are and there is a backdoor pilot for "Doom Patrol" that forms one episode. It's a show that rewards a wider knowledge of the Batman/DC universe but I think it would work well enough on its own standing, provided you're prepared to accept a superhero/meta-human concept in general.

There are a few little flaws, occasionally the effects aren't perfect. Though I ended up warming to all the characters by the end, the introductions sometimes don't make them seem as appealing as they might do and occasionally, you're going to be ahead of the plot and have to wait for it to catch up with you - but in general, these were minor quibbles in a season that I enjoyed enormously (titanic-ly, if you will). Looking forward to more.

Predictable and fun finale
asb_deutsch27 December 2018
Warning: Spoilers
This finale may be dark and even please Marvel fans, so maybe they can also embrace the dark tone. But at the same time, I feel like it did not live up to the media-hyped "Who is Batman". The fun part was Batman killing the Joker. This was once portrayed in the animated feature "The Dark Knight Returns (Part 2)"

Seamus Dever (Trigon) as Captain was the downfall of this episode. The moment he reveals his character as a police captain, it was predictable that this was some sort of dream/hallucination. Imagine Dick giving away the secrets of Batman, nice to have a ...that's only possible virtually! Day dreaming or futuristic fantasy?

The after credits scene was a great asset to a follow-up season .This episode: 6.5/10. My overall Season 1: 82/10 = 8.2 What happened to episode 11? This episode left a lot of mixed feelings. See you Teen Titans next year!

So goes all bad TV, in the bin
gareth-7544224 May 2020
It seems all DC superhero shows will go the same way, straight into the garbage bin. When I initially heard the announcement of a DC Titans tv show, I cringed, but after the teaser trailer I figured I'd give it a go, the only downside I could see was the fact Geoff Johns was involved, in itself that should have been enough reason to steer clear of this show, instead I gave it a go & began watching, for the most part I enjoyed it, Hawk & Dove were interesting but ultimately disappointing, the use of "Beast Boy" was very disappointing, "Raven" was disastrously disappointing, "Starfire" was borderline woke garbage, the inclusion of Donna Troy "Wonder girl" was wasted, the character of "ex" Robin as a "psychopath" & then the use of the New "potty mouth" Robin as a complete idiot just added to the fact I should've gone with my initial reaction & avoided this show, the only thing that kept me watching was the plot, Trigon was the bad guy & I wanted to see how they would handle the character & the tease of "Superboy" & especially Krypto was enough to keep me watching. Now this is TV & there has to be careful consideration on how to portray these characters from comic book to TV show & ultimately its all going to come down to budget constaints, but surely budget doesn't determine imagination only it's implementation, because "imagination" sure seems to be the missing quality, this show is littered with mindless brutal fight scenes, again this shows little to no understanding of the superhero genre. So the1st season ended without conclusion so would be continued or concluded with season 2,now that's ok, gotta keep the fans hooked, but on conclusion of season 1 I found the only real good thing about the season was the "bad guys", Trigons minions, they were handled brilliantly while the shows "heroes" were awful, at the end of the season it was clear that those in charge of the DC franchise really don't care how their characters are portrayed, apart from Beast Boy & possibly Raven none of these characters are likeable, all of them are portrayed as psychopaths or lunatics which again leads to the conclusion that these characters are being used by people that either don't understand or care about the characters. So season 2 began & it soon became apparent the "Trigon" story was a total dud, an entire season wasted in the build up of a character the shows producers either couldn't do justice to or weren't prepared to find the budget for, so instead they give us the super assassin "Deathstroke" an absolute joke of a comic character, created in 1980 with an origin & storyline as ridiculous as any could be in the 80s & yes the inspiration for the original deadpool created by an equally tacky writer to johns, season 2 is an even bigger let down than season 1,the storyline is bland & boring with the telling of the Titans before the Titans, it would've made more sense if the backstory was of the "Teen Titans" with actual teens playing the characters but no instead it's backwards, the former team are called Titans played by adults, so this new team, of teenagers should be the Teen Titans, but no they're also called the Titans, just poor storytelling. Dissapointingly the tease of "superboy" from season 1 isn't touched on till episode 6 of season 2,the construction of season 2 is absolutely shambolic, a complete mess, character development beyond who's sleeping with who is non existent, everything about this show is poor from characters to plots/storyline, a far better choice would have been to do the Deathstoke storyline in season 1 building to the Trigon storyline in season 2 & to at least have the Titans battle Trigon with Raven delivering the final blow that defeats him, but instead its drab drama lingering on awful characters outlining how crappy they really are interspersed with awful choreography of stylised martial arts. There's a saying "if a Jobs worth doing, it's worth doing well" clearly "Titans" wasn't worth doing or this show would & should have been better

They know his weakness...
yossarian-6788724 September 2019
Warning: Spoilers
...and they use it against him.

Wow, what an ending. For most of the episode, I was like "WTF is going on?" but finally came to realize that they were breaking Robin, slowly but surely. Robin has seen a reflection of himself in Batman, witnessed his own fall from grace, seen his own worst fears become realized...but it doesn't matter, because there is no fear anymore. The fear is gone, the code is gone, there is nothing left but the darkness.
