Takes a Unique Perspective
sildarmillion6 October 2021
This is a high fantasy film set among a people with very long lifespans. At the beginning of the movie, the Elder tells Maquia that if she ever meets someone from the outside, she must never fall in love, otherwise she will learn true pain. (Due to the difference in lifespan)

It pretty much seems like a set up for a tale of forbidden romance. She will probably meet a man from the outside. Instead, after their home is attacked (and presumably destroyed), she escapes and finds a baby whose parents were killed. She takes the baby in and decides to raise it. The movie is about her struggle trying to be a mother. Eventually, as her adopted son out-ages her, it creates heartbreaking friction between them.

It was a different choice from the movie to focus on a parent-child relationship in this context. Sure, a star crossed romance would have been Romantically tragic, but shifting the focus to a story where you have a child and you know you are going to outlive the child by a lot ... that is its own kind of heartbreak that we don't often see be the heart of such stories.

A really gorgeous movie :)
RoysR12326 November 2018
We often have so many question in our life and reality isn't as easy as it seems , and that is what Mari okada tried to depict through gorgeous animation, soundtrack, although there are flaws in the plot, a lot of things which left untold. character developments were lacking, the pacing was bit off and second half can be bit surprising. Despite of that, it's still a thought provoking movie.

What is like to be a mother?what is love?what is like to live forever?is there any limit to human's greed? How far will you go for the love one?and what is it to die?

PLOT Literally, the whole movie is like a roller coaster ride, here our little immortal maquia is a loner, leaving her kingdom after invasion by the king men, how will she fetch with a new born baby she just found?being a mother to her, the consequences to be followed, how the relation between them will turn out as the mortal kid grows up. The pacing is bit inconsistent tho.

CHARACTERS There are lot of characters who can have their own back stories, with different motives, the reason for their action and when I said they lack development, it's mainly because of the so little time frame to fit in.

ANIMATION Top tier animation, no doubt about that. 10/10 for that, you can set wallpaper for each frame.

This film is really so underrated, hope for more people watches and appreciate it :)

Really beautiful and deserves a second watching
ibrahimz-322289 November 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Really beautiful i really enjoyed it and wants to watch it again. The redemption scene is awesome (about 96 min) when Maquia and Leilia are escaping on back of a white dragon. You only watch this scene and hear it's fantastic music to understand what i means. It is really great and makes you want to cry. The end is great too when Maquia is return for her son who is now old and is on his death bed. Overally a good Anime movie and deserves an Oscar nomination for best animation of the year. For sure it is very better than the Boss Baby.

Maquia: When the Promised Flower Blooms is one of the best anime films to release in the last few years. Almost everything about this film is perfect, from the well defined characters and the compelling plot to the beautiful animation and soundtrack. The only problems I had with this film are for things that didn't really matter like the minimal world building and a few unnecessary characters. Although one real problem I think the film had was the pacing especially in the first half. There are several time jumps in the film which skips over quite a bit of time and several moments that are hinted at but skipped over that I would have liked to have seen and I think would have made the ending more impactful. Because of this I think this story would have also worked really well as a 8-12 episode series. Despite these problems, the plot and characters were more than enough to keep me invested. I highly recommend you take any opportunity you have to check out this film.

SO UNDERRATED
rxdiantfaith4 July 2019
I ended up finding this on a random anime website and thought the art style was pretty so I decided to look it up. I barely read anything about the movie though since I didn't want spoilers, so I went in pretty much blind tonight watching this. Because I don't want to spoil the movie for anyone else looking to watch this, I won't go into too much detail. I just felt the need to review this as soon as I finished watching because I was in tears the entire time!! This movie has such a bittersweet ending, but at the same time closes the story off in such a perfect way (again, don't want to spoil, so I won't say why/how). Please just watch this for yourself! Everything's amazing about this: the plot, the pacing, the artstyle, the music, the character development. I wish this was hyped up just as much as Your Name or A Silent Voice because if I hadn't found this movie on that website, I would've never had the chance to watch this. Again, please watch this if you have the chance. You won't regret it!!!! I'm editing this because I just found out this was Mari Okada's directorial debut??? BLESS THIS WOMAN.

Great Debut anime movie
lachlan-344118 June 2018
I saw this movie during its limited theatre release in Australia. Maquia: When the Promised Flower Blooms is the directorial debut by Mari Okada. She also wrote the film. The writing, voice acting and animation is great. The main characters Maquia and Erial are realistic and convey the relationships between Children and their parents. The film also explores themes of motherhood. The film however is dragged down by some of the side characters and several flashback scenes which I thought were unnecessary. Overall I thought this was a great movie and it was only held back by some minor flaws.

Beautiful Meanings... Behind a Piece of "Artwork?"
kvang1452 November 2018
A masterful creation of what is a mother's love. This movie carries action and drama from the viewpoints of struggling people. Time flies by quickly in the plot, but the ends justifies everything, so on that note, yes, it has a complete ending that fullfills satisfaction. Definitely a good classic or child-memory lane movie to watch. Good artwork and music, with only one bad CGI (within anime?) scene.

Now to the negatives, which should not be a deterrent to watching, but understand why it's not the best: 1. Theme of the movie is motherhood, but what you ended up with is teen pregnancy... yeah. What some people strongly feel is not empathy but pity. 2. A lot of character brush-offs. Each character development is very limited, scenes are spread to multiple characters, meaning there is no main character focus on. 3. Lots of unknown background. The story has a strong history, which is the action and adventure side, but what the movie focused on is the side-story of Maquila. 4. Action and drama not a good mix. Action fans want a little drama, but drama fans won't appreciate action... wierd huh?

Final note: 7/10 - it's like a Shakespeare's play/book. You "can" or "have to" emphasize on each and every action in order to enjoy the work... like a painted art. If you watch it, you didn't waste your time. If you didn't watch it, you're not missing out on anything.

Mind blowing story!!!
insatiableaskeri26 June 2021
This should be definitely a must-watch for everyone! As a matter of fact, this particular story of a girl who actually dared to raise another child perfectly demonstrates how sincere and bold single mothers could be! Undoubtedly, it was flawlessly narrated, incredibly expressed and excellently depicted!! Highly recommended! 10/10! What's more, its storyline and plot were unbelievably enthralling that a viewer could be submerged in the whole atmosphere of fighting, love and compassion between heroes! I was petrified and speechless! Hats off!

Being A Mother
Littleman952 February 2021
Plot: a very beautiful story. It has a lot of deep messages and scenes. And there is also that magic that only Japanese can manage this well... Probably it would makes you cry (like I did).

Animation: perfect, smooth.

Drawings: particular, they have their fingerprints and it is a very good one.

Soundtrack: another very good thing. It is very enjoyable and pleasing.

Conclusions: an amazing, deep work that I can surely recommend to everyone. Especially for moms or who have doubts about being one.

An Enchanting Tale of Love, Loss, and Timeless Beauty
Mysterygeneration11 January 2024
Emotional storytelling is Mari Okada's specialty, and this film is no exception. The ensemble is filled with the tale, setting, characters, and subplots, which gives the audience a sense of living and learning alongside the characters. With a blend of strong action, poignant moments, and ordinary life arranged in a unique narrative style, the tale is well-rounded. The relationship between a mother and her child is the central theme, a topic that is rarely explored in depth. A novel and well-rounded picture, it tackles this subject matter from a number of perspectives and depths.

Renowned character designer Akihiko Yoshida from Final Fantasy and Granblue Fantasy has produced a wide variety of characters with different origins. His creative, varied, and fashionable clothing designs are clear examples of his influence. The chara's round faces and basic shape make them both adorable and disturbing. Renowned animators at PA Works have produced amazing backdrops, offering a vibrant universe to explore. Overall, the CGI is well-executed and integrated, with a few unusual sequences striking out without substantially detracting from the overall visual experience. The CGI is striking and well-done overall.

You can clearly recognize Kenji Kawai as a composer from this piece thanks to the familiar sound and instruments employed. However, the soundtrack is incredibly creative and features recurring motifs that significantly influence the mood and narrative of the film. Very nicely used and paced as well.

Be warned-it is a tearjerker, and by the end of both instances, the entire room was in tears. In case it isn't obvious enough already, this is an adult-oriented film with some themes and elements that are very dark and mature. It is not a family film.

Dare to be sentimental
largu8 January 2019
I had the pleasure to see a preview of Maquia without any previous knowledge of it. This is something that I recommend. That being said, Maquia start off quite dense with different warring factions and odd bits of vocabulary. No worries though, because even though every detail is not fully explained the word building and slow pacing eases you into the story. And it IS quite detailed, both story vise and visually. The protagonist Maquia from the title, is born in village where the inhabitants record and keep history by weaving long tapestries. Her people are a legendary elf-like lot who can live for hundreds of years and stop aging in their teens. Now, this trope could easily turn quite nasty, but Maquia steers tastefully far from most potential threats. In all, Maquia is a story about family and relations. It's poignant and serious in an oddly down-to-earth way regardless of it's fantasy setting. The animations are a high-budget marvel to see. My only gripe is that the movie kind of ends multiple times, and the last 30 minutes or so feels like one ending after another. Apart from that it also made me cry quite profusely. So, go see it.

Nice elaboration on impermanence in this visually beautiful film that could have done with better focus here and there
Horst_In_Translation18 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
"Sayonara no asa ni yakusoku no hana o kazarô" or "Maquia: When the Promised Flower Blooms" or just "Maquia" is a Japanese animated movie (i.e. An anime) from 2018, so this one will soon have its fifth anniversary, which means this is not a really new film anymore, but still relatively recent. The director is Mari Okada and this was her first full feature film after three short movies apparently. There seems to be a new upcoming project for her soon, but even if she has directed here and also has credits in the music department, her key profession will always be writing with over 60 credits already. Huge amount given the age. No shocker that she was also in charge of the screenplay here. I see that Christian La Monte had the task to come up with the English script adaptation and he is the one who was to some extent in charge of the pretty successful "Ma vie de courgette" two years before this movie we have here. But today we will talk about this anime by Okada. I cannot really go a lot into detail about the voice actors, simply because I do not know them. The ones from the original version. I myself watched a German dub and I think the voice actors there did a fairly convincing job, but this is not exactly news as dubbed movies are on a really high level now most of the time, no matter if we are talking about live action films or animated movies. This one here is no exception. The film is pretty long, comes close to the two-hour mark which may not be to everybody's liking, but for me it felt alright. I would not say it flew by, but also did not drag. There was really so much to it story-wise that the contents could also have made for a miniseries I suppose, so if we take that into account, then 115 minutes is still relatively short and not a lot at all. Just take a look at the first half hour and all we have there. We see the protagonist (or title character in the international version) and how she lives in a world of beauty with many others and they have the gift to stay young forever. Besides they have the gift of the most gorgeous blonde hair you have ever seen. Anyway, we get a little insight into their world, then we find out how these people are attacked by people who believe in weapons and technical progress and they decide to abduct these defenseless blonde women.

Next we see how the main character is lucky to get away through coincidence and also that a dragon plays a role in this circumstance. I do not even want to call it an escape. That's not what it was. Then we see how the main character finds a little baby and decides to take care of it despite another character saying it would be okay to unite the baby with its mother, in other words let it die. And finally we see the young woman (she was indeed very young) and the baby how they reach a little village that seems to be more on the countryside and they are welcomed by its people and treated like one of their own and they know where the girl is originally from. So yeah, all of this is really from the first 30 minutes, so much action (in the sense of plot developments) there. The baby already turns into a young boy then and we see he has a very close connection with his "mother". Her changing her hair color also fits in that it is a new chapter in her life. She does not deny her roots and origins, but with the red or brown then, she looks a lot more like the boy and you could mistake them for actual mother and child this way. That was her goal I suppose. Anyway, the idea of the initial attack and abduction is not forgotten either as we find out a bit more about that when the film progresses. Mostly we see how the main character meets other characters from her past again and there are emotional reunions at times. It is still defining for her, even if taking care of the boy is now her main priority and objective. The boy keeps growing and getting older and the woman does not, so soon they are pretty much the same age and some even mistake them for a couple when this is of course not the case. I would also not say that this is what the boy's jealousies were linked to overall. He was just not happy when there are men in his mother's life, just like a random boy also wouldn't be perhaps, no matter if these men are new love interests or old relatives or friends from the days of the mother's previous life you could call it.

The action takes place then away from the countryside too and in a town or city almost already that had very medieval looks. I liked it a lot, especially the houses and how the streets were looking there as well. Some really cool attention to detail we have here. The way this town looked also reminded me of one or two video games that had a similar design. I also remember the ashes/snow moment. So yeah, visually there is absolutely nothing wrong with this film and the music is also fairly decent. Sometimes it feels not even there and some say that this applies to the very best soundtracks. Maybe this is not one of those, but it is pretty convincing nonetheless. The character animation is also as good as you are used to it by now from modern anime films, so I am a bit surprised that this film did not exactly score a great deal of awards recognition at all. I mean it is not a masterpiece, but surely looks to me as if it went a lot more under the radar than it should have. Perhaps some were also a bit overwhelmed by the story. You can say that here and there the film tries to be too much for its own good. The main focus is of course most of the time on Maquia, but there is also here and there elaboration on another one of the girls, the one who was picked to stay at the castle and give birth to a child and that is what she does after her abduction and she is pretty much held as a prisoner at said castle. Her thoughts always lie with the people she lived with before this fateful abduction. She even threatens to kill her unborn child when the soldiers are about to chase down the title character to whom she still feels really close. When these two are united during this scene they reminded me a bit of Anna and Elsa from the Frozen universe, even if their characters were different, but the hair color connection made sense and also one being pretty much a prisoner, even if she did not decide to stay away from people herself here. On the contrary, when at the very end she has the chance to go, she takes it.

She also leaves her daughter behind. You could see there that because of the circumstances she also sees the young woman not really as someone she holds dear because there would have been no birth without the abduction and imprisonment, but she was also never allowed to see the daughter as a baby or infant, so she never really built an emotional connection with her. The other way around, it is not much different. When the daughter says something along the lines of how pretty her mother is, then it felt rather as if she was watching a celebrity, but not the person who brought her to this world. The idea how the mother then talks about memories vanishing over time in the end also shows that there will be no happy reunion, but they will probably forget about each other. Or never have a close connection. There is surely some irony to the situation how Maquia on the other hand is so close with a boy that she has not given birth to, but in the modern sense you could say it was an adoption, even without the legal papers. It was a matter of life and death anyway. Also look at Maquia'a constant worries that she may lack maternal instinct because he is not her biological kid. These were recurring, but to me never felt as effective as they were intended. The situation between her and her "son" getting more complicated was dramatic, but a new female character there, who became the son's love interest, traded some dramatic tension for harmony in this core relationship. Or the two simply did not see each other too often anymore as the mother had succeeded now in turning the young man into a respectable grown-up and he became a father himself then eventually. This was the closure for the mother-son relationship.

Another thing I must talk about here are the dragons: They seem to have immense strength and just look at how huge they are. Having four or five of them meant basically you are the one with all the power over the surrounding kingdoms because you could just violently attack them and they would have nothing to defend themselves with. Sounds harsh, but it is accurate. The dragons were basically what military strength is today. Like warships, tanks etc. They were no friends or living beings to the people ruling the kingdom. Just look at the metal they had to wear to look even more fear-inducing. Fittingly, the one dragon that is more at the center of the story than the others does not have to wear this when he in the end flies off with a female character. With her oh so bright blonde hair, this almost had an aura of Daenerys and I am saying this as somebody who was never big on Game of Thrones, even when everybody else loved it. But it did remind me of that. The dragons were of course also really nicely animated like everything else here, the nature landscapes, the houses, the human(?) characters etc. The reason why I do give this one only 3 stars out of 5 (or 6 out of 10) is also the story. I would say that while it had its good moments, there was enough in it for two movies or even more than that. I mentioned the possibility of a miniseries already early in my review. The way it turned out instead was good, but definitely a bit too packed at times. Comedy is almost not existent here, just briefly in-between like with the guy who falls off the ladder or (after the 30-minute mark) how mother and boy react to somebody else asking her if she just called him his son and how they are both a bit embarrassed. Or the belly rubbing was cute too. Overall, a decent watch that deserves to be seen if you like anime. I wonder if there will ever be a sequel.

Animation good - story is a mess
nodlimax3 January 2019
Warning: Spoilers
First part is spoilerfree: On the positive side I really have no complaints related to the animation. It's really well done. The art style they used is not one I like, but this is more related to taste and doesn't impact the rating for me.

What does impact the rating though are the story and characters. The story is extremely messy in how it is put together and edited. There are a lot and huge time jumps throughout the movie also causing sudden changes in character behavior and apparent motivation. The problem is also that the movie is not showing any real development of the characters. It often just tells us through exposition on why a character supposedly does something which in general is bad story telling.

Also due to the time jumps there are various characters that fall extremely short. There are various scenes that are supposedly "beautiful" and "positive" where I was just thinking "that character in this situation is a freaking ****".

In my opinion the story would have needed a 24 episode anime show to fully utilize its potential.

***Spoilers*** ahead now: My main problems with the story are related to various questions that popped up while I was watching the movie which where never really answered:

1. What's up with Medmel? We see two scenes with her. She wants to see her mother and is not allowed to while her mother Leilia apparently has only one purpose in life which is to also see her daughter. She only has that purpose because she thinks all of her people are dead.

Then when she sees her daughter for the first time in years (supposedly) there is no real interaction and she just jumps of the castle and flies away with Maquia leaving her daughter behind supposedly never seeing her again. As the daughter i would be "a little bit disappointed".

And why did one of the soldiers have such apparent hatred against Medmel? The movie neither showed or told what was going on there.

2. What's up with the dragons? There were a lot and they suddenly die due to some illness? There was no real explanation behind that whole part of the story.

3. Why is Ariel suddenly so invested in fighting for the kingdom? To defend his family? But the kingdom loses (at least it looks that way) and there are no repercussions for him or several other surviving soldiers. What is going on here?

4. How was that idea to get a new male heir with a long live supposed to help prolong the kingdom anyway if the main military advantage (the dragons) are dying? There was no explanation whatsoever.

5. How did Ariel get together with Mido? One scene he leaves Maquia to join the military and the next he says he's becoming a father and then we see him together with Mido. What the heck is going on here?

6. What's with the various Iorph people? At the start they supposedly capture most of the women. Where are they? Are they all enslaved? Are they dead? What happened to the elder? It sounded like she was dead but we never really saw or hear anything specific about her fate.

7. Some of the guys were trying to free Leilia (shown in a flashback) but supposedly killed but then they apparently survived? How and what was going on there?

8. What happened to the king? Was he killed by the enemy? Did his own soldiers kill him? Did he surrender? What about the prince that supposedly fathered Medmel? I think we saw him once during a parade on a dragon. What happened to him?

There are a lot more issues with the story, but these are some of the main questions that popped up.

I think everyone should watch it
maxcstyle27 May 2018
To preface, I rarely trust reviews that have 10/10, just because usually people who do them are biased towards genre, theme, actor, etc. in the way that they are fans of those and it automatically bumps up the score of a film for them to a few points above what it really deserves. It might be the case for me here too, although I must say that I am not a huge fun of anime in general. I like certain titles a lot, but I'm not really following the genre. So yesterday I felt like watching anime on a big screen, and in the city I currently reside at this anime was the only one out there. So I said to myself why not, the trailer seemed neat, and so I went. To say that I was astounded by it is not to give it a fare credit. I was expecting sort of typical 'goofiness' that we all see in anime pretty often, but there was none. It was a serious film, with a philosophical connotation, beautiful visuals, on lock dialogs. Like all the check boxes for a great anime were checked for me. In the end I was really close to shedding a few tears. To give you a frame of reference, the only time I did it watching a movie was thanks to Hachiko. Just go and watch it, there is a high chance you'll like it.

Mari Okada have already mastered the storytelling technique. Every words every name in this movie is so meaningful. I hope that the English version can translate at least 80% of the word's meaning.

Exceptional Animated Fantasy Drama
infoalwaysacritic19 June 2021
If anime as a genre brings to mind fanservice, childish boob-humour and a bizarre obsession with characters that have a single emotion they express every time they open their mouths, then leave it to this film to add some variety to the pallet.

While anime has examples of all styles and genres of film housed within its animated shelves, there aren't a lot of films that bring a serious tone, thoughtful plays on philosophy and stunning animation, while avoiding the cliche's of anime. This is one of them.

Beginning strong, the film immediately sets out gorgeous visuals with a high-key pallet and beautifully envisioned world. The attention to detail in architecture and environments will encourage the use of the pause button, while the complexity of background animation is at such a level that the sheer number of moving characters approaches that of a live action film. This level of work is rarely seen in animation and is worth applause on its own, not to mention the beautifully coordinated combat late in the film.

Characters are written to be fairly simple, but in complex circumstances. This dedication to simplicity, at times, struggles to progress the characters despite time moving fairly quickly at times. Ariel, in particular, is barely developed in spite of the story's scope containing his entire life. Other characters are deeply wounded by their circumstances and have decisions to make regarding the road they will follow afterward. At times these wounds are gut wrenching but sadly aren't utilized to their fullest extent in developing the characters involved.

If watching the english subtitled version, there are some things lost in translation, that could result in some confusion. The jumps in time are also not the easiest to follow, which doesn't help the pacing. In the end, however, they successfully blend a heart-felt story of love and maturity and family together with a fantastical setting with hints of deep lore and history that satisfies on a higher level than the vast majority of big-budget films being released in current days. The animation is spectacular, the story is thought-provoking and the world is entrancing.

But I have to cry seeing that she lives long and her son reached the end of his life speaking is just sad I cried when I saw this movie. I enjoy this movie even at the cop crying which is why I give this movie a 7.

Loved it
WeAreLive15 February 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Before you read my review I request you watch the movie because there maybe be heavy spoilers in my review and I don't want to get the blame for it.

His movie is about a young beautiful teenage girl called Maquia who comes from a land where her and all the people that live their can always look young and youth full. But a day came when there is an attack in their village and the young girl flees she then finds a young baby crying because his mother is killed so she takes him in at a young age and looks after him and this is how the story begins.

Story wise it is good and plot wise it could have had a few tweaks but nothing too much.

Voice acting wise it is good doesn't matter if you watch it dubbed or subbed you might just get the same experience. I watched it dubbed cause I am not a fan of the dub vs sub argument and I have problems keeping up with subtitles for a long period of time or stand to listen to japanese cause I find them irritating to listen. Dubbing wise it was good but there was a bit too much over reacting during dialogues but you might get that in either version. However, GKIDs did a solid job with the dub.

Animation and art style was good and it had very beautiful visuals to look at and you can tell the guys worked so hard on it.

Timing and pacing is good but it could have had a bit less on the actual time movie as I found it a little so pace to the point where they miss out certain things.

But overall despite a faults I have mentioned it is still the best anime movie I have watched this year so far.

A truly beautiful and wonderful film

I didn't know much about this film when I found it at Walmart and just bought it on impulse, and boy am I glad I did. This has to be one of the best films I've seen recently as well as one of the best anime films I've ever seen period.

Beautifully animated with a well crafted story that made a 24 year old man cry. I highly recommend watching it.

If I was gonna complain about something, the CGI can at times be a little spotty but that doesn't effect my enjoyment of the film.

Nice animation, truly horrible writing
Bones72930 November 2019
OMG I was like, "Please, when is this going to end already? Please end!" It's very sappy. Incredibly corny. Certain themes were repeated over and over and over, like motherhood and not crying. Flat characters. I didn't care about any of the characters. Characters getting SO worked up over nothing, as if the writer is just DESPERATE to get a reaction out of the audience. FORCING it upon us with no actual substance. Emotional manipulation without even succeeding! I'm actual a really emotional person but I felt nothing except wonder at how the writing could be so bad. But anyway... The animation was often very nice. Good use of sunlight, creative backdrops with details. That's the only reason I'm voting a 2 instead of a 1.

Masterpiece

If you watch a Hollywood movie trailer you've basically seen 90% of the plot and best actions scenes. Not so with Maquia. Japan is a different beast that always seems to surpass even high expectations. This anime is fresh, gorgeous and it hits hard. What I praise the most is the director's ability to create a big world, with apocaliptic events, surrounding a somewhat simple story of a mother trying to raise a child, and never lose focus, to a fault (some side characters could've done with a few extra scenes). But what a superb character Maquia is, scared but brave, powerless but strong, silly but wise, always honest, always kind. The ending is eye-watering, but honestly, 3 years after watching it, just remembering her makes my eyes water. Without doubt one of the most beautiful characters I've seen in any form of media.

A cry, a promise broken and mother's love

Warning: Spoilers
I think I can go on and on about this incredible anime forever. Not a perfect product that it has many flaws but at same time has many perfections too.

At the middle of the film I was so afraid that the writer would turn this mother-son love into a romantic one, and she indeed inserted many hints about Ariel's Oedipus complex, but I felt so grateful and relieved that nothing happened and my experience with the anime remained amazing till its very end.

Maquia crying at the end is especially my favourite and I have rewatched the anime many times just to rewatch this very scene. Because Maquia doesn't just sniffle and snort but the mother really cries out loud and gets down to her knees like any mother in the same situation of losing their precious child would. She doesn't hold her emotion back and I was so glad that the writer didn't make her hold back and thus I could have my emotional burst too. So happy to be able to share this feeling with Maquia and from the bottom of my heart I thank everyone behind this incredible movie for such a journey. Really am grateful.

Definitely a must-watch title for the anti-war and feminism categories. Tip my hat to every mother on earth, biological or not, for the massive love they have for their children. You are the undisputed best.

The best mother

The most beautiful, best mother. One of the most emotional anime. The bond between a mother and her child is wonderful. So much emotion, love is too much for me. My heart hurts.
