Same stuff

I think that The Good Witch is reaching the point where it is an acquired taste. This episode doesn't stray far from the Good Witch formula.

Their formula seems to be that some perceived disaster threatens the entire town centering around the Meriwicks. Martha always exaggerates it. Cassie is always contemplative, sometimes showing more concern, sometimes less. Grace or Cassie often provide some of the solution.

Except for Bailee Madison, and possibly Catherine Bell, the actors seemed to be stuck in narrow stereotypical roles. Martha overreacts, badly. Sam is hard to ruffle. Abigail is mischievous. Cassie usually has some breadth of character, although she leans toward mysterious yet calm. Grace seems the most normal, although she can be characterized as always eager to please.

I have seen Madison in child or youth roles from a young age, often in Hallmark movies. I look forward to seeing her continue to excel as hopefully she starts to get some of the romantic lead roles in Hallmark's future endeavors.

The Good Witch is Still The Good

When The Good Witch movie premiered I was hooked with the chemistry of Catherine Bell and Chris Potter but after he left to concentrate on the "Heartland" series. Catherine Bell and James Denton doesn't blend to me, something's missing. I suspect, as most of Hallmarks movies, the Canadian studio actors must be running low since I see many of them in other Hallmark movies. This is starting to make The Good Witch, Garage Sales & Murder She Baked (2 best writing on the network) plots more predicable. I wish they would return to their roots of real mystery and leave the bubble gum plots alone.

An interesting and fun story

I would rate this one higher than the consensus. Yes it is formulaic, but it has been that way from the very beginning. The part of the formula that draws me in, and I suspect most fans, is the heart that shows through so many episodes, and in this one as well.

The sub-plot of the newlywed who has always gone along with what her husband likes and wants. Is a repeat from an earlier episode. It works again here, especially when the husband describes when and why he first realized that he loved her.

Another sub-plot is a mysterious man who shows up, while a possible curse hangs over the town and the Merriwick women. Martha squeals and jumps each time this man pops up! Noam Jenkins plays the part very well, appearing ominous without really doing anything.

Martha's squeal and jump is purely formulaic, but Catherine Disher delivers on the formula so beautifully--especially this time when the male instigator is just a little creepy.
