Hit and Dumb
bkhdfw9 June 2020
Warning: Spoilers
It's an interesting documentary, but the description of the movie is misleading and makes it seem as if he died under suspicious circumstances, perhaps related to something from his mysterious past, which is what peaked my interest. The hit and run wasn't suspicious at all, just some distracted/sleepy/drunk driver who didn't bother to stop and confessed to it the next day. Didn't even really need to be part of the film, as other than unfortunately ending his life it had zero to actually do with his life. Had to deduct some stars for that.

Has to be a spoof??
garethphoenix6 April 2024
This has to be spoof. An incredible spoof and a well made one, of a story I wish was true (maybe some is, but I doubt it), but it just can't be real! If not just because it's the most incredible, heroic, wild, insane and at times perfect story I've ever heard, but that he was 4"9inches whilst all this happened. Although this is produced incredibly well I should add. 10/20% of the actors just about gave it away but the other 80/90% were just brilliant.

I've googled it and there is a lot of chat about the documentary which almost gives it some legitimacy but the more I searched I couldn't find a single legitimate source that green lit this.

Sadly all to real and well done

I had hard time watching this great movie as I knew Richard from the streets and I began to question so many thing that I was seeing in this film. From the start to the end the movie brings you in the life of a this "little man" that was mysterious but yet so interesting. I thought the Director was able to grasp the element of mystery and allure of the man that so many had questions for so many years. Worth the watch and even the sad ending even made me proud of the man and what he did for this country.

Moving, gritty and real life drama and mystery
elmamberoh22 February 2018
The story of a tiny man who somehow got in the army although he didn't make the height cut. Went to Vietnam and was a war hero. He was involved with the CIA, Revolutionaries, became homeless and that is only a small part of this complex and incredible man's story. A must see, you can't make this stuff up!

Well Done.
gaseconomics12 June 2019
From my perspective, the filming was well done. I'll be honest and say I didn't expect the quality of the documentary to be a good as it was. David did a great job on presenting the facts in a way that kept me interested in the whole story line. For me, what was interesting (which I thought he should have led with, the "hook") wasn't until 70% through the movie.

Great job David.

Well done film about war HERO -A MUST SEE

Warning: Spoilers
A film about larger than life Richard Flaherty, a true National Treasure.

This documentary really touched me. I broke down several times, especially when the vets spoke about how they felt betrayed by the country they risked their lives for.

The real tragedy is how a woman got away with vehicular manslaughter. She should be in jail. She knew exactly what she did and it was covered up...WHY? Why hasn't there been a PUBLIC OUTCRY?!?!? I was utterly shocked watching how she called her insurance company after she killed someone, yet never notified the police. She was charged with NOTHING NADA ZIP.

Strange how she murdered him the very night that David Yuzuk started a documentary about his life. Something is VERY wrong!

A must see touching and true story of a forgotten decorated hero from Vietnam. How many secrets did he take to the grave? We will never know.

From Highly decorated Vietnam Veteran to Homeless in Miami
arnold-7386826 April 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Richard Flaherty at 4"9" in height received a exemption (5"0" was minimum requirement for Military service). Served as a leader and later as a Green Beret. Forced out to reduction in force when Vietnam ended and resided homeless in later life. Intrigue of world travel, CIA, DEA and loves of his life. So much testimony from those that served with Richard and in civilian life as well. This documentary is like a action movie that comes to life except that it is real and not make in Hollywood.

Welcome Home

An amazing man and an amazing life. So sad that the DA let his life end without the justice it deserved.

I can tell you that these men deserve better than America has given to them. Small steps have been made to "make up" for the failures of the past but more and larger steps need to be taken.

A terrific documentary with many twists. A compelling mystery about a fascinating man.

Warning: Spoilers
Wonderfully weird true saga of "nobody" who dies on the streets of Miami. You say, oh, not another homeless vet story! It's much more complex than that because the subject is a complex and interesting man.

Richard Flaherty is the proverbial "riddle wrapped in mystery inside an enigma." At 4'9" and 100 lbs he became a Special Forces (aka Green Beret) officer and won a Silver Star. There was deep loss (losing the love of his life), criminal behavior, alcoholism, perhaps, no, surely, madness/mental illness, all combined with PTSD and anxiety. He spent 20+ years on the streets, homeless, somehow surviving on $376 a month.

The director, David Yuzuk, is a former police officer who met Richard on the streets in the course of his job. They bonded, became close, over 10+ years, and this first-time effort is very well done. A super professional documentary that delves deep into the life of a noble yet flawed man who accomplished a great deal despite his stature and demons. As a veteran I felt Mr. Yuzuk honored CPT Flaherty and his memory properly and brought dignity to a man who many would likely treat with contempt if they had encountered him on the streets.

Larger than life
Dennis_Young9 October 2022
RIP Richard Flaherty.. a highly decorated Vietnam Veteran.. a towering figure of a man that struggled throughout his life yet achieving goals that appeared to be insurmountable, Sadly, Veterans of the Vietnam war decorated or not we're not held in high esteem when they came back home and even to this day "they were never told welcome home" ... Officer David Yuzuk of the Aventura police department in Dade county Florida is a very compassionate human being, indeed, truly, without his input, ths story would more than likely not be available to the public as a brilliant documentary. Richard Flaherty was Larger in life at 4 foot nine..!! I only wish there was more footage of Richard himself.. that would've made this documentary 11 stars... we have to support human interest videos in order for more like these to be created..!!!

Great movie, about an even better man!
PutMeInCoach3874 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
A raw sorry told about the mysterious life of a true patriot! David goes above and beyond to learn everything he can about Richard and he tells his story in an amazing way. This movie highlights the trauma and battles which Veterans are facing everyday in our country. It is a must watch if you want to see the truth about life on the streets.

It was amazing to see the lengths at which David went to learn everything he could about Richard. It shows the true character that David has as both a police officer and a person. I am glad to see that his department supported his efforts.

Sadly, at the end of the film you can see just how many more of these true hero's and patriots we lost in the two years that David spent making this film. As a country we owe them a debt which can never be repaid. I truly hope that as a society we can provide more for our Veterans in the years to come.
