Warning: Spoilers
The Café de Paris regards it self as a safe place to be. While other places in London have shut during the Blitz. The Café de Paris has remained open and now welcomes those that would not had been able to step foot a year earlier.

Frederick is one such person. The welcome mat is out for him. He is a West Indian immigrant who came to Britain to study law and fell in love with the theatre circle

However The Café de Paris is not as safe as it thought it was. Frederick survives an attack as he was with someone else. However now he is determined to join up and go to battle.

I expected a black perspective in the Queers season. I just did not think that it would involve Frederick recounting his experiences in pre World War 2 Britain and then the immediate aftermath of the war.

There were a lot of interesting observations by Frederick in his dealings with both the working classes and the upper classes. The main difference being, the upper classes let you place your hands on the handle of the door. Then persuade you that you really do not want to go in.
