Rahul Satyendra "Sattu" Tripathi (Pankaj Tripathi) is a bandit and don who has just killed Bhinder (Sundeep Sharma). Akash Chauhan (Aditya Roy Kapur) is a ventriloquist. Akash is having sex with Shruti Choksi (Sanya Malhotra), who is slated to be married in 5 days. Someone has made their sex tape and uploaded to the internet. Akash goes to Inspector Sukumar Sinha (Ishtiyak Khan) to register an FIR and to take the video down. Sukumar won't register the FIR without Shruti. Shruti is marrying Shekhar (Aman Bhagat) the son of the incense Magnate of India. Akash meets Shruti and shows her the video, and she thinks Akash is trying to blackmail her and slaps him multiple times. Akash leaves and his brother takes him to meet Sattu, as he is the only one who can help.

Alok Kumar "Alu" Gupta (Rajkummar Rao) is a part time actor and runs a small Dhaba. He has a crush on Pinky Jain (Fatima Sana Shaikh), since their childhood. But Pinky used Alu and got married to Manohar Jain (Paritosh Tripathi) and has a kid. Alu still loves her. She suspects Manohar of having an affair. Manohar is indeed having sex with Sambhavi (Geetanjali Mishra). Manohar uses Bhinder as his alibi to deflect Pinky's suspicion.

Batukeshwar "Bittu" Tiwari (Abhishek Bachchan) used to work for Sattu. 6 years ago, he left Sattu to start his family. Sattu didn't like this and got him arrested on charges of attempted murder. Bittu went to jail for 6 years and has only now released. He finds that his wife Asha (Asha Negi) has married his best friend Bhanu (Bhanu Uday). Bhanu is abducted by Sattu (Bhanu had taken a loan of Rs 50 Lakhs, which has grown to Rs 90 Lakhs now), who asks Asha to send Bittu to meet him.

Mini (Inayat Verma) is a neglected kid as both parents are career-oriented professionals. Her parents have just thrown out her dog Chiku from the house for creating a mess. Rahul Awasthi (Rohit Suresh Saraf) is a young man from a small town who is bullied and physically assaulted by his manager at a retail store where Rahul works. Rahul is behind in rent payments and has been kicked out of the rental house. He was picked up by Sattu, after Sattu killed Bhinder (Rahul was sleeping right next to Bhinder's house) Sheeja Thomas (Pearle Maaney) is a Kerala nurse at a private hospital, doesn't know Hindi and loves the dazzle of malls in Mumbai.

All the folks reach Sattu's lair at the coast (built over the sea). Sattu assigns his IT guy to help Akash remove the video clip from the internet. Bittu meets Sattu who wants Bittu to join him back, else he would sell Bhanu's kidney. Sattu also reveals that he sent Bittu to jail. Bittu refuses to cooperate and walks away. Just then a freak kitchen explosion rocks the entire lair. Rahul is rescued by Sheeja. Bittu is arrested again. Bhanu escapes and so does Akash. Sattu is missing with Rahul and Seeja. Manoher is arrested as his car was found in front of Bhinder's house. Manoher admits to Pinky that he was having sex with Sambhavi that night and wants his lawyer to get her statement. Sambhavi refuses to admit anything and so Pinky goes to Alu for help. Meanwhile Sattu is in Seeja's ambulance with Rahul. The ambulance has an accident and Sattu is unconscious, Seeja and Rahul wants to escape with his suitcase of money, but Rahul saves Sattu from an oncoming train (the ambulance was on a railway track). But then Seeja throws Sattu off a railway bridge and she and Rahul escape with the money. Sheeja and Rahul split the money.

Bittu finds Mini on the streets looking for Chiku. Bittu befriends Mini and figures out that Mini staged her own kidnapping and has run from the house. Next day Bittu drops Mini at her house. Bhanu meets Bittu offers to walk away from Asha and Ruhi, if Bittu can pay off Sattu with the 90 Lakhs he owes them. Meanwhile Mini finds that her parents have called the police to look for her and she escapes back to Bittu. she tells Bittu how she staged her own kidnapping so that her parents never leave her alone again. Bittu's neighbor recognizes Mini as a missing child and calls the police. Bittu escapes with Mini. Meanwhile Alu out that Sambhavi's husband was pimping her out and demands 40 Lakhs for her statement to the police to save Manoher. Sheeja finds that Sattu has survived and is in her hospital. Sheeja escapes before Sattu can tell anything to his men. Sheeja goes to save Rahul, but Sattu's men are already there. Rahul manages to throw his money to Sheeja and she & Rahul escapes from Sattu's men.

Meanwhile Akash and Shruti team up to figure out which hotel had a hidden camera who filmed them "doing it" and they would have uploaded it to the internet. Meanwhile Pinky and Alu make a scheme to get Rs 7 Lakhs by dressing Pinky like a whore and scam 2 businessmen staying in a hotel with cash in a bag. The plan is for Pinky to enter their room and Alu to come in later dressed as police. But the plan backfires as a shootout ensues with Akash and Shruti in the next room, looking for the hidden camera. Pinky ends up shooting down the 2 men. Alu finally opens up to Pinky that she has always used him, and he will continue to help her as he can't say no to her.

Bittu calls Mini's dad for a ransom call and asks for Rs 90 Lakhs. Sattu meanwhile befriends Sheeja's boss Lata Kutty (Shalini Vatsa) and figures that a doctor is sexually harassing her. Sattu is enraged and beats up the doctor senseless. Alu brings his life savings and adds it to the 7 Lakhs and makes it Rs 18 Lakhs. He gives that money to Sambhavi and promises to deliver the rest after her statement to the police. Sambhavi takes the money and runs from the back door with her lover.

Rahul and Sheeja buy gifts with their money and visit his parents. They find Sattu's goons sitting there, waiting for them. They escape again, but this time come in front of Akash and Shruti's car and have an accident. They get in the car with Akash and Shruti and try to escape Sattu's goons. Sheeja and Rahul have a lucky escape when a truck hits the goons van. Sheeja and Rahul run away from Shruti/Akash, but both couples end up spending the night at the same hotel. Akash/Shruti end up having sex. and turns out this was the hotel which had a hidden camera. The owner of the hotel figures that Sheeja and Rahul are travelling with a lot of money and captures Sheeja. Sheeja was making a call to Lata Kutty who was with Sattu at the time. Sattu finds out where Rahul/Sheeja are. His goons find Rahul in the hotel.

Manoher goes to jail and Pinky wants Alu to get Manoher escaped from jail. Alu smuggles vomit medicines into the jail, simulates a stroke like situation with Manoher and he gets taken to the hospital, next to Sattu. Sattu finds that Manoher is in for Bhinder's murder. The next morning Alu break Manoher out with a crane and Sattu also latches on to escape. Mini explains to Bittu that even with money she wouldn't buy Chiku back as she knows that Chiku is happy with another family. If Chiku is happy, she is happy. Bittu takes delivery of the money from Mini's dad but is captured by the police. Bittu manages to escape in a police jeep and gives the money to Bhanu but doesn't want Asha or his daughter Ruhi back.

Sattu's goons find the hotel owner in the room with Sheeja and the money. The owner puts the money in the locker but is shot by the goons. Meanwhile Akash calls inspector Sukumar to come to the hotel to arrest the owner (for the hidden camera). Alu reunites Pinky with Manoher and sends them on the way to Nepal. Alu cries after Pinky leaves.

Meanwhile Shruti's fiance tracks her down to the hotel Paradise, where she spent the night with Akash. Shruti had told him that she was sorting out a family feud between her parents and needed some time. The fiance forgives Shruti and that's when Sattu reaches the hotel. Sattu gets his men to lift the entire locker out of the room, when Inspector Sukumar reaches the hotel and finds Sattu. On police wireless, Bittu finds out that Sattu is at the hotel Paradise. He attacks just as a shoot ensues inside the hotel. Bittu shoots Sattu but ends up dying.

Meanwhile Manoher blames Pinky of funking Alu in exchange for getting him out of jail. Pinky shoots Manoher. Sattu lives and takes the money back to Lata Kutty and plans to start a family with her. Pinky returns to Alu. Sheeja hid half the money and she and Rahul save it from the police for their future. Shruti goes with Akash.
