An alliance forms

Again, the most fascinating thing about Suburra is the evolving relationships between its three young men who are faced with ever greater troubles. After killing Aureliano's father, Gabrielle must spy on him to report all his plans to Samurai. And there Aureliano is thinking he has a great friend in Gabrielle, when Gabrielle has really betrayed him in two ways. Aureliano is having a difficult enough time as it is coping with his father's death and the ensuing power struggle.

The most affecting moments come in Spadino's wedding with Angelica. It's hard not to feel sorry for them both, Spadino because he was been forced into a wedding with a woman and has to pretend he feels something for her and Angelica because she has to suffer this, and her mind must be flooded with emotions, wondering why he isn't attracted to her. Why does Spadino have to live a lie?

Spadino's problems, combined with Gabrielle's and Aureliano's, leads to a stronger alliance than before as they all have things that are driving them to action. Going into business themselves, this feels like the pivotal moment this series has been heading towards and what will probably be the main focus of it up until whenever it ends.

Not everything is on point, and the corruption story about the Ostia land drags a bit. It feels like it's been put on hold to wait for other elements in the story to line up.

Suburra continues with that melancholy feel that sums up the series. For most of the characters, especially the three young men, the mafia lifestyle has sad consequences.
