Wow, so much for a budding friendship. The episode opens with Gabrielle about to shoot Aureliano's dad, but we don't know why until later- or if he succeeds. I expected it to end like it did, because how else could it? Gabrielle had to kill him to prevent his own dad's death; he had no other choice. It just shows, you can try to be kind but in this criminal underworld it won't be long before you're forced to betray your friends. You have to feel sympathy for Gabrielle. He's deep down a good guy, forced to do terrible things because he made the wrong decisions earlier on.
At least Aureliano and Spadino are getting along well. Although, based on what we've seen happen to Gabrielle, it won't last too long, not when their families have reason to hate each other's guts. Spadino finally charms his wife-to-be in some more light-hearted scenes. We know he's doing it because he has to though, and putting off the kiss is a bad sign. Once they're married, he'll have no excuse. This doesn't look like it can end well.
Meanwhile the corruption over this one bit of land is getting more complex. So much for Cinaglia being a conviction politician, before long he'll be like the rest of them, having forgotten whatever he entered into politics to achieve. The biggest takeaway however is that Samurai's plan is to let the Mafia be much more powerful in Rome.
This episode is slow in places, but maybe that's necessary to build up the relationships that will inevitably be torn apart later on.
