Monstrosity of garbage

Warning: Spoilers
I was lucky enough to be put on a jury for the local film festival where I live. This was the 2nd movie of seven I watched and this one is easily the worst one of them all. I cannot express how much I hate this movie. I'll explain why this movie sucks. I hate the uncle because he is not funny at all. He tries to be funny but I never laughed once. At a point in the movie one of the characters sees a dead bear that hunters killed and he has a mental breakdown. "Why?" You May ask. Let me assure you that he breaks down for NO REASON. I don't get it. This movie was just unbearable because of how boring it is. In case you want to know the story it is about a girl who is mourning her uncles death and has to go to a meeting so that oil tankers don't drive through the area because there has already been an accident. She hasn't seen the area before though so she kayaks with her uncle, teacher, and her son so they learn about the area. The main character brings her uncles ashes to spread around on her trip. At one point in the movie she decides to kayak BY HERSELF while fighting to dangerous wind. Naturally the teacher goes to stop her and take her back to camp, but for some reason she brings the ashes with her. Obviously they both crash their kayaks and the ashes sink. The main character gets SO MAD at the teacher even though the whole time she wanted to spread her uncles ashes. Well she did and none of the characters are on her side. They told her the exact same thing I said! Then at the end of the movie she does her meeting and then you think the movies over right? BUT NO then there's text that basically says, "yeah well the oil tankers sunk anyway and now the area is poisoned." I left the theater empty and hopeless. I told all of my fellow judges this and they still liked the movie! I absolutely HATE this movie with my entire soul. 1/10 it sucks

Touching and important

My partner and I enjoyed this film a lot. While slightly formulaic, the story is about much more than spreading somebody's ashes. The film is about a character's rediscovery of their past, their connection to a place, and their spirituality. The spreading of ashes is simply the premise or vehicle that gets the characters started on their quest (a plot device, if you will). Anybody who has ever questioned their place in their own life journey or who has felt connected (or wanted to) with nature will appreciate the soft and touching story here.

Terrible

Had to watch it in class, this movie's plot it literary the characters going to spread their uncles ashes. Their is literally nothing keeping you watching the movie, and Lorne Cardinal's acting was so bad, it was cringy. Only reason. I watched it was cause I was forced to.
