Convoluted
bugger-1707123 September 2019
This movie is convoluted without proper exposition, particularly the characters and plot points early on in the movie never get a proper explanation. The film drags on for too long, it could be 30 minutes shorter and not much would change. The movie's saving grace is definitely Fran Drescher's character, whose down-to-earth, driven attitude is very likeable. The main character is harder to watch, and her motivations are not explained clearly which makes it hard to root for her. The movie tries to make a point in the last few minutes which falls utterly flat.

Overall, I would say don't watch this unless you are a Fran Drescher fan, because she does get a lot of screen time and delivers a very solid performance. Other than her presence, the film is unremarkable and boring. It drags on for too long, focusing on an untinteresting main character in a plot that is too abstract to be engaging.

Good cast/acting- Bad script/bad story

Warning: Spoilers
Love the cast- Could have been a great movie is the script was better. Story is hard to follow and lots of tangents that have nothing to do with the plot- I think anyway because I'm still not very clear what the plot is. How to write a good book? How to be happy? How to find true love? I don't know what the hell is going on. I only give it a 5 because the characters are adorable.

The only thing that made sense in this movie is Peter Bogdanovich.

This was a fantastic film, very good script, an amazing cast; enjoyed Fran Drescher's, Lindy Booth's and Kayla Ewell's delivery of their roles .

Peter Bogdanovich is a living legend and loved seeing him in this film, perfect for the role. Good dialogues, character development, not a common story. It engages the audience and makes you experience what the characters are going through. Recommended!

Artsy?

I spent almost all of this movie trying to figure out what was going on. I'm not sure I ever did. The story is kind of like what Eryn praises in her TV interview. I don't think you are supposed to know for sure and I think you are intended to work it out how you want it to be.

I am a huge Lindy Booth fan and I do think she was right for this role. She gets to play a variety of moods and even maybe more than one personality. But she does quirky exceptionally and much of the Eryn we saw was quirky. As of this writing, Booth is third billing on IMDb. That makes no sense since she was in almost every scene and no one else even comes close.

I've read criticism of Booth for her voice. Well hers was pretty normal especially compared to her main co-star. Fran's voice grated on me after a while.

I'm not much into comedies for many years, especially not what passes for it on network TV today. Likewise with many movies. I'd rate this movie as being in the top 5% for amount of laughs it got from me. Not to say it was all comedy because there were some sad moments as well.

I liked it. If I had been a little more sure of what was supposed to really have happened in Eryn's life, I might give it 7 or 8 stars. So does the ambiguity make this movie "artsy"?
