Can't believe I watched the whole thing!

Wow, this is an awful movie. The acting was so bad it was almost comical. The writing was horrible & unrealistic. The only reason I give it 4 stars is because of Ellen Hollman. She's the only one who could act & the only reason I didn't turn it off after 15 minutes.

good turns dumb
SnoopyStyle18 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Brenner (Ellen Hollman) and Dillion (Matt Passmore) are a married couple on a camping trip in the woods. Dillion is a cop haunted and recovering from a fight to the death with a crazed killer. They are harassed by masochist hick Butch and his buddies but saved by commanding waitress Mama. The couple gets caught out in the rain and finds shelter in a remote house. They find a cache of weapons and taken captive by Butch and his gang.

Let me be clear. I really like this movie all the way to the axe. I think it's great move to have the axe there. It's reasonable that the thugs would miss the axe while cleaning up the camp site. An axe is also a great prop for the poster. This could be a simple exploitation film, a girl with an axe. Put the axe in her belt loop and shoot it from her backside. What they do next is to sharpen a stick and leave the axe. WTF. Use the axe. There is no way that she could puncture anything with that stick without an unhuman amount of horsepower behind her.

Time and again, the lead character should be collecting supplies like food and weapons but don't. She doesn't even grab a kitchen knife. On the positive side, she's pretty good at jiu-jitsu and stage fighting. That may be why the movie keeps putting her in hand-to-hand combat situations. They don't realize that instead of admiration, it engenders derision. It makes her look dumb. She should be walking away from the cabin. She should keep that shotgun even if it doesn't have any shells. Maybe check the body for ammo. At worst, a shotgun is an effective stick or something scary to threaten someone. She should avoid the locals. She is so dumb that she trusts a local just because she's a chick. Kick her out of the truck and steal it for heaven's sake. The last thing she should do is fall asleep. Get out of the area. In the scene where the girl has a knife to her throat, Brenner completely forgets about the guy she's fighting and turns her back on him. It's ridiculously dumb. Reasonable would be to shot the guy first before turning to the other. It's frustrating when a perfectly smart character turns dumber and dumber. This movie starts out perfectly good but it descends into a dumb writing exercise.

One big painfull cliché
sandra-21721 December 2021
Crossover between Rambo and I spit on your grave. Poor acting flooded with all the clichés one can wish for. Not too bad to watch if you're mostly occupied with something else and have one eye to spare on the screen.

Does anyone find it odd that every good review on this movie has a new account created on the same date the movie was released and its the only review the user has ever done 🤔🤔🤔

Terrible Writing - Don't waste your time
shamblinhamilton-6209521 October 2021
More terrible writers from Hollywood.

These two women writers must NOT know anything about being a Army Ranger or the military. Story was very poorly written. Everything this "Women Ranger" did was just stupid. Why would you write a story about a topic "Being an Army Ranger" that you know nothing about?

Movie writers in Hollywood do not have a clue.

If you want to watch 6'4 250lb men getting beat up by a 5'8 105lb women in poorly scripted fight scenes... Then watch away...

Everything is bad in this movie
Mah_Jam27 December 2020
What's more disappointing than this very bad movie is the high rating reviews, which I watched the movie based on them! I tried to find anything good in story, acting, or directing but couldn't. Even the music was so ridiculous and the transition between scenes was even more stupid. Don't waste your time on this!

Poor acting, horrible action scenes
abel_en_jantina20 December 2020
This film is atrocious. The first ten minutes are okay, but it goes downhill fast. The acting is of a questionable level, and the characters are horribly one-dimensional. The latter wouldn't be an issue if the fight scenes were good, it's an action flick after all. Sadly they are not. The actors freeze so long after a blocked strike, you can easily count to 2 Mississippi before the next move is made. It's so fake I laughed out loud on more than one occasion.

REALLY bad!!!
triodaddyo-144-5447453 December 2021
Couldn't make it through the movie it was so bad. If it were a comedy maybe it could work but as a drama/thriller it's a stinker. The acting, writing and frankly, the plot, are all just really bad.

Warning: Spoilers
This is a simple film about vengeance but sometimes the simple things in life are what that give you the most joy. This rings true for this film. The female protagonist embarks on revenge after a group of rednecks torture & murder her husband.

She uses her skills to pick them off one by one until she meets the boss. You can switch off your thinking's mind and enjoy this as it is intended.

Incredible. No. Not credible. At all.
dabuck-044035 October 2021
Everyone else has commented on how bad and unrealistic the acting and dialogue (and situations) are in this film. But if you.watch this like it were a comic parody of a Rambo-style movie with a female lead, it ends being hysterically bad. Perhaps if they hired real hillbillies and rednecks, the acting would have been more realistic.

A Violent But Entertaining Female "Rambo" Revenge Epic
zardoz-1331 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Sometimes, nothing hits the spot like a disposable, low-budget, B-movie that trots out all the usual tropes. "Bloodlines" director Stephen Durham's rural crime thriller "Army of One" qualifies as a "Rambo" revenge pastiche. A happily married couple from Georgia camp out in the Alabama backwoods and run afoul of a homegrown criminal cartel led by a murderous matriarch who prefers to be called "Mama." Mama and her mesomorphic maniacs are so odious you'll savor their demise at the hands of our indestructible leading lady who takes a licking but never stops kicking. Cast as a tenacious, U. S. Army Ranger skilled in hand-to-hand combat, actress Ellen Hollman proves herself every inch a tigress. Although the opposition outnumbers her, they make the fatal mistake of underestimating her rage. Recuperating from stab wounds on an unrelated case, Atlantic Homicide Detective Dillon Baker (Matt Passmore of "Jigsaw") and his wife Brenner (Ellen Hollman of "The Matrix Resurrections") take time off to enjoy the great outdoors in the Heart of Dixie. At one point, a summer shower catches this amorous couple in the open, and they take refuge in a remote shack in the woods. Shedding their sodden apparel, the couple indulge in some afternoon delight. Afterward, Brenner's suspicions are aroused by the sight of a huge armoire blocking a doorway. Dillon refuses to help his wife move the unwieldy armoire. After Brenner shoves it aside, they discover an abundance of assault rifles, C-4 plastic explosives, and marihuana. Earlier in the day, a Forest Ranger had stopped by their camp and warned them about the unfriendly natives. Before the couple realize it, the cabin owners surprise them, tie them up, beat them down, and shoot them in their skulls. These homicidal hellions waste no time hauling away their warm bodies and heaving of them in a gully where nobody will ever find them. Unfortunately, for these felonious fools, one of their bullets creased rather than cleft a skull!

Watching Brenner tangle with tough guys twice her size is the best part of "Army of One." These encounters are staged with just enough flair to know some thought went into them. The filmmakers add to Brenner's statue later when Mama's college boy son, Lawrence (Jacob Hobbs of "Death Factory"), finds Brenner on Facebook, while Mama peers over his shoulder. "First female Ranger," Mama takes the words out of Lawrence's mouth as they scan the posts of our heroine in army fatigues. Somewhere on the sprawling, ten-thousand acres that Mama owns and cultivates for her criminal pursuits, our heroine decides to destroy everything that Mama has created. When Brenner and her husband Dillon cruised into Mama's bailiwick initially, Mama's Mohawk headed son Butch (Gary Kasper of "The Lincoln Lawyer") played chicken with them. Recklessly, this blustery buffoon swerved his pick-up truck up alongside them in the adjacent lane of the two-lane country road to badger them. Brenner and Dillon ignore Butch until they stop for food at a local café, when they reencounter Butch in the company of his friends. Mama intervenes when Butch tries to bully the couple again and sends her son packing. Later, after they had established their campsite, the couple are cautioned by a Forest Ranger (newcomer Melissa McLaney) about the xenophobic attitude of the locals. Little did our heroes realize at the time the Forest Ranger was on Mama's payroll and would keep Mama abreast of the couple's whereabouts. Mama's network of informants extends into the Sheriff's Office, too, with a sexy dispatcher who alerts Mama about anything of interest. Eventually, Sheriff Hobbs (Niko Foster of "Supercollider") and Brenner run into each other on Mama's acreage. Brenner guns down one of Mama's trigger-happy henchmen only moments after he shot Hobbs in the leg.

Above all else, the feminist-fueled "Army of One" amounts to a clash of wills between two uber dames. Neither are prepared to concede. Director Stephen Durham does an admirable job of balancing out our heroine's heroics with the horrible atrocities of her chief adversary, Mama (Geraldine Singer of "Green Book"), a matriarchal puppet master who pulls the strings of her brawny country boy mafia. Just as Ellen Hollman commands your attention in her rough and tumble combat scenes, Mama dominates every scene with her imperturbable 'poker face,' until she realizes the threat our heroine poses to her criminal enterprise. Gradually, Mama unravels each time Brenner whittles down her goon squad. Unlike the athletic Brenner who is either shooting a guy in his tracks or slugging it out with another, Mama behaves more like a coldblooded criminal czar rather than a warm, sweet mother figure. Mama projects an aura of menace that not even her boisterous son Butch would dare to defy. For example, once he wraps up an illicit automatic weapons sale with a mercenary, Butch takes the payment and stashes it without bothering to count the amount. Butch's behavior surprises the mercenary. Mama's Mohawk wearing son points out that the mercenary made a deal with Mama. In a rare moment of candor, Butch warns the mercenary that nobody lives who crosses his Mama. Mama is ten-times more vindicative than Butch. During the final moments of this brisk 86-minute epic, Mama reveals her murderous penchant for violence when she kills an innocent hostage Brenner sought to rescue. Indeed, if you pay attention to the dynamics of their rivalry, Mama's last casualty-a simple-minded girl that her son raped and impregnated-- illustrates Mama's sadism. As "Army of One" draws to a close with Mama still alive, Brenner returns for a showstopping finale that you won't forget!

If you're looking for a movie you can tune out and enjoy the ride then this is up your alley. Really enjoyed the final action sequence at the end that looks like it was in all one shot, very well done.

It's as bad as they say...
rhaase-99-27099216 October 2021
Sometimes I wonder why a movie gets such bad user reviews. After watching this poorly written, poorly acted, poorly directed and poorly edited travesty of a film I can say without a doubt this one deserves them. With this one it's a miracle that anyone liked it. Do yourself a favor and miss this movie!

Would never happen!
Go_For_The_Jugular12 January 2021
I had really high hopes going into this...but switched off after 30 minutes, for the following reason:

Any film where a couple just wander into an UNLOCKED weapons bunker (which they thought was someone's home)...and precede to have sex on a filthy couch and wrap their naked bodies in sheets they just found...is not a film for me. It just wouldn't happen. There IS a certain type of woman that would have sex anywhere and on anything, but this woman wasn't one of them so...

Going in to get out of the rain is fine and believable...but the rest is just ridiculous.

Film-wise 2021 is off to an awful start...I hope things get better.

One awful movie
kim-317-62852424 December 2020
Obviously somebody was getting paid to write positive reviews. The writing is bad enough but the acting is even worse. A bunch of redneck hillbillies terrorize a young couple, who just happen to be a copy and a ranger. It just goes downhill from there.

poor story, poor acting, the dogs were ok
rferreirao22 December 2020
The idea might worked, but the script was lazy, there was lack of rhythm and the acting was mediocre. Don't expect much of this movie, you'll waste your time. I really didn't get how can this movie be rated an average of 6.

A GRITTY RIDE
jackolate16 December 2020
Wasn't sure which direction this was going when the movie begins. In fact, you think it's about the husband (Matt Passmore, great actor) but WOW it goes in a completely different direction that I expected! It was dirty, gritty and a wild action filled 90 minutes. I would recommend for a Friday night takeout with the fam!
