In January 2019, this show was honored with a large public mural featuring all five main characters. It was painted on the wall of the Badgers Bar and Restaurant, which is located at 18 Orchard Street, Derry. In Northern Ireland, it is a tradition to paint murals on the outside of buildings, with the purpose to depict the region's cultural and political history.
Since its Netflix debut in December 2018, this show has developed a global cult-following, which came unexpected for the cast and crew. For instance, while visiting the US, Nicola Coughlan and Dylan Llewellyn were surprised to be recognized by people, with many calling Llewellyn the "wee English fella".
Siobhán McSweeney, who plays Sister Michael, broke her right leg after she fell off a bicycle while filming another show in August 2021. Soon after her accident, filming for the third season began. Her injury was incorporated into the show, which explains why she is using crutches for much of the season.
According to writer and producer Lisa McGee, each character has a favourite film:
- Erin always says that her favourite film is Three Colors: Blue (1993), despite not having seen it. Her favourite film is Beetlejuice (1988).
- Orla's favourite film is Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls (1995).
- Michelle's favourite is The Exorcist (1973), mainly to "quote a certain line about what the Priest's Mother does in hell".
- Clare's favourite film is The Little Mermaid (1989).
- James is a true film buff. Although he claims that his favourite is The Godfather (1972), it is in fact Ghost (1990).
Nicola Coughlan based her Derry accent on Nadine Coyle, while Louisa Harland based hers on her co-star Saoirse-Monica Jackson, who is a Derry native.
