“Jawan” has been in theatres for three weeks, and the film is breaking records daily. With mass-appealing action sequences, emotional character arcs, and the screen presence of Shah Rukh Khan like never before, Atlee has created a movie that is full of awe and can’t be missed. With it, Shah Rukh Khan solidified his comeback as the heartthrob of people after his five-year hiatus from Bollywood. Critically, though, “Jawan” is deemed too far-fetched in terms of logic and lacks substantial content (though I can’t entirely agree with it), as it is a compilation of Atlee’s entire body of work, stitching together elements from different sources, both national and international. But it is odd to seek logic in a work like this, as it is meant to be a mass entertainer from the beginning, celebrating the persona of its protagonist, and director Atlee has accomplished this task with conviction.

Actor Arjun Kapoor feels the climax of Dibakar Banerjee's "Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar" sets up the prospect of a sequel that can be dark and gritty.

He added: "Now, it is up to the director and his genius mind to tell us whether or not he sees this happening. I can assure you that whenever he gives the green signal, Pari (Parineeti Chopra) and I will be on to shoot."

Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar; Cast Parineeti Chopra, Arjun Kapoor, Jaideep Ahlawat, Raghubir Yadav, Neena Gupta; Direction: Dibakar Banerjee; Rating: * * (two stars)
By Vinayak Chakravorty
Dark and quirky, sombre and amusing. Dibakar Banerjee's cinema is often typified by ironies. With "Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar", the filmmaker tries using the trademark idiom to narrate a story of the societal divide that erupts when a boorish heartland cop crosses path with an educated, refined bigtown girl who is a corporate bigshot.
The idea is to set up a battle of the sexes using the language of black comedy, even as the film attempts to draw focus on patriarchy, and towards two radically different Indias that have forever struggled to coexist.
Barring his debut directorial "Khosla Ka Ghosla", Banerjee's sense of cinematic humour has never been mainstream. With Parineeti Chopra and Arjun Kapoor toplining the cast of his latest, Banerjee has not surprisingly tried...

Mumbai, March 18 (Ians) Filmmaker Dibakar Banerjee's new film "Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar" opens on Friday. He feels be it Ott or theatres, storytellers want maximum eyeballs for their projects.
Commenting on whether Ott has now cemented its place in the audience mindset, Dibakar tells Ians: "I think even theatrical producers and directors are deeply cementing their product to what their audience wants to see, so we all want the maximum number of eyes to see us and give us money, fame and power. In my case, when I want to tell the audience a story, I tell it my way and hope that I can convert more and more people to my way of thinking."

Mumbai, March 16 (Ians) "Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar" producer-director Dibakar Banerjee says he was "adamant" to have actor Jaideep Ahlawat in the film. Jaideep plays the role of a corrupt, dark, evil cop in the storyline.

Mumbai, Feb 25: Bollywood experienced a lull last year with hardly any film getting a theatrical release owing to the complete closure of cinemas. With business opening up, many films are ready to release and raring to go. The inevitable, of course, is happening with a slew of films announcing release dates. In an overcrowded market, multiple Fridays this year will see box office clash between two films.
"These sort of clashes should not happen, especially at this time. As it is, business is slow. People are not coming to the theatres in big numbers and the situation is not all that profitable. At this point of time, we cannot afford clashes," says trade analyst Atul Mohan.
He adds that if producers only keep eyeing festive or strategic dates for release, such clashes are bound to happen and, what's more, their films might not end up doing as well as...

The global vaccine rollout is reason to finally believe there could be an end to this pandemic, but it’s evident the recovery process is going to be gradual and slow. Ahead of the curve, however, appears to be India.
Back in September, the country’s virus situation looked to be spiraling out of control, with nearly 100,000 cases being recorded daily, the highest rate in the world. Flash forward four months and the situation is a stark contrast – this week fewer than 10,000 cases were report on certain days, about half that of the UK and less than some U.S. states.
The reasons for this remarkable recovery are wide-reaching, and are being studied in detail by the global scientific community, but a degree of herd immunity and a wide presence of antibodies is being cited as key. In response, the government is re-opening the economy to pre-pandemic levels, including the beloved big screen business.

Arjun Kapoor and Parineeti Chopra are going to gatecrash a wedding while being on the run in their next film Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar. The two will shoot an out-and-out high energy dance number and director Dibakar Banerjee sure seems to be in the mood for some quirk as he has interestingly named the song Faraar in keeping with the theme of the film and predicament the lead actors of the movie find themselves in.
A catchy title, being Faraar or being a runaway seems to be critical to the plot of this film. A source says, “Arjun and Parineeti gate-crash a Kumaoni wedding. Actually, it’s more like a bachelor party that they happen to enter while trying to escape those who want them dead. Arjun and Parineeti use this wedding to hide from the people chasing them. So, it has been aptly titled Faraar.”

Arjun Kapoor and Parineeti Chopra are currently undergoing the most challenging shooting schedule of their career. Dibakar Banerjee has taken the lead actors of his new thriller , Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar, to shoot at the international border of India and Nepal that is constantly under radar for illegal immigration. Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar, is the only film ever to shoot at this location!
“Dibakar is filming extremely intense and gritty portions of the film at the Indo-Nepal border. The portions will show the tension between Arjun and Parineeti’s character. These are crucial and defining moments of the film. The area where the two are shooting is exactly at the border and is constantly under alert for illegal immigration and smuggling. People use an inflated rubber tube as a flotation device on the Kali river at the border and make this risky crossing in the thick of a wintry night.

Known for pushing the envelope with his content cinema, Dibakar Banerjee is presenting Arjun Kapoor in an all new avatar. In the first glimpse of his character from Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar, we see that in the film, Arjun plays a 30-year-old police constable from Haryana.
Arjun has spent extensive amounts of time prepping for this role under the supervision of his Director Dibakar Banerjee. He interacted with police recruits across all ranks in both the Delhi Police and Haryana police and also visited a training academy to witness all that goes into the making of a heartland cop.
“Playing a cop is traditionally considered cool in Hindi films. But in a Dibakar Banerjee film, a cop is presented as realistic and yet, unique as a person. Its that dichotomy of blending yet and still standing out that makes this role all the more exciting. Dibakar is very specific about the look of his characters.
