Boring, Oregon does not have a high school. The series was filmed at the former Oregon City High School.
The typo and style of the opening and closing credits are very similar to those of My So-Called Life, one of the most iconic teen series of the early 90s, which introduced both Claire Danes and Jared Leto.
The character Sherry O'Neal was inspired by co-creator Ben York Jones' mother, who he said "devoted every aspect of her life, every choice she made, to the hope for betterment of her son's future. Sherry's a tribute to that staggering and uncommon level of selflessness and sacrifice."
