The authorities go against their better judgment and all Harry to take Cora back to places that are fragments of her recollection. This is a bit of a stretch, but Harry has her handcuffed and risks a felony to take her out. Also, the police will have no trouble arresting the two of them. This is hit and miss and a dangerous thing to do because it could be the only chance left. An epiphany takes place near the end, but how can it exonerate her? Harry's life is already in shambles and he doesn't want it more complicated, but his moral compass wants this last thing. He is more concerned with right than the usual things that would make a life fulfilling.
