Bad Scripts, Awful Acting
hamfist-5744613 November 2017
This show tries to tell stories in a suspenseful/mysterious vein, but fails miserably.

The scripts are about as suspenseful as a shopping list. Often, they either make no sense or the characters are in situations that simply defy any sort of believability.

The acting is incredibly amateurish; most of the acting performances are just horrible/completely unconvincing.

I usually enjoy these types of programs (anthologies of short stories); Strange Events is clearly a low budget program, but to me, it was simply unwatchable.

It's a series, not a movie?
ndaleska9 December 2019
I have no idea what these reviews are talking about. This is a series, with episodes. Over 120 minutes all together, not 77. I had to recheck, in case I was on the wrong page. I'm not. This is a really strangely done series. The acting isn't great, the scripting is weird, and kind of high schoolish. I almost feel like high schoolers would have done a better job. Some of the stories have legitimately no ending. You're left in confusion, which is frustrating. Honestly, the show makes great background noise, but really isn't worth the watch.

Don't waste your time or money. Lousy writing, acting and story telling.

Why is the Poster the same as (The Haunting in Connecticut 2)
straycat-7725528 April 2019
If you look at this movie poster and that movie poster from (The Haunting in Connecticut 2) you will notice both are the same, Did some one make an error, or is this a spoof of that movie,

The Haunting 2 came out much earlier then this movie,

Put it on in the background
foxtrotmarie26 August 2019
Some of the ideas were pretty good, like actually made you go 'huh.'

Mostly the stories were rushed or meh. A lot of them made no sense at all either in how the characters got there or just 'why' in general. I get the short story idea but if you have absolutely no setup then it's hard to watch some event happen and understand it at all.

Put it on while you do other stuff. It's okay to glance at but dont expect a whole lot.

Think Night Gallery, or Tales from the Crypt.

But, like shot on a phone, by your friends.

But by your talented and smart friends, who really show promise as filmmakers.

I really enjoyed it, I gave it a 7.

I liked the stories it tells, I enjoy indie horrors because they're fun, often innovative either out of creativity or necessity.

The production values acting and writing?

I told you I liked it, because I did.

For the production values think small town cable commercial, or forklift training video maybe? I can't say they're bad, these people aren't incompetent. But with this budget.

The acting isn't horrible, everyone played their parts, no one was reading off a card or stammering their way through.

I think the writing was pretty good.

It's very indie, very low budget, not "amateurish" and not incompetent. But if that's not your thing you probably shouldn't watch it. But hey, it's on prime, give it a look you can always quit.

This is one of those films where, after watching it I thought. I'd really like to see these guys get to make something with a real budget.

Not particularly thrilling or entertaining...
paul_haakonsen6 May 2019
"Strange Events" sort of cash in on the success of "Stranger Things", not only by its title, but also by its title music which is very reminiscent of that TV series.

Regardless, I decided to watch "Strange Events", even though I had no idea what I was getting myself into, aside from it being a horror movie. Turned out that this was a horror anthology. Yeah, I know right, and I was going 'oh, this is going to be interesting', as I really like anthologies.

But the matter of the fact is that "Strange Events" wasn't particularly interesting or entertaining. In fact, I ended up turning it off after 46 minutes of enduing a less than mediocre foray into various aspects of horror. Now, it should be said that some of the segments that I managed to sit through were interesting and definitely had potential, but others were downright abysmal and so boring you want to claw out your eyes.

I gave up after 46 minutes of being relatively bored. So I just opted to toss in the towel and not finish the rest of the movie, especially because I felt my eyelids growing more and more heavy with each passing segment.

Some of the segments actually had fairly adequate acting performances, and it was also nice to see unfamiliar faces on the screen - which is something that I definitely enjoy. But it wasn't enough to lift up this sinking movie experience.

If you enjoy horror anthologies, then your money, time and effort is better spent elsewhere.

Surprisingly not awful, VHS comparison
inexplicable00730 August 2019
If you've seen the movie VHS and enjoyed it there is a chance you'll like this. This film sort of reminds me of YouTube horror shorts, some are good some are not. Essentially there are a few short weird and inexplicable things happening to people in different places and different dates. For this to be on such a low budget and with mediocre acting some of the creepy parts are done rather well, I give credit to the director because the camera angles upped the scares. I liked that each story was short and to the point so whether you enjoyed it or not there wasn't much time spent on it. I do believe this is worth a watch and because I was perturbed and it kept my interest In going to give it a solid 6.

What did I just watch?
apexpropaint15 July 2019
This has to be one of the most schizophrenic, going nowhere movie's I have seen in quite some time. The only suggestion I would give for this movie to someone reading this - watch something else. Seriously. If I can save just 1 person 77 minutes of their life it will be worth the five minutes it took to write this. You see I was robbed of those 77 minutes and I will never get it back. How this movie registers above a 2.9 here is paranormal in itself.

One of the best horror anthologies.
joekeigans31 December 2019
The other reviewers must not watch many horror movies. This is hands down one of the best anthology films I have ever seen. The acting, and production design are outstanding for a film with this budget. The segments are to the point. And each capture what they where trying to, be that horror, comedy, or more mind bending stuff. All of the segments have a consistent, feel, and tone to them most horror anthologies don't. And whoever decided to end the film on a high note, was just genius. I am not even a fan of horror anthologies, this is the one I like most out of all of them.

Amateur Hour
ninjajin-7292611 February 2021
I watched 20 minutes and had to turn off. The concepts are interesting but the application fails hard. An over-reliance on jump scares and harsh musical instrumentation mixed with bad acting and completely unbelievable actions-reactions from the characters was too much for me to handle.

The production values are good, but that's like praising the plates, knives and forks while eating a crap sandwich.

It seems all the good script writers and actors have retreated to their underground bunkers during Corona.

C'mon Gal, tell us again, were all in this together!

Worse t.v. show ever!!!
abadbatman25 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The first ten minutes of the first episode is just a pathetic attempt to build suspense, I suspect a child wrote the script it was so mentally deficient.

I have no idea how this show has a 4.8 rating, you'd have to be brain dead to make it past the first episode.
