Dwayne Johnson recently wowed audiences with his heel turn at WrestleMania Xl, surprising everyone with his edgy tone and language leading up to the event. While Johnson is known to be a thorough professional, he goes by his own rules and does what he feels is right for him, whether it be WWE or films.

Although it’s difficult to imagine that someone would say no to Steven Spielberg – the guy who changed cinema with 1975’s Jaws, Eon studios apparently rejected him. According to reports, after earning popularity and experience following Jaws, Spielberg wanted to direct a James Bond movie. But unfortunately, despite begging producer Cubby Broccoli for a chance, the filmmaker was turned down.

But surprisingly, Steven Spielberg’s love for his childhood hero James Bond, and his desire to direct a Bond movie came true after he collaborated with his best bud George Lucas. Working on Lucasfilms’ adventure film series Indiana Jones starring Harrison Ford, Spielberg went on a mission to make his dream come true and took a cheeky 007 dig in Temple of Doom.

Following Strange World, Disney’s new animated feature – Wish – will not be getting a 4K disc release in the UK: just DVD and Blu-ray.
Released in a blaze of publicity at the end of last year was Disney’s latest animated feature, Wish. This one carried the added responsibility of celebrating 100 years of Disney, and while the film’s solid enough, I’d argue it was weighed down by the extra centenary baggage.
Still, it’s entertaining, and looks and sounds superb, which makes it prime fodder for a 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray physical media release. However, its muted box office performance means that Disney has opted to limit its physical release to DVD and Blu-ray instead.
This was the same fate that befell Disney’s preceding animated feature, the terrific-looking Strange World. That didn’t ignite the box office, either, and had its home media release slightly restricted.

Ever since Dwayne Johnson returned to the ring in the WWE earlier this year, the brand as well as the WWE Universe have been eating well with what The Rock is cooking up for the future, more specifically, for the upcoming WrestleMania Xl.
It’ll be the place where the heated rivalry between Johnson and WWE Superstar Cody Rhodes will settle the bad blood that’s been boiling between them.
Dwayne Johnson at Monday Night Raw
But until that eventual showdown finally arrives, the star is doing all he can to hype their match-up as much as possible, which, combined with his heel phase, results in the athlete running wild. Thus, to further promote this rivalry, Johnson has harnessed the power of memes into his merch and made fun of Rhodes getting slapped by him with the classic Batman Slaps Robin meme.

Disney has unveiled the teaser trailer for their latest animated movie titled Wish, initially inspired by the classic Disney lyric "when you wish upon a star..." Rob Lowe and his 28-year-old son, John Owen Lowe, got downright serious — and a bit emotional — during their latest appearance on “The Drew Barrymore Show”.
The father-son comedic duo had a lot banter during Thursday’s show, trading barbs and zinging each other. But the conversation turned serious, after Barrymore opened up about her sobriety journey and sharing that her family supports “me through my pitfalls.”
She then commended Rob and John Owen for supporting “each other through every high and low.”
Rob chimed in and talked about being in recovery for 33 years now. After the crowd clapped, Rob then shared Johnny’s “got five years.”
At that point, Rob reached into his pocket and surprised John Owen with his five-year sobriety chip.
“In fact, Johnny’s five-year birthday was on Saturday,” Rob said. “And Johnny, I want to give you your five-year chip. I love you. I’m proud of you.

Then this binge-watching guide is for you.
In this guide, we’ll outline routes through this underrated sci-fi series focusing on particular characters, story arcs, or episode types. Welp, 2021 was certainly a year. There was a lot of good (Movies! TV! Books! Random Horror Awesomeness!) and a lot of bad (pretty much everything else), but we made it to 2022, and I am excited for all that’s to come in the next 12 months (at least when it comes to stuff going on in horror). Over the course of last year, I think formally reviewed over 60 films, did interviews for at least 20 other projects beyond those reviewed films, relaunched Indie Horror Month in April, and even did a ton of other features and articles on Daily Dead as well.
Suffice to say, 2021 was pretty darned busy for me on the writing front and because there was so much content that I absolutely adored, I decided that for my favorites list this time around, I wanted to do things a bit differently because if I dive into every single thing...

Hello, dear readers! November is officially upon us, as well as a new week of Blu-ray and DVD releases, which means it’s time to make some room for more horror and sci-fi to fill your home entertainment shelves. Hulu’s list of new releases for June 2021 is highlighted by a host of useful library titles and one fascinating original film.
The original film in question is the one that lends its delightful photo of Pierce Brosnan delivering a baby to this post. False Positive stars and was written by Ilana Glazer (Broad City). It sounds like a really fun, creepy time with a synopsis that reads: “After months of trying and failing to get pregnant, Lucy (Glazer) and Adrian (Justin Theroux) finally find their dream fertility doctor in the illustrious Dr. Hindle (Pierce Brosnan). But after becoming pregnant with a healthy baby girl, Lucy begins to notice something sinister through Hindle’s gleaming charm, and she sets out to uncover the unsettling truth about him, and her own “birth story.” Cool!
Hulu’s other original offerings aren’t too inspiring this month. Only Love, Victor season 2 on June 11 moves the needle much.

The Science of Sleep: Burns Roars into Your Rem Cycle with Broody Thriller
“To sleep, perchance to scream” might be a takeaway impression from Come True, the sophomore film from Canadian director Anthony Scott Burns, a moody little somnambulistic thriller which will generate a bevy of comparisons (or tantalizing synchronicities) across a variety of conceptual sci-fi stories.
Long, drawn out sequences segue into increasingly menacing territory not unlike the experience and oft-illogical processes of a nightmare with a stellar combination of visuals and audio cues inviting the audience into a tense lull. A compelling performance from lead Julia Sarah Stone as a traumatized runaway turned sleep study participant assists in the necessary emotional investment to keep the film on edge during precarious drifts.…...

Anthony Scott Burns–filmmaker, musician, and half the team behind “Our House”–branches into science fiction with the eerily hypnotic “Come True,” starring Julia Sarah Stone. Take some Wes Craven, fold in David Cronenberg, sprinkle on a bit of Carl Jung and Philip K. Dick, and you get “Come True,” which imagines a not-so-distant future in which dreams are studied like math problems.

Another week, another step toward the world as we knew it before Covid-19, thanks to nationwide vaccination efforts and the gradual reopening of theaters. A week after New York cinemas cautiously reopened, Los Angeles plans to do the same, and distributors are serving up movies they’d kept on the sidelines to serve the venues that have suffered so greatly this past year — although after last week’s deluge, this one brings a pretty meager menu of new releases.
Perhaps most tantalizing is Pedro Almodóvar’s “The Human Voice,” starring Tilda Swinton. Sony Pictures Classics is releasing the 30-minute short film, which debuted at the Venice Film Festival (one of 2020’s few in-person events), in just a handful of theaters, along with a fresh restoration of the Spanish master’s “Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown.” That means audiences can come just for a short, social-distanced experience (ducking...

Are you ready for the weekend? Specifically, are you ready for a Long Weekend? Of course, we’re referring to the rom-com from Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions’ Stage 6 Films.
Long Weekend will make its debut in theaters today and marks the feature directorial debut of Steve Basilone, who also wrote the script.
The rom-com stars Finn Wittrock as Bart who has a serendipitous meeting with Vienna played by Zoë Chao. She’s a little bit of a mystery, but the two end up having a connection and they spend a whirlwind weekend together (hence the title of the movie). As the two fall fast and hard for each other, they dont realize that both carry secrets that could be their undoing… or the chance for a fresh start.
The film also features Casey Wilson, Jim Rash and Damon Wayans, Jr. Long Weekend is produced by Deanna Barillari, Laura Lewis, Theodora Dunlap,...

“Come True” wears its many influences on its sleeve, notably the work of David Cronenberg and Philip K. Dick, “A Nightmare on Elm Street” and “Donnie Darko,” with nods to “The Shining,” “Night of the Living Dead” and “The Terminator” thrown in for good measure. Nonetheless, filmmaker Anthony Scott Burns (“Our House”) melds those inspirations — as well as Rodney Ascher’s “The Nightmare” — to craft a uniquely illusory sci-fi thriller about an adrift young woman who copes with her unsettling slumbering visions by participating in a sleep study. that should bolster its chances to break out of the genre pack when it debuts in select theaters and on VOD on March 12.

Few cinematic tropes are as easy — and annoying — to deploy than the winking revelation that “it was all just a dream!” And while filmmaker Anthony Scott Burns mostly avoids falling into that particular narrative trap in “Come True,” a horror outing built around literal nightmares that just might be real, he can’t avoid other missteps that do similar damage to an otherwise compelling story. In just his second feature, , but a series of stumbles in the film’s final act — the worst of which is run through with icky implications Burns seems terribly unaware of — end the film on a wearisome final point.
Most of the work that gets us there is good, however, and Burns’ ability to build an original horror film out of compelling ideas is obvious. Bolstered by a strong performance from Julia Sarah Stone and an intriguing setup, “Come True” has plenty of elements worth celebrating,...

Ever have a bad dream? Maybe, you’ve had the same bad dream more than once… Well, writer, director and composer Anthony Scott Burns artfully explores the edges of daily reality that often become our nightmares in Come True (2020), with unsettling results.
It’s a pretty simple setup. We open on a gloomy monochromatic nightmare, which creeps through a dilapidated hallway and finds a hunched, malformed figure… Then, Sarah Dunn (Julia Sarah Stone) springs awake from her bad dream on a children’s slide in a deserted park. She’s having trouble sleeping, and staying awake is proving just as difficult. Haunting her daylight hours, with stolen showers, a dozen cups of coffee and narcoleptic maths lessons, it all becomes too much, and Sarah nervously signs up to a sleep study program at a local university to get some answers and a goodnight’s sleep.

Hello, everyone, and welcome to a brand new month of streaming! If your sleeping has been a bit off during the pandemic for understandable reasons, a new sci-fi thriller should feel frighteningly relatable. A selection at Fantasia Film Festival, Nightstream Film Festival, and Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival, Anthony Scott Burns’ Canadian feature Come True follows an 18-year-old runaway named Sarah (Julia Sarah Stone) who submits to a university sleep study, but soon realizes she’s become the conduit to a frightening new discovery. Anthony Scott Burns' cinematic nightmare, Come True, is coming to select cinemas, on digital and cable VOD in the U.S. on March 12th. It's distributor, IFC Midnight, released a trailer yesterday. Have a look for yourself below. Unlike the trailer that marks the release in Australia and New Zealand from Lightbulb Film Distribution this trailer does venture to show you some of the nightmarish imagry Burns uses in his film. We're going to post that trailer shortly after. They're very distinct in their purpose. This trailer from IFC Midnight focuses more on the sleep study, the nightmares and is more clinical. This looks more into the retro-futuristic art direction and technology, feeling the influences of our Canadian god father of genre cinema, David Cronenburg. ...

A distinctive and compelling work of dark sci-fi horror that haunts the space between wakefulness and sleep. It follows a young woman who starts to experience disturbing dreams during a sleep study. "As the darkness begins to close in, it's soon clear that Sarah has unknowingly become the conduit to a horrifying, new discovery..." Featuring music by Electric Youth and Pilotpriest. This is a freaky, sleek film about the horrors of sleep paralysis and darkness within our dreams.
