Quotes

  • Pyra : I will give you half of my life force. That way... you can be revived... As my Driver. As the driver of the Aegis. Can you, take me to Elysium?

Rex : The Driver... of the Aegis? Wh-what the...?

Pyra : What will you do, Rex?

Rex : Is this place really your home?

    Pyra : It is.

Rex : And it really exists...?

Pyra : Rex, I know what you're thinking, and you are correct. By... coming to this place... you can save the world. Save it from the slow demise that is its fate.

Rex : We... wouldn't have to live... in fear. Then there's only one choice. I'm in. Let's go to Elysium! I'll take you there myself!

Pyra : Thank you, Rex. Now, place your hand on my chest.

Rex : What? A-are you sure?

[Pyra's Core Crystal beats audibly, like a human heart. Rex's expression hardens. He reaches for the Crystal, touches it. Emerald energy flows out of it and into Rex's chest. A small shockwave emanates from the pair before they are engulfed in an emerald inferno]

  • Rex : Can it really exist? This Elysium? And the creator who's said to live there...

Azurda : A land of plenty, atop the World Tree... If such a place did exist, perhaps we could all live in peace. With no need for fighting.

Rex : Sure would be great... For everyone... even folks in Fonsett. If the divine Architect can see us now, I wonder what he thinks...

  • Rex : [First lines]  We really do need to buy ourselves a new depth probe. The ping was off by 150 peds to the east. That's not gonna fly.

Azurda : And what about the treasure, Rex? Was it in line with your expectations?

Rex : [Taking a crowbar towards the crate]  It seemed pretty solid. Didn't even have to reinforce it so much. Even with the labor costs, we should be able to turn a decent profit.

Azurda : Honestly it takes you two days to run a structural analysis. Yet somehow, you can gauge the profits in an instant?

Rex : Don't go rainin' on my parade, Gramps! You know I'm in the salvaging trade for the cash! A little business sense... goes a long... way! All right?

[Rex opens the crate and finds a Crustip inside!]

Rex : I didn't expect THAT! You been living in this thing, big guy?

  • Architect : SPOILER: Rex... What is it you desire?

Rex : What else? To stop Malos.

Architect : And if you succeed?

Rex : I'll punch him in his stupid face. And then... Probably get a drink with him or something. That's the sixth rule of the Salvager's Code. "First have a punch-out, then drink to forget. Once you've forgotten, the friendship's all set!" I'm not old enough to drink yet though...

    Architect : I see.

  • Mythra : [Illusions of Pyra and Mythra are speaking to Rex in his mind]  So forget us, Rex! For the sake of the world, abandon us.

Rex : [Whilst dueling Jin]  Abandon you? When you are injured, I feel your pain. When you feel pain, I feel the sorrow in your heart.

Malos : What the hell? Has he finally cracked?

Rex : You really think I can just stand by like this? And watch someone I love suffer?

Pyra : You can make it to Elysium! You can make it... with or without us. So, please...

Rex : What would be the point of that? Listen, I swore to you. We're going to Elysium together! That's a promise.

    Pyra : Rex...

    [Mythra covers her mouth]

Rex : I'm going to Elysium for you. I'm doing all of this for you.

[Rex knocks Jin back. He lowers his sword and closes his eyes]

Rex : We'll do it together! We'll find out together! We'll find our place in this world! Find out where we're headed... And see what our future holds. So believe me!

[Jin poses, preparing to charge in for the kill]

Rex : I won't let the world burn a second time! So Pyra, Mythra... Jooooiiiin meeeeee!

[while Rex is totally helpless, Jin charges and begins a fatal diagonal overhead slash]

  • Zeke : SPOILER: Why're we all here? I thought I was...

Architect : I merely wished to examine the shapes of your hearts.

    Rex : That voice...!You're...

Architect : My name is Klaus. The Architect of this world. I have watched over you all this time. I have seen your thoughts. Your desires. The things you have achieved.

Rex : So you did that, just now?

Architect : Yes. Those were not your present forms, but alternate possibilities. Your other selves that lie within. That is what I wanted to see.

Zeke : Our other selves? You mean we're all thinking stuff like that deep down? Was that how we really feel?

Nia : Then you saw it too?

Zeke : Looks like we were all shown the same kind of stuff. It creeped me out! What are you trying to prove?

Architect : ...Those were the fears you harbor...

Zeke : I don't get it at all!

Dromarch : What was your purpose in showing us this? Those were not pleasant visions to behold.

Architect : My only purpose... was to find out... how mankind has changed... and where it is headed.

Morag : And were you disappointed?

Architect : No. As you stand before me right now... That is who you are. That is enough.

Rex : Architect, sir... I came here because I met Pyra. Is this really Elysium? Are you really...

Architect : I will show you everything. Memories... mine, and those of this planet.

  • Rex : [voice-over as Rex prepares lunch on Gramps' back]  An entire horizon of white. A sea of clouds, and at its heart, the World Tree, piercing the heavens... This... This is the world we call home. Alrest. Story goes that when the world was young, everyone in Alrest lived on the Tree, together with our divine father, the Architect. According to the tales, it was a bountiful land. And the people there held the power to command even the heavens themselves. They called that paradise... Elysium. But then, one day... we were cast out. Nobody knows why. Perhaps we angered our creator, or perhaps it was something else entirely... All we know is, we were forced to leave Elysium to live here, in Alrest. Where, it turns out, life was pretty hard. But, when it seemed like we would surely die out, the Architect... took pity on us... sending his servants, the Titans, to save us. The few of us who survived settled on the Titans... and we've lived in harmony with them ever since. But now, those Titans...

    [sigh]

Rex : are beginning to die out.

  • Architect : I will show you everything. Memories... Mine, and those of this planet.

[we see the flashback to the Experiment]

Architect : This world was once the stage... of a struggle for survival that dwarfed this current predicament. The world was an unseemly place, though glimpses of beauty persisted. What should people for? Who should they live for...? They live for themselves. To harbor desires and struggle to realize them - that is the natural state of man. But I did not think that was good enough. I lost hope for mankind. I searched tirelessly for an outside solution. And one day, I found it. The Conduit. Why it chose to appear before us, I do not know. however, its existence presented a new possibility...

    Rex : Possibility?

Architect : Our world was not the only one. Endless universes coexist side by side, yet all completely unaware of one another. The Conduit was our link to these foreign worlds... And I opened that forbidden gateway... praying that it would change the world.

    [flashback ends]

Architect : You have seen the plain called Morytha, have you not? That is what remains of my world. When I opened the Conduit, many people and things... disappeared, into distant dimensions. All that remained here were the ruins of Morytha... and half of my body.

    Rex : Your... body...

Architect : Half of me lives on in some other dimension. But... not for much longer.

Morag : What do you mean?

Architect : The moment of my other self's demise draws near.

    Pyra : Father, you...

Architect : I was a fool. Because of my foolishness, I lost everything. Left here, alone and broken, I longed for oblivion... But even that eluded me. This is my punishment... Retribution from on high, for the sin I have committed.

    Rex : On high...?

Architect : There was only one thing I could do... I had to atone for my sin. I swore to restore this world.

[he casts an illusion to give the party a visual aid]

Architect : The first thing I created... was a special particulate substance with the ability to restore deteriorated matter. You all know it as the Cloud Sea. The Cloud Sea can disassemble matter it comes in contact with, and rebuild it in the image of all the things that once made up this world. This way, little by little I could rebuild the world I had brought to ruin... Next, I began to recreate life. I gathered miniature vessels containing memories of all this planet's former lifeforms, and I scattered them across the Cloud Sea. These are the Core Crystals. The Crystals bonded with the Cloud Sea's particulate reconstructors... and formed the nuclei of new life.

[we see an evolutionary tree of Titans shaped like the World Tree]

Architect : Those nuclei developed into minute lifeforms - the Titans - who would over time grow larger and larger. Finally, The Titans gave birth to complex organisms, based on the data in their Core Crystals. This newly-birthed life, over untold millennia... evolved into a new breed of mankind.

    [the illusion disappears]

Morag : So that's how we came to live in this world...

Architect : But I did not trust this world, born as it had been. What if it were to repeat our mistakes? What if someone like me appearred? To stave off these doubts, I implemented one final measure. And so the Blades were born.

    [the illusion reappears]

Architect : Ontos, Logos, and Pneuma... the three cores of the Trinity Processor formed their cornerstone. However, Ontos triggered a space-time transition event, and it disappeared forever. I was left with the other two, Logos and Pneuma, entrusting them with managing the Blades.

    [the illusion disappears]

Architect : Malos and Pyra... those are the names that you now know them under.

Pyra : So, I am... Pneuma...

    Dromarch : 'Managing'?

Architect : The Core Crystals at the heart of each Blade are tasked with relaying all kinds of information to Logos and Pneuma...

[we see Lora, Haze, Addam, and Mythra hanging out during the Aegis War]

Architect : About the selection pressures of the outside world, and the biological status of their bonded human,

[we see Lora and Jin, then Vandham, then Rex holding Roc's Core Crystal]

Architect : but also the experiences and emotions they share. As the data continually accrues,

[we see Jac resonating with Yachik in Torigoth]

Architect : new evolutionary data is sent back to the Core Crystals, and this code is used to create new, further evolved Blades. These Blades, too, become Titans in time, and create new generations of lifeforms...

[we see Sever, then Vandham holding Wulfric's Core Crystal]

Architect : This was the new circle of life I had created.

    [the illusion disappears yet again]

Azurda : A grand scheme... It boggles the mind a tad.

Rex : So we were all born from this endless cycle of life... To replace the victims of the previous world.

Architect : That's right. But there were also a handful of survivors. I believe you saw them when you were in Morytha. The unfortunate ones who clung to life...

[we see Infernal Guldo's corpse, then Rex holding Galea's ID badge]

Rex : You mean those monsters... Were they... originally people?

Architect : Core Crystals were first conceived as a replacement for human brain cells. A product of mankind's age-old quest for immortality.

Morag : And that's what became of them...? How awful.

Architect : But that technology became the starting point for the creation of Blades and Titans.

Azurda : So in one sense, their sacrifice was not in vain... Though not all may see it as such.

Dromarch : So, tell us. In the end... Did we develop as you had hoped?

Architect : What do you think?

    Dromarch : I... couldn't possibly...

Architect : Well, those phantasms which you all experienced earlier... Those are feelings that lurk in all of your hearts... .As well as that man, Amalthus's...

[we see flashbacks of Amalthus' life]

Architect : When a person loses something, they cannot help but seek a reason why. Within themselves, or in others... They seek a concrete answer to the question

[we see Klaus talking to and throwing Galea during the Experiment]

Architect : of who they really are, deep inside. Such a very lonely existence...

[we see Lora take an energy blast for Jin during the Aegis War, who picks her up]

Architect : But perhaps that is what it is to be human... All this data passed through me, and I knew. All of you... You were not in any way different from us, before. That's why I did not intervene... 500 years ago, when the man finally arrived here... I did nothing when he took away Logos and Pneuma. I stood and watched as Logos, instantiated into Blade form, set out to purge the world.

Rex : You don't make sense! Didn't you go to all that trouble to rebuild it? Then why would you...

    Architect : It is fate.

    Rex : Fate?

Architect : It is fated to happen. It cannot but happen. My atonement was doomed from the start.

    Pyra : That can't be...

Architect : I had made my peace with it. Once more, I longed for nothing more than to disappear. However... Something has now changed. And that is you, Rex. You and Pneuma.

Rex : Me and... Pyra and Mythra...?

Architect : You reforged your bond in a way I had not thought possible. And the life you share...

[we see a flashback to Pyra's Core Crystal and the section that Rex carries]

Architect : Moreover... The Conduit, which fell into a stubborn silence after the world's end, has begun stirring once more. Rex... The power you and Pneuma exercise is the Conduit's power. It comes leaking out of some far-flung dimension. And it is a power we can know nothing about. But with its help... The world may be about to change.

[we see what's happening outside: three Sirens shoot lasers at Alrest, causing the World Tree to shake]

Rex : What's all this shaking-?

Architect : It is Logos... Malos, trying to destroy this world and everything in it.

    Rex : What?

  • Rex : [Outside, three Sirens shoot lasers at Alrest]  What's all this shaking-?

Architect : It is Logos... Malos, trying to destroy this world and everything in it.

    Rex : What?

Architect : Remember, at heart he is but an information processing unit, neither good nor evil. He is driven by a certain impulse... The despair that the man names Amalthus felt.

Rex : I see... So it was right. What I felt back then, I mean.

    Pyra : Rex...

Architect : Rex...

Architect : I see... Pneuma... No, I should call you Pyra and Mythra.

    Pyra : What is it?

Architect : I want to apologize, for having burdened you with all this.

    Pyra : Don't worry. We're actually grateful.

    [she walks towards the Architect]

Pyra : Thanks to you, Father, we got to meet Rex and everyone else. Those are cherished memories.

[the Architect extends his arm and Pyra transforms into Pneuma]

    Pneuma : Father...

Architect : I have transferred all of Elysium's data and authorizations to you. Make me proud.

    Pneuma : We will.

    Architect : Rex.

    Rex : Yes?

Architect : I will disappear soon. When I do, the Conduit will likely disappear from this world. You will not be able to use your power forever.

    [we see the Conduit]

Rex : I understand. We'll make do somehow.

Architect : I'm counting on you...

[Pneuma turns towards the Architect before running to the exit. The party follows. Rex stops and turns back to him]

Rex : Klaus! Have you changed your mind about this world?

Architect : Right now... I think I am glad I met you all.

Rex : Got it... Then our answers match! Thank you for giving us all life.

[the Architect exhales in surprise. The party turns back around and continues running. The camera enters slow motion, focusing on Rex's back]

Architect : Perhaps... Perhaps I will be able to face you again... Galea...

  • Rex : So Pyra, Mythra... Jooooiiiin meeeeee!

[while Rex is totally helpless, Jin charges and begins a fatal diagonal overhead slash. We fade to white, and Rex finds himself in an illusion of the Aion Hangar with Pyra and Mythra]

Pyra : This is our whole being. This is the power we were granted at birth.

Mythra : So, Rex... Are you still sure you want this?

Rex : Tell me, do you love this world?

Pyra : ...Yes. Nia, Azurda... and you, Rex... I love this world because you're in it!

Rex : [Rex nods]  Well then!

[he extends his arms. Pyra and Mythra exchange a glance before taking his hands]

Jin : [Back in the real world, an emerald Core Crystal appears, hovering in front of Rex]  Wh-what? How?

    Rex : Hyaaaah!

["Counterattack" by Kenji Hiramatsu starts playing. The Core Crystal transforms into the third Aegis Sword as Rex grabs the handle. A rush of power pushes Jin back]

    Jin : Ugh!

[as Jin looks on, the third Aegis Sword finishes materializing, and Rex points it towards his right and at the ground, posing heroically]

    Malos : A new sword?

[suddenly, Pyra is hovering behind Rex. Yellowish-white light envelops her, flashing and fading to reveal a woman with aqua hair in a long ponytail. Her armor is silver and black with aqua and sapphire blue accents, with gold on the fronts of her boots. Futuristic "wings" materialize and hover behind her, sharing their color scheme with her armor, but being tipped with blades of aqua ether energy. She leans back before landing on the ground. Greek writing on her bosom identifies this new form as Pneuma before she smiles and finally opens her aqua eyes]

Rex : [Rex turns to Pneuma, relieved]  Pyra! Mythra!

Pneuma : Apologies, Rex. Worry not. All is well. I am lost... no longer.

[she raises a hand and points it at Rex, whose Salvager Suit is also enveloped in yellowish white light. The light recedes to reveal another new outfit, which matches Pneuma's perfectly; the armor of the Master Driver]

    Rex : What's this?

Pneuma : Ah, that's better, don't you think?

    [smiles adorably]

Rex : I could get used to this!

[turns back to the battle and does the same pose again]

    Rex : Everyone! Attack!

    Zeke : Yeah!

    Nia : Payback time!

[Rex shifts to his standard battle stance; the third Aegis Sword's blade is behind its back while its hilt is held to his right side. The camera zooms out, the song ends, and we fade to black]
