Martin Scorsee and Leonardo DiCaprio’s adaptation of “The Devil in the White City,” based on Erik Larson’s 2003 book about the notorious real-life 19th-century serial killer, is no longer moving forward at Hulu, multiple sources reported on Monday.
It’s the latest no-go for the project in a nearly 20-year attempt to bring it to the screen. The most recent version had Keanu Reeves set to star as visionary architect Daniel H. Burnham, but once “Tár” director Todd Field exited in October, so did Reeves.
No casting was announced for the title role of Dr. H. H. Holmes, who is considered America’s first modern serial killer. He slaughtered guests who were attending the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair in his diabolical “Murder Castle.” The horrific true story inspired a 2006 episode of “Supernatural.”

Supermassive Games has recently announced that the latest entry in The Dark Pictures Anthology: The Devil in Me will be released on November 18, 2022. In addition to the recent announcement, I had the chance to preview some gameplay footage, as well as hear from Game Director, Tom Heaton, about the inspirations and influences that impacted the development of the game. Referred to as “the season one finale of the anthology”, The Devil in Me already looks to be an amalgamation of lessons learned from previous entries in the anthology and feedback from its playerbase, and the preview has left me eager to dive back into The Dark Pictures come November.
The premise this time around isn’t focused so much on a specific event in history or mythology, but draws inspiration upon a specific historic figure: H.H. Holmes. For those unfamiliar, Holmes is one of the most notorious serial killers in modern history,...

Exclusive: Bestselling author Erik Larson has signed with UTA. His books have been catnip for movies and TV, and UTA will broker those deals. His bestseller The Devil In The White City was recently set as a Hulu/Paramount TV series with Martin Scorsese exec producing with Leonardo DiCaprio and his Appian Way. That book is the true story of two men, an architect and a serial killer, whose fates were forever linked by The Chicago World’s Fair of 1893. Daniel H. Burnham, a brilliant and fastidious architect racing to make his mark on the world is on one side and then there is Henry H. Holmes, a handsome and cunning doctor who fashioned his own pharmaceutical “Murder Castle” on fair grounds – a palace built to seduce, torture and mutilate young women. The story takes the viewer on a tour of murder, romance and mystery in the advent of a gilded age.

Long-term collaborators Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese’s feature-length adaptation ‘The Devil in the White City’ has changed formats and will now be turned into an event series.
The project, which has been in development since as far back as 2003, is an adaptation of Erik Larson’s famed book of the same name. The story is set against the backdrop of the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair, the series tells the intertwining stories of the fair architect Daniel H. Burnham and serial killer H.H. Holmes, a charming sociopath who lured his victims to their deaths in his elaborately constructed “Murder Castle”.
Based on real characters and events, the book is divided into four parts with the first three parts focusing on Chicago between 1890 and 1893 and the fourth in Philadelphia around 1895. The layout of the story is much better placed as a series than a feature-length production.

Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese are bringing their talents to Hulu. The longtime collaborators are developing a series adaptation of Erik Larson‘s best-selling book “The Devil in the White City,” Craig Erwich, Hulu’s Svp of originals, announced Monday at the Television Critics Association press tour.
Erwich did not provide any more details, except that it will be produced by Paramount TV.
DiCaprio and Scorsese, who will serve as executive producers, had been trying to bring the thriller to the big screen for a decade, with the former having acquired the rights to the book in 2010 (Tom Cruise had first acquired the rights in 2003). It’s unclear if DiCaprio will also act in the project, as was originally planned for the film version.

Erik Larson’s “The Devil in the White City” is the kind of book that always seemed destined to land on screen. Now, the long-gestating adaptation shepherded by Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio has found a new home at Hulu. The network announced today that it would be partnering with Paramount TV to develop Larson’s novel into a series, the latest step in a decade-long process to make a filmed adaptation of the book.
Monday’s announcement describes the basis for the new project as “the spellbinding and chilling true story of two men, an architect and a serial killer, whose fates were forever linked by The Chicago World’s Fair of 1893. Each embodying American ingenuity at the dawn of the 20th century – Daniel H. Burnham, a brilliant and fastidious architect racing to make his mark on the world and Henry H.
