A brilliant little short!
charlesmathieson3 December 2017
Martin Stock's Toll Booth is an excellent and exceptionally British Horror Story. It does an incredible balancing act of being both unnerving and creepy whilst also delivering solid laughs.

The performance from lead Andrew Shire, ties it all together brilliantly, and you're always kept on the edge of your seat by the assured direction.

A great Short, Well worth a watch.

Quirky, sinister, entertaining short film

Warning: Spoilers
'Toll Booth' by Martin Stocks is a wonderfully quirky, sinister and wholly entertaining short film. The overall darkness of the film from start to finish certainly plays tricks on your mind, and even without the wonderfully suspense-filled score, spooky dreams, unsettling stories of toll booth visitors and jump scares of the climax you're on the edge of your seat. Andrew Shire's experienced toll booth worker Terry, is a very compelling watch and you're right there with him throughout: expecting the worst, contemplating what on earth happened to the previous toll booth worker, and wondering whether his pay is worth the spine-chilling job. The comedy of the scenario is played perfectly too. Well written, well directed, well performed. Congratulations to the team involved. Would love to see this character/concept in a 'Hot Fuzz'-ian horror comedy feature.

This is an outstanding first short from Martin Stocks. Written, Directed and Produced by the boy wonder. Well worth the copious amounts of awards it has gained. Looking forward to a potential feature film.

I'm getting into short films lately and I REALLY enjoyed this one. Funny, eerie and leaves me wanting more. Perfect! Great lead in Andrew Shire and I'm sure we'll be seeing much more from him in the future too. If Martin and Andrew continue their collaboration I'm sure they'll be looking at big things fast. Great work all!

Weird, creepy and atmospheric

An excellent little British short film. Minimal resources used to great effect. A guy turns up for his first night shift manning the toll booth. Slowly things start to get weird. Perfectly paced to inflict enough eeriness to get the spine nerve a tingling. A convincing performance by the lead, who convincingly portrays a man losing his touch on reality. Stocks is learning his craft quickly, with a few shorts now under his belt. One shot, a homage to Kubrick's The Shining, is excellently nailed. For a second there I thought it was actually Jack Nicholson cut into the movie.
