Great movie
vs-4673111 January 2019
Looks like Cambridge analytica of Congress has activated it's bots. Many are responding here with 1 star and same ctrl+c ctrl+v description. It's not a masala entertainer, go and watch if you want to know the workings of PMO and how anm dynasty controls power irrespective of who rules the nation. Acting of Akshay Khanna and Anupam Kher is class apart.

Disappointed with direction.
shashwatgkp13 January 2019
First part seemed more like comedy but still it was quite good to tell about politics in India. Second half told about character of our former PM. Overall ,I felt sad for former PM after watching this movie and kind of felt story was incomplete.

Boring.....
kunaldalmia315 February 2019
Movie has good premise amazing actor like akshay and anupam kher but the biggest drawback is screenplay Movie is boring to the point that's it became difficult to pass 1.45 hr Director has nt touched controversial part and try to play safe in fear of ban by court Movie could be breakthrough in indian cinema if it followed hollywood documentary style entertaining as well as informative. All the important scene has been already shown by movie maker in trailer . There is nothing much left to watch wastage of money and time movie deserves 3 star out of 10, additional 2 star are for acting of akshay and anupam

Never knew someone could make such a movie with so much details. Even though it's not tarnishing anyone image, but it's such a bad phase India has gone through. Must watch for everyone in India.hats off to Anupam Kher, no one can replace him.

A bit slow Fiction
nitesh-1459811 January 2019
Pros : * The acting of Anupan Kher and Akshay Khanna was fabulous. * It get us into the Picture of 2004 era and remind us some of the incidents. * The movie doesn't seem harming any characters.

Cons : * Quite a slow movie, one can get bore till intervel. * People expected a some mirch masala from the past but none of the incidents clearly deacribed in the movie. * Trailer is a bit eye catching but the movie has not got any charm. * It is just a chit chat between press and the chairpersons.

Honest attempt to showcase the tenure of Manmohan Singh with political PoV.
prafullasrivastav13 January 2019
Direction: Biography genre is difficult one because execution matters a lot. Debutant director Vijay Ratnakar Gutte failed to impress the audience in this political drama.

Performance: Anupam Kher is the USP of this political drama. He try to mimic walking & talking style and copy the look of Manmohan Singh with so ease. Another great performance from Akshaye Khanna as Sanjaya Baru. Suzanne Bernert and Arjun Mathur tried to recreate Sonia and Rahul Gandhi on screen as Suzanne with typical Sonia's accent and Arjun with Rahul's dumbness. Vipin Sharma looks good in role of Ahmed Patel. Ram Avtar is originally a tea seller who played perfect role of Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Screenplay: This department is another disappointment for the audience. Like for any book, writer always want his reader will turn the page with full of curiosity. So same logic apply on screenplay as well. If there is sharp screenplay, audience feel connect with movie however screenplay was pathetic in this movie.

Script: Story-line is totally borrow from Sanjaya Baru's same name book. So there is no scope for modification or add new thing in the script.

Box_office: This political drama earned 4.5 crores on day 1 which is decent opening for biography genre. On day 2, it has earned 5.25 crores which show good growth. This movie is second choice for audience after Uri.

Last words: This is not propaganda film or BJP sponsored film. If you are bored with Romance and Action genre, please try this.

Anupam Kher Lost his Credibility
ramhindulol17 November 2020
Cheap labor IT cell of Alt Right wing gave too many 10 star reviews for this less than mediocre movie with mediocre acting. Manmohan Singh is the architect of modern economy of India of which most of these hindutva bhakts are reaping benefits of today. Its a shame that majority of India are foolishly supporting religious based tuglaq kind of "leaders" who did nothing but tarnishing the image and economy of the country that was built by previous governments. One of the stupidest depictions and ridiculous acting I've seen in the recent times. Now 2 rupees IT cell workers, go say no to my review and take it to the bottom.

Honest Biopic ever made! Akshaye Khanna breaks the 4th wall as well the Congress party, Kher was impeccable
tulipwoodland11 January 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Based on the controversial book of Sanjaya Baru of the same name The accidental Prime Minister experiments through breaking the fourth wall as the narrator of the film played by Akshay interacts with the audiences explaining them every scene of the internal politics was well executed. Mr Kher has done justice to Dr Sabah's character and the replication is top notch. The tone of the film is comical and we do laugh loud at the Congress party. In the times when manipulative films like Sanju gross 300 cr this honest film won't earn much but will get under your skin as it's a reality check on the ones who have dominated the country imposing the left ideology. The whole film is about

DR MANMOHAN SINGH VS THE LEFTIST

Enjoy this one political drama fans

Movie was blunt
dcekaran12 January 2019
Movie was created to defame Congress before 2019 general elections, but movie was unable to portray closely on the corruption that took place during UPA-2, the Sharpe edges of the movie was made blunt due to interference of congress out of which it has lost its sharpness. It just gave an overview on the subject, it will cause no difference to the viewer who have a fair idea about the politics In some ways it will go in the favour of Congress as the screened movie for general public will get to know more about the values Dr Manmohan Singh brought in, also as everyone knows it is a political stunt by BJP before elections, BJP will get its return gift for its negative propoganda.

Insipid fare
kartikeyamitra12 January 2019
What an insipid fare. Anupam kher hams his way through the movie which is just a string of disjoint events. The entire goal is to paint a bunch of folks in poor light, but it doesn't even do a convincing job. All in all, it isn't worth a watch. Instead, watch your plants grow; it's more interesting with better acting.

Poorly made film
meerakalam16 January 2019
The strong acting by Akshay Khanna in the negative role who looks like hero of the film. amazing! Story is, no doubt, penned to show the views and unwanted imaginations to satisfy some group of people. I remember LK Advani's, who was very close to the writer, campaigning in 2009 LS elections abusing Dr. MS traveling all over India. (look back his interviews, mostly in flight). Most of the Indians admire Dr. MS as the intelligent PM ever ruled our country. He was not a weak as shown in the movie but he was respecting the high political office that people elected. About film, it is a poorly directed movie having no artistic elements in it. Photography is ridiculous and Anupam Kher's portray as PM was a shame to his own fans and good film lovers. I have never ever seen the exPM was walking like a physically challenged patient bending his hands frontward. Voice dubbing is also in bad taste. Suzanne acted and gave voice somewhat perfectly to suit Sonia's Hindi speaking style. The film was like a stage play with some local performers.

Great movie
shivamd-6365911 January 2019
One of the best films in recent times on Political subject. Since the movie is based on Sanjay Baru's book, won't comment on the content however it is true that the incidents recorded in book are facts. Anupam Kher has played perhaps the best role of his life. Akshay Khanna was also good. The surprise package is Suzzane Bernert who played Sonia Gandhi. Her dialogue delivery was flawless and is literally comparable to real life Sonia Gandhi.

good one
visnupriya15 August 2021
The acting of both akshay and anupam kher was good as always. Everyone should watch this movie once so that they can understand DR. Manmohan Singh as a PM or it will give you idea about his character as a leader and person which is a good thing.

Mediocre, OK for a one-time watch.
Amyth4721 August 2019
My Rating : 4/10

Too slow and gets very boring and annoying.

Good for a one-time viewing.

Akshaye Khanna is his usual well-groomed and entertaining self and Anupam Kher is funny as hell as Manmohan Singh.

Little India Directory Review: The Accidental Prime Minister (6 Stars)
nairtejas12 January 2019
"I hope the future does not see my history through the eyes of the media," says Dr. Manmohan Singh as he signs off a press conference corresponding to the end of his ten-year-long, two-term tenure as the Prime Minister of India. So starts the ending of the concise retelling of Singh's time from the eyes of his former advisor, close aide, and journalist Sanjaya Baru in this crisp little, comical biopic that puts the central character in focus while helping its viewers brush up on Indian polity of the 2000s decade.

The talented Anupam Kher restrains himself and his talents from coming out completely as he plays the titular role of Singh who is chosen as the PM of India under the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government in 2004 by party chairperson Sonia Gandhi (Suzanne Bernert) after having given a hint by the 'junta' at large that a person with Italian roots will not be welcomed with open arms in a sensitive country like India. But that's a good thing that he restrains himself because there's hardly any other way to play Singh, a shy, taciturn yet stupendously talented finance person, who is thrown into the ring of politics without much thought or self-assurance. The Accidental Prime Minister goes on to emphasize this a lot of times as it takes a novel approach at narration, thankfully comically, through the eyes of his then media advisor Baru (Akshaye Khanna). Why I enjoyed debutante Vijay Ratnakar Gutte's biographical drama despite it being about politics (not a personal favourite) is because Baru and his co-characters often break the fourth wall in the film. It could be alleged that this idea was borrowed from a popular American web show, but it still made for a fascinating two hours, as I often found myself waiting for Khanna to talk to me.

The occasional digs at certain characters, most essentially Rahul Gandhi (Arjun Mathur), also helps The Accidental Prime Minister stray away from being a serious political drama. It can be best perceived as a commentary on the Indian democracy seen from the eyes of a journalist who promises to be objective. And I believe director Gutte because even though the screenplay (adapted from Baru's book of the same name as the title of film) by him and his three co-writers does not potentially demand it, he chooses to show real media feeds of most politicians as recorded by history. There are montages that show these actual persons talk politics during Singh's term and that just elevates the appeal the film has on you regardless of which side you are on (if you follow or are affected by Indian politics).

However, save for Kher and Khanna's fantastic performance and the apt, melodious score (without a single track) that it carries itself on, the film does go too far as it tries to don the "I'm a cool film" hat and overdoes its fourth wall stunt. The jesting first-person narrative gets tired after a while, which is also when things start to become less interesting. What was going to be a chronological narration of Singh's life as PM turns into a real drama that you nowadays see in TRP-loving television news channels. The Accidental Prime Minister does not try to paint a rosy picture of the UPA government; it just tries to exonerate Singh for not acting up, as Baru constantly reminds us in the film. I could even go ahead and say that it is more a film on Baru, and that may be true if you measure the total words spoken by either character. How Singh was a victim of party politics is the highlight of the film and it is up to individual viewer if they want to digest that. The journey, as I have noted, is interesting to see unfold.

There is nothing extraordinary in The Accidental Prime Minister except for how it has been narrated, but I would still recommend it to you because it is at least slightly better than the countless hagiographic biopics we have seen in Bollywood in the past two years alone. This one here is at least honest and occasionally funny. TN.

Indian house of cards gone bad.
abde199512 January 2019
This political agenda did not reach expectations. First half seems OK, but second half tries to make Gandhi family villains. Background music meh, screen play meh, direction is worst. Only good thing about this move is akhay Khanna. Now I am understand why this movie released before genaral elections in INDIA. remember time always goes forward. Not stays.

After watching the trailer, this film surely disappoints; Akshay Khanna and Production/Set Design, shine and outstand in this mediocre film with poor direction and screenplay.
manubhatt311 January 2019
The great expectations you might have developed after watching the trailer, will surely be let down in this film. The film is perfectly mediocre and somewhat unsubtle, but with excellent performance by Akshay Khanna and, Production and Set Designers.

The film might have been made very well with in the hands of a good director. I have not read the book so I can't say very surely but it does seem like that there were huge flaws in adapting Baru's book into a film's screenplay. The result ? The film becomes boring to watch after a while; if the screenplay was written better, this could have been much more interesting and thrilling to watch!

The film is so unsubtle, it's message so obvious - given to the viewers ready and cooked on a plate, the characters so one dimensional - that it starts to seem like a borderline propaganda film.

Anupam Kher's acting also doesn't seem very good, inspiring or exceptional. However, given that he portrays someone who is so difficult to emulate and portray, I won't judge him too harshly.

The positives are that the film will surely be somewhat informative for the general public, to varying degrees, depending upon how much one already knows how the PMO and related politics works, AND also that this is somewhat a first film of it's kind in India.

As a side note - Akshay Khanna's good acting should come as no surprise. The man has not acted bad in even one film, and is the most underrated actor in the industry. I don't know why some good directors of the industry don't work with him.

On a lighter and comic note - For whoever has watched Dhinchak Pooja's song "Daru Daru Daru", I will like to dedicate below song to this film's source 'Sanjay Baru' :-

Baru Baru Baru Oye !

Baru Baru Baru Oye !

Baru Baru Baru Oye !

Jo Na Chhaape Usko Maroon..!

Horrible in every manner!!
harnoor_51712 January 2019
Anupam Kher who claimed that he deserves an Oscar for this film is so wrong! He has mimicked Manmohan Singh and nothing more than that. You don't call this an act. It's like a flop comedian trying to act in an episode of Comedy Circus. More than that, this film is weak in everything. Story, Content, Performances, Direction and whatever other than these factors. Rather than wasting time and money on this movie, go watch Uri. This movie is the biggest accident of this decade. Anupam Kher's career is dead after this.
