Homo Sapien 2.0

An element of the AI debate is in regard to humans retaining control of their creation. Science fiction writer Isaac Asimov, in his 1941 short story "Runaround" (later included in the 1950 compilation, "I, Robot") postulated three laws that would be required to control AI. These laws are: 1) A robot may not harm a human being or through inaction allow a human being to come to harm; 2) A robot must obey the orders of a human being except where they come into conflict with the First Rule; 3) A robot must protect its own existence except where it comes into conflict with the First or the Second Rule. The movie Io, robot (2004) explores the human fallibility in designing laws to control AI.
