Well-Written, Surreal, and Terrifying

Cream by David Firth is one of the finest internet videos I have ever discovered, mainly because of its spot-on message and disgustingly beautiful visuals. Ironically, it describes how life could be dependant on our actions. I love it.

When greed destroys hope Warning: Spoilers
Of all the animations made by David Firth, this might be the most accessible one.

Sure, it does its share of weirdness, but in general lines, the plot is quite easy to understand, with a message delivered in a pretty straighforward manner.

Despite its humorous tone, Cream is a very cynical tale about how the rich and powerful will do anything in order to perpetuate the status quo, being even willing to screw things for everyone as long they are allowed to keep their privileges, with people always falling for their dirty tricks.

Cream might not be a real thing, but if it was, things probably would have turned out as in this short.

Billionaries and corporate overlords are not our friends. They never were, and they never will, no matter how "friendly" they might seem on their social media profiles.

tragic, insightful, and mindbending satire

Warning: Spoilers
David Firth has blown me away time and time again, proving himself to be one of the best filmmakers today despite being quite underground and mostly just publishing his works through the internet. Firth has taken full advantage of the modern YouTube platform by showing that important art can now be made and spread through use of practically any video sharing website; sort of a miracle if you ask me. Over the years, Firth's animations have consistently been hilarious, disturbing, and provocative, and "Cream", his magnificent latest effort, is no disappointment. One could say it is the CREAM OF THE CROP in terms of Firth's films. Alright, that is enough of that, let's just review the short.

This short work of animation cleverly combines mood and genre to almost flawlessly mock modern society. It's stylistic animation works well as a sharp contrast to the simultaneously surrealistic and realistic concept. What if there was a cream that had the potential to fix all problems? In the short, this cream manages to terminate the forces of death, war, famine, and all else that is evil in the world. It educates and creates, constantly improving on the world and its people...but not for long. Due to money now becoming obsolete, certain members of society would rather not deal with this heroic substance, and seek to demonize it through the media. And, thus, the short's unapologetic tragicomedy and satire ensues. The short is a haunting reflection of the greed and lust for power that consumes our world through media manipulation. Firth's sense of black comedy never holds back despite depressing material, but his sense of sadness doesn't hold back either. The end result is one that is funny, sad, scary, and thought provoking. Firth has done it again, and i cannot wait to see what the rest of his animation career has in store for us all!

Irony

A parable. Cruel , precise, maybe, too realistic. The message is more important than the animation itself. Because it propose a simple portrait of an old desire transformed in fact and the twist, not explained, but with obvious familiar roots. So, ironic portrait of near reality.

Not among the crème de la crème of 2016

Warning: Spoilers
"Cream" is a British English-language short film that premiered last year in 2016, but did not really reach wide audiences until earlier this year when writer, director and voice actor David Firth uploaded this 10-minute movie (12 with credits) on Youtube and it quickly surpassed the 1 million click mark. So you can probably call it a success. I wouldn't say so in terms of the quality. I personally did not like the animation style and it looked cheap to me, but that is just subjective perception. The voice acting overall was tolerable, nothing more. The film was decent until they included plot twists like everybody being against this miraculous cream all of a sudden. But the worst is probably people who genuinely believe there is smart and in-depth social commentary in here. I assume these are also the people who see themselves as smart and deep. The film is shocking for the sake of it and never really manages at all to get beyond the surface in its story-telling approach. It's loud, obnoxious and has low production values. 2 stars out of 5 is really generous here in my opinion. Don't watch.
