This film wrapped principle photography on Friday, March 13, 2020.
Writer/Director Stephen M. Miller and Writer/Producer Scott W. Fitzgerald vowed to make their first feature film before they turned 50. Steve turned 50 in December of 2019 just 3 months before wrapping production. Scott will not be 50 until 2023.
Sky Sands was cast as Professor Robertson shortly before production began in September 2019. Other actors who were approached for the role were Chris Kattan, Colin Mochrie and John C. Reilly.
In the scene after Steve (Alex Packard) meet's Cindy's (Melodie Roehrig) Uncle Zeke (Jeremy London), Cindy says "he wasn't supposed to be here today". At one point, Brian O'Halloran (Clerks) was going to play the role of Uncle Zeke and that line was a shout out to Clerks (1994). Instead the role went to Jeremy London but the line stayed in as a tip of the hat to the movie that inspired Steve Miller to write Bottom Feeders.
