On Wednesday, a host of musicians came together to honor late Irish legends Shane MacGowan and Sinead O’Connor with a tribute concert at Carnegie Hall in New York City.
Most notably, O’Connor’s daughter, Roisin Waters, paid tribute to her mother with a stirring performance of “Nothing Compares 2 U.”
The concert also saw Bettye Lavette sing “I Do Not Want What I Haven’t Got,” Cat Power put her spin on “The Body of an American,” and Resistance Revival Chorus cover “Thank You for Hearing Me,” among other performances of O’Connor’s music. Additionally, Glen Hansard and Imelda May teamed up to perform MacGowan and O’Connor’s duet “Haunted.”
Among the artists who covered songs by MacGowan and his band The Pogues were Violent Femmes’ Gordon Gano (“A Pair of Brown Eyes”), Gogol Bordello’s Eugene Hütz (“The Church of Holy Spook”), Billy Bragg, The Hold Steady...

There have been several PlayStation remakes of popular classic games in recent years, and there will be more in the upcoming year, but sadly, none of them will be Killzone titles. A leaker has claimed that despite several remakes being in the works, Killzone fans will be left empty-handed.

Anyone active on X (formerly Twitter) since its acquisition by Elon Musk in late 2022 knows that hate speech, misinformation and extremism is rampant on the platform. At this point, such toxic content is simply the price of admission. But a new report from the Tech Transparency Project, a digital research nonprofit, reveals that terrorist leaders received paid verification badges and premium features on the site, possibly violating U.S. sanctions — as well as X’s own policies.

Muse performed a revised setlist in Malaysia one week after the country’s government prematurely canceled a performance by The 1975.
The revision was announced via concert promoter Hello Universe ahead of Muse’s show on July 29th at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium as part of their ongoing “Will of the People” world tour. Concert organizer Adam Ashraf told Rojak Daily, “They called us shortly after [The 1975] incident went global. After discussions, they decided to pull one song out of the setlist due to the title of the song. It’s nice to know they’re eager to entertain while also respecting the guidelines.”
Muse ended up swapping out “We Are Fucking Fucked,” from their 2022 LP Will of the People, and replacing it with “Resistance,” from 2009’s The Resistance.

As Black History Month comes to a close, MSNBC has continued its streak as the No. 1 most-watched cable network among Black Americans in February, a title the network has maintained for 25 consecutive months and that “The Saturday Show” and “The Sunday Show” host Jonathan Capehart attributed to the network’s diverse on-air voices and inclusive reporting.
“Black viewers can see themselves reflected back at them not just in the anchor chair when it comes to, me, Joy Reid, Reverend Al [Sharpton], Symone [Sanders-Townsend] or any of the other African American anchors, but also other anchors of color at the network,” Capehart told TheWrap. “The network covers the stories that are important to the American people at large, but stories that are of particular interest to the African American community.”

If you tuned into Star Wars Celebration last week hoping to get lots of updates on Lucasfilm’s upcoming slate of films set in the galaxy far, far away, you likely came away very disappointed. We learned virtually nothing new about the three films currently in development during the four-day conference in Anaheim. Instead, the Disney+ series were the real stars of the show, with The Mandalorian season 3, Andor, Ahsoka, The Bad Batch, and new animated series Tales of the Jedi taking top billing. There was even a new Star Wars video game announced over the weekend, but not a single thing about the medium that birthed the franchise in the first place.
What gives? Well, it’s no secret that things are a little hazy in terms of when we might actually get another Star Wars film. With Patty Jenkins’ Rogue Squadron film pushed out of its original Dec.

Generally speaking, video game sequels fare better than sequels in other mediums. Video games may be art, but they’re also technology. As technology improves and offers developers new ways to expand upon their old ideas (or explore new ones), video game sequels often show us how far we’ve come. It’s honestly not uncommon for a video game sequel to be substantially better than its predecessor.
For as celebrated as video game sequels often are, though, it’s not uncommon for one to fly under the radar. From very good games that had the misfortune of following beloved classics to great games that improved really bad ones that managed to stain the series’ name, there’s no shortage of reasons why a video game sequel may go overlooked or underappreciated. The one thing every underrated sequel shares is that they deserve a legacy of their own.

It’s mostly forgotten now, but the PlayStation 3 actually had an incredibly rocky launch. The console’s architecture initially made it difficult to develop for, early exclusives were underwhelming, and the $599 price tag (roughly $800 in 2021 dollars) for the top end launch model was just too rich for many gamers.
But with time, those issues faded away. The higher price tag, due in part to the then-novel Blu-ray disc drive, just meant games could be larger and more detailed than ever before. Developers quickly adapted to the console, and now the PS3 is just as fondly remembered as any other Sony console.
As we look back at the 15th anniversary of the PS3’s launch, it’s time to rank the 20 games that still stand out as the very best on the console:
20. LittleBigPlanet 2

LittleBigPlanet 2 is a solid platformer, but where the series has always shined is in its creation tools.

Production, finance and sales outfit Film Constellation is launching pre-sales on upcoming Samuel Beckett biopic “Dance First,” to be directed by James Marsh and to star Gabriel Byrne.
Marsh won an Academy Award for best documentary feature in 2009 with “Man on Wire,” and also directed the Stephen Hawking biopic “The Theory of Everything,” which earned five nominations at the 2015 Oscars, including best picture, and a best actor win for Eddie Redmayne.
Marsh will now be directing his gaze on the life of Beckett, the ground-breaking Irish writer. Titled after Beckett’s famous ethos on life “Dance first, think later,” the film is a sweeping account of the life of this icon of 20th-century literature.
Beckett lived a life of many parts: Parisian bon vivant, World War II Resistance fighter, Nobel Prize-winning playwright, philandering husband and recluse. But despite all the adulation that came his way he was a man acutely aware of his own failings.

Colette, directed by Anthony Giacchino and produced by Alice Doyard, was co-produced by Facebook-owned Oculus Studios and Electronic Arts’ Respawn Entertainment. The Guardian newspaper acquired and distributed the film, which tells a story out of World War II and the French Resistance. It is the first Oscar for Oculus and Respawn, as well as for The Guardian, according to a publicist for the film.
“I want to thank our amazing E.P., Peter Hirschmann, at Electronic Arts, everyone at Electronic Arts and Respawn,” Giacchino said during his acceptance speech, “and Oculus, especially Vince, Dusty and Mara.” He also saluted Charlie Phillips, head of video at The Guardian.
Colette is available as an add-on experience within EA’s Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond, a member of the filmmaking team tells Deadline.

Disney CEO Bob Chapek said Disneyland will open in “late April” — declining to give a specific date today but at least narrowing the window.
Under new state reopening guidelines released Friday by California public health officials, the park could have opened April 1. Attendance at the Magic Kingdom initially will be limited to California residents upon reopening.
In Florida, the parks are open at 35% capacity and having no trouble attracting guests. Disney over the weekend reported that all parks at Walt Disney World are completely booked next week for Disney Resort guests and theme park tickets guests. Disney’s Hollywood Studios also has no availability for the rest of the month for guests as spring break crowds push the capacity at the Florida attraction.
The park closed a year ago this week.

The Rotterdam International Film Festival (IFFR) has unveiled the line-up for its 50th edition, with the Mads Mikkelsen-starring Riders Of Justice set to open the fest.

Anthony Daniels is synonymous with Star Wars, and is the only actor to have appeared in all eleven live-action movies. His C-3Po has a key role in all three trilogies and made brief cameos in Rogue One and Solo, making him an almost ubiquitous presence in a galaxy far, far away for over 40 years.
Not only that, but the 74 year-old was also in the ill-fated Star Wars Holiday Special and lent his vocal talents to feature films The Clone Wars, The Lego Movie and Ralph Breaks the Internet. Daniels has also appeared as Threepio in The Muppet Show, Sesame Street and Robot Chicken as well as countless animated projects including Rebels and Resistance.
However, the iconic droid more than likely won’t appear onscreen in The Mandalorian, marking one of the rare projects where Daniels’ services aren’t required. The Disney Plus show tells a story that largely operates independently of the movies,...

Welcome to September, ladies and gentlemen. With the summer coming to and end, the fall almost upon us, and the Covid-19 pandemic still very much impacting the industry, much is still up in the air. Such is life with the coronavirus holding up much of the film industry. As fitting this weird year, not much has changed since July when I looked at the best of the first half of the year. Mostly, this just means the best is (hopefully) still to come here. We shall see, but just keep in mind that the midpoint of 2020 has been somewhat of a holding pattern, for obvious reasons. This week has been particularly rich in cool Star Wars videos. Yesterday, we reported on an extremely fun one from the official Star Wars Kids YouTube channel listing all the ships across the franchise. Now, a perfectly edited fan supercut condenses down the essence of Star Wars into two minutes and forty-two seconds and it’s going viral.
Created by YouTuber Redfoam and titled A Ride Through the Galaxy, the video features footage from all nine films in the Skywalker Saga, plus Rogue One, Solo and The Mandalorian. The YouTuber explains in the description that they were inspired by Gugga Leunnam’s similar Ride Through the McU videos and wanted to do the same for Star Wars. And after watching this, I think it’s safe to say they’ve succeeded.

Resident Evil 3 is finally getting some paid Dlc in the near future, Capcom has announced, though you might want to hold off on celebrating just yet.
While certainly not a bad installment in the franchise by any stretch of the imagination, Jill Valentine’s reimagined escape from Raccoon City has been frequently criticized for being too short, especially when compared with its predecessor, which offered heaps of replay value in the form of multiple campaigns and endings. To make matters worse, fans were disappointed by the revelation that various chunks of the original game – such as the Clocktower and multiple-choice scenarios – were completely cut from the remake, inevitably resulting in a shorter campaign.
It’s for those reasons (and no doubt many others), then, that story Dlc has been top of the agenda in terms of how Capcom could potentially improve the base game. Unfortunately, though, the developer seems to disagree,...

Well, we’re halfway through one of the strangest movie years we’ve ever had. For someone who sees more than 300 films a year, not having been in a theater since early March is insane. Still, as you all know, I’ve still been seeing plenty of things, so my film count is over 180 overall for 2020. That being said, for most, that’s not the case, and that’s a shame. Still, with it being July 1st, it’s time to look back on the first half of the year, honoring the best movies and performances that I’ve seen. This year, I’m being very open-minded (minus two specific titles), so if I’ve seen it, it’s potentially on the list. Basically, there’s a few festival titles or July releases that I normally would have held back on, but I figured…why not? Let’s get right down to it.

“Why do they hate us?” It’s ostensibly a simple question, but one which underpins the entirety of Resistance, the latest War-time story to depict the heroic efforts of those who sought to protect Jewish children from the horrors of Nazi Germany. Though multiple answers are offered, the impact of the question is clear. The harrowing opening scene shows a family ripped apart and is coupled by a portentous, string-driven score. An ominous sign of things to come.

Before he found fame as a world-renowned mime, Marceau worked with the French Resistance to save thousands of orphans from the clutches of the Nazis. The movie produced by WildBear Entertainment’s Veronica Fury and other PVOD releases such as Ben Lawrence’s Hearts and Bones and Alexs Stadermann’s animated feature 100% Wolf are benefiting from the willingness of some independent cinemas to screen films just before or while they are available on home entertainment.

However the usual 90-day theatrical window is expected to be reinstated when cinemas around the country are back in business, except for alternate content releases such as musical concerts and National Theatre Live.

This is a boon for the VOD platforms recently launched by Dendy Cinemas, the Ritz Cinema in Sydney and Melbourne’s Classic, Lido and Cameo Cinemas and the Golden Age Cinema.
However the usual 90-day theatrical window is expected to be reinstated when cinemas around the country are back in business, except for alternate content releases such as musical concerts and National Theatre Live.

You might not expect Lex Luthor to celebrate the return of Superman and his friends, but apparently you’d be wrong. Last week, Warner Bros. broke the internet when it was announced that the Snyder Cut of Justice League was finally being released on HBO Max next year. Since then, various Dceu stars have expressed their excitement over the news online and the Man of Steel’s nemesis himself, Lex Luthor Aka Jesse Eisenberg, is the latest.
While speaking with Digital Spy to promote his new movie Resistance, the Batman V Superman actor was asked for his thoughts on the Snyder Cut. Eisenberg revealed that he couldn’t be happier for his friend and that he spoke to the filmmaker recently about the re-release.
“I spoke to Zack a couple of weeks ago and he told me about it. Yeah [I’m excited], because I’m friends with Zack. I’m so happy...

Fans hoping for more animated Star Wars adventures on Disney+ may have to wait a little while now that The Clone Wars has come to an end with the explosive season 7 finale. As the Republic falls and the Empire rises, some fans might be left wondering what’s next for Ahsoka Tano. Fortunately, while Disney hasn’t announced a follow-up animated series to fill the void left by The Clone Wars‘ excellent final season, Disney+ already has another animated series that directly connects to The Clone Wars while bridging the gap to the events of the Original Trilogy.

(This article is pretty much just a list of major spoilers for “Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker,” but it’s tough to imagine that’s a surprise if you made it past the headline.)
After taking a few months to process just how completely wild “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” is, it’s time to dive back in to the discourse. There’s not much else to do right now, of course, with the whole coronavirus thing running amok. And now that Disney has added the film to the Disney+ library for the annual “May the 4th” celebration, so many more people are getting in on this madness, or jumping back in.
But that’s fine, since it’s going to be a few years before we have another “Star Wars” movie to fight about, so we can pace ourselves with the “Rise of Skywalker” discourse for a while.

Exclusive: Deadline has learned that IFC Films has set Aug. 7 for the release of the Liam Neeson and Micheál Richardson heart-warming movie Made in Italy. The pic, which reps the feature directorial debut of Dunkirk actor James D’Arcy, will hit drive-ins, those theaters that are open, and on-demand.
IFC Films is arguably the only distributor out there that’s making fresh titles available to those theaters that are open right now during some states’ early reopenings as the Covid-19 crisis calms. To date IFC has put five titles in drive-ins since March – Swallow, Resistance, True History of the Kelly Gang, How To Build A Girl, and The Wretched.
IFC took U.S. rights to HanWay Films’ Made in Italy back in February. In the pic, Liam Neeson plays Robert, a bohemian London artist who returns to Tuscany, Italy with his estranged son played by Micheál Richardson, to sell the house...
