Brett Goldstein might be one of the more underrated players in movies and TV series. He doesn't just act, either. Nor does he only act and write. He creates, and what he comes up with are some excellent and highly entertaining ideas.
Many might know him from playing Roy Kent on the Apple TV series, Ted Lasso. Kent is a good-hearted menace. He is not easy to please, but he will help those in need. Goldstein plays the character dynamically and exceptionally well.
Some might know him from another Apple TV series, Shrinking. His part is minor on that show (he doesn't appear until season two), but essential. He plays the character who drives drunk and kills Jason Siegel's character's wife. The show is a comedy with a heavy dose of kind-hearted drama. Goldstein also co-wrote the episodes and created the show.

In today's news, here's an unexpected development that we're sure the internet will be very normal about. Honestly, the idea of Greta Gerwig (of all filmmakers) directing a new spin on "The Chronicles of Narnia" (of all things) for Netflix (of all places) already feels like a mad-libs fever dream. Add to that the behind-the-scenes drama surrounding her efforts to receive a wide theatrical release and the story only gets spicier. Now, however, here comes a twist that makes all of that pale in comparison.
After rumors have swirled over the last few days, Deadline has confirmed that "Narnia" is about to sound very, very different from what we might've anticipated. None other than star Meryl Streep is reportedly "in talks" to sign on as the voice of Aslan, the godlike entity from author C.S. Lewis' beloved fantasy novels who acts as a rather blatant allegory for Jesus Christ.

Jennifer Lopez is going back to her rom-com roots. But this Office Romance is definitely not safe for work.
Lopez stars alongside Brett Goldstein in the upcoming film, which recently kicked off production. “Every day I come to work to do a rom-com with Jennifer Lopez and this incredible cast, and I expect people to jump out and tell me I’m being pranked,” says Goldstein. “Hasn’t happened yet, so maybe this is real?” See new photos below that Lopez posted from set!
Penned by Goldstein and Joe Kelly, Office Romance will be directed by Ol Parker (Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again) and co-stars Betty Gilpin. The film also reteams Lopez with Edward James Olmos, who originally played her father in the 1997 film Selena, and will once again portray the onscreen father to Lopez.

Amanda Seyfried doesn’t entirely regret not starring in “Guardians of the Galaxy” but does now know she was “wrong” to assume the film would flop.
The “Long Bright River” actress said during the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast in the below video that she was in talks to play Gamora in the first “Guardians of the Galaxy” feature. Zoe Saldaña was later cast. Seyfried admitted that she was “way too scared” to join the MCU, especially as an all-green character due to the five-plus hours of makeup required to transform for the role.
“I was really scared of the idea of being stuck and painted a different color because of the amount of time [it takes],” Seyfried said. “It was a giant opportunity. I had just met [director] James [Gunn] in person. He is wonderful. Apparently someone said he didn’t remember but it’s definitely true. I definitely got the offer for it...

Lovers of naughties media continue winning as even the actors are holding out hope. The movie musical, Mamma Mia! was a smash hit, with a sequel Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, ten years later. Both the 2008 movie and the 2018 sequel featured pretty much the same cast, with new members added, such as Cher, to the sequel. Starring Amanda Seyfried and Meryl Streep, the film featured music from the Swedish band Abba. The sequel, which was Seyfried's return as Sophie with a cameo from Streep at the end as Donna, remixed the songs to put them in a new context. But now it begs the question: Will there ever be a Mamma Mia 3? Talking with Collider's Christina Radish for Long Bright River, Seyfried revealed her hopes for a threequel:...

On any given night, when I'm looking for something to watch, I often feel called to return to the island of Kalokairi on a small boat while singing along to "Dancing Queen." Such describes the beginning of a number of Mamma Mia!rewatches, and let me tell you, it never gets old. I absolutely love Mamma Mia! and its sequel, Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, even though the second installment brings the death of my favorite character, the one and only Donna Sheridan (Meryl Streep).

Here we go again…again. Well, maybe. As much fervor as there is for another “Mamma Mia!” installment, the film series’ main star, Amanda Seyfried knows that things in this business take a long time and there are certain considerations studios must undertake, especially in regards to building on IP. There are also certain considerations Seyfried has in mind too.

She added that producer Judy Craymer is “working on it,” but she believes Universal only likes to work on musical at a time, as the first “Wicked” was stalled due to “Mamma Mia! From The Shining to It's a Wonderful Life, many of the most influential films in history were savaged by critics upon their release. These films prove that bad reviews alone don't mean a movie is destined for doom. In fact, sometimes critics can entirely miss the point of a film or overlook its most charming aspects.
In the early 2000s, franchise films had yet to establish their stranglehold on Hollywood, and theaters were filled with countless original and unusual movies. Whether it was rom-coms or action blockbusters, the aughts had a fun and light style that was often overlooked by the critics. And many films that were not exactly Oscar-worthy, nonetheless helped define the era, being fondly remembered by their fans decades later.

Amanda Seyfried is singing the praises of just how “crazy” — in a good way — Mona Fastvold’s upcoming “Ann Lee” musical is. Seyfried stars in the title role of the historical film, which centers on the religious leader Ann Lee, who founded the Shaker Movement in the late 1770s. Lee’s followers deemed her the female Jesus Christ, and her worshippers prayed through song and dance, hence her story getting the musical biopic treatment.
The film is co-written by Fastvold and her “The Brutalist” collaborator and real-life partner Brady Corbet. The pair are currently nominated for the Best Original Screenplay Oscar for their work on the film, which is also nominated for Best Picture and in a slew of other categories.

Between her prominent roles in projects like Game of Thrones, 300, and both The Purge and Terminator franchises, Lena Headeyis a certified badass when it comes to playing powerful leading characters. Headey's time as Cersei Lannister alone showcases her skill at developing a cruel, intimidating screen presence, which is why it's still surprising to learn the actor's legacy on film is as varied as it is compelling. In particular, those searching for Headey's softer side can do no better than Imagine Me & You, the 2005 rom-com that sees Headey trade her crown for a flower shop. Directed by Ol Parker, who later went on to direct Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, Imagine Me & You offers the same blend of humor and heartwarming charm, delivering one of the most underrated rom-coms of the early 2000s in the process.

Pierce Brosnan has become best known for two very different roles in his career. One of these big roles is playing Sam Carmichael in the Abba-filled jukebox musical film adaptation of Mamma Mia! as well as its sequel movie Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again. Sam is one of the three prospective dads of protagonist Sophie in the film.
Before he was in Mamma Mia!, however, Brosnan was well-known for his work in the James Bond franchise. Brosnan followed Timothy Dalton's two-film foray in the franchise and preceded the well-loved Daniel Craig in the role. He went on to play 007 in four movies, three of which were released in the 90s, including GoldenEye, Tomorrow Never Dies, and The World is Not Enough. Brosnan's 2000s James Bond Film gets evaluated by a professional.

Considered the pinnacle of acting talent, Meryl Streep has been commanding both the big and small screen for almost 50 years, which has led to an unsurprisingly high net worth in 2024. Streep rose to prominence in the 1970s, taking home her first Oscar for Kramer vs. Kramer early in her career. She has also won Oscars for her work in Sophie's Choice and The Iron Lady, and Streep has been nominated a record 21 times. In addition to her illustrious film career, Streep has seen success on television, winning acclaim for Big Little Lies and Only Murders in the Building.
Streep was born in Summit, New Jersey to parents Mary and Harry, and she has two younger brothers. In her own personal life, Streep was in a relationship with acclaimed actor John Cazale from 1976-1978, until his untimely passing. Later in 1978, she married sculptor Don Gummer, and together they have three daughters — actresses Mamie,...

Quick Links Why Is Meryl Streep Not in Mamma Mia! 2? Meryl Streep Was Still Involved in Mamma Mia! 2 Will Meryl Streep Return For Mamma Mia 3? What Will Mamma Mia 3 Be About? What Is Meryl Streep Working On Now?
Meryl Streep, a Hollywood heavy hitter, has the resume to pick and choose her roles, and she has a reputation for taking on fresh and challenging parts. That's likely why the part of Donna Sheridan in Mamma Mia! appealed to her. Playing a mother with a complicated past who occasionally breaks out in song isn't something that comes around every day. However, sequels are more complicated (as in the case of Downton Abbey: A New Era) because Streep isn't as passionate about them. This preference possibly influenced why Meryl Streep didn't fully return in Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again.

The Brutalist has an amazing team behind it, including writer Mona Fastvold, who also worked on The World to Come, and collaborator and partner Brady Corbet. Together with The Brutalist's newly Golden Globe-nominated composer, Daniel Blumberg, they have been sneakily filming an upcoming musical. The team behind The Brutalist, which just earned seven Golden Globe nominations, recently wrapped filming for a musical called Ann Lee, about a prominent 18th century religious figure who worshiped through song and dance.
With Oscar nominee and musical alum Amanda Seyfried leading the film as the title character, musical fans everywhere are rejoicing. Mother Ann Lee was a religious figure born in England in 1736, who immigrated to New York in 1774 with a small group of her followers. The film is inspired by the real events of Lee's life and, according to Deadline, has been described as “an epic fable” about the founding leader of the Shaker Movement.

After missing out on playing Glinda in Jon M. Seyfried stars in the title role in the historical film, which shot in Hungary right after “The Brutalist” and features original songs by Golden Globe-nominated “The Brutalist” composer Daniel Blumberg. Choreography comes from Celia Rowlson Hall, the dancer who played the adult Sophie in “Aftersun.” The secret indie film has already wrapped production and is looking for a 2025 premiere, with sales and distribution yet to be set. Refresh for latest…: It was smooth sailing for Disney’s Moana 2 this weekend as it reached $600M global following last frame‘s record-breaking bow. The running split is even for the splashy sequel, with $300M domestic and $300M from the international box office.
The full overseas frame was $103.7M in 52 markets, repping a 41% drop. Japan was new this weekend with $6.5M (including previews), for the market’s biggest non-local opening of 2024; biggest December opening ever for an animated title and the No. 3 biggest launch weekend for Walt Disney Animation Studios (behind Frozen and Frozen 2).
Some other key stats here — before we dig into further detail below — include Moana 2 becoming the No. 5 movie of 2024 worldwide, surpassing the entire run of the first Moana at current rates and charting as the No. 8 studio release of the year overseas (and sans holidays).

Monday Update with Moana 2 actuals: Now that Sunday’s actuals are in, Disney’s Moana 2 has surfed even higher across its launch frame domestically, swelling the global start to $389M. That’s a new milestone as Disney confirmed the phenom has posted the highest ever reported animated opening weekend at the global box office, overtaking the previous record held by The Super Mario Bros. Movie.
We understand that Dis didn’t call out the record yesterday because the studio wanted to wait until the actuals were tallied, particularly given there were no holidays overseas and that estimates were dependent on family weekend play.
International came in slightly lower than estimated, at $163.8M, but this has not affected the host of Moana 2 milestones (see below for the weekend roundup).
Previous, Sunday: Disney’s Moana 2 has shattered expectations with a $386.3M global opening.

While the adaptation of the hit musical is mostly known for its entertaining sequences set to ABBAs greatest hits, there are many great Mamma Mia! quotes that highlight the romance, comedy, and fun of the movie and its sequel. The 2008 big-screen adaption brings together a star-studded cast that includes Meryl Streep, Amanda Seyfried, Pierce Brosnan, and Colin Firth to name only a few. It tells the story of young Sophie (Seyfried) who invites three of her mothers former lovers to her wedding to figure out which is her real father.
The premise is a perfect setup for funny antics and talk of past romances. Adding in the music of Abba, and Mamma Mia! became a huge hit. Its 2018 sequel, Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, continues the fun with a continuation of Sophies story while also flashing back to the youthful adventures of Donna. The movie is filled with hilarious one-liners,...

Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again, the 2018 sequel to the hit film musical Mamma Mia!, saw Cher take on the role of Donnas mother, Ruby Sheridan, Donna's surprising Mamma Mia! franchise death. The character only had around 10 minutes of screen time, appearing in the last act of the film. Despite her limited role, the whole movie was building up to Chers appearance and performances of "Fernando" and "Super Trouper". However, after watching the first film, its evident that Ruby shouldnt have featured in the sequel at all.
Ruby appeared in the Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again finale, wanting to be part of Sophies life. Despite not being part of the family since Donna became pregnant with Sophie, Ruby made up for her past mistakes. As well as this, Ruby rekindled a past relationship with Fernando (Andy Garcia), overcoming past regrets. She played quite a big part in the final act of the movie,...

Mamma Mia 3 is still a possibility, and if it finally happens, Amanda Seyfried has one song request for her character, which gives the movie its perfect story, but faces one problem. For years, different musicals have jumped from the stage to the big screen, and in 2008, it was Mamma Mias turn. Directed by Phyllida Lloyd and written by Catherine Johnson (based on her book from the musical), Mamma Mia takes the audience to the fictional Greek island of Kalokairi to meet Donna Sheridan (Meryl Streep) and her daughter Sophie (Seyfried).

Ever since the first Mamma Mia! film came out back in 2008, fans have been captivated by the outlandish storytelling and the timeless music of Abba. The original film wound up being a global hit. After all, the musical charmed audiences with its vibrant musical numbers, picturesque Greek island setting, and an all-star cast led by Meryl Streep and Amanda Seyfried. Its success even prompted the 2018 sequel, Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, which continued the story while exploring the backstory of the character, Donna.

As Amanda Seyfried anticipates a return to one of her most beloved roles, the fantasy casting for her new co-stars has begun.
While sharing an update on a potential third installment in the Mamma Mia! movie musical franchise, the Oscar nominee addressed the likelihood that Sabrina Carpenter could join the cast.
“Mamma Mia 3, let’s go baby,” Seyfried told ABC News, crossing her fingers for luck. “Everybody says it’s gonna happen. But I mean, I haven’t seen a script.”
After Carpenter sang the musical’s title track by Abba at a recent Madison Square Garden concert, Seyfried agreed the Short n’ Sweet artist could “technically” play her character Sophie’s daughter in an upcoming followup.
Although Seyfried is only 13 years older than Carpenter, the interviewer noted that “age is sort of a forgettable construct” in the franchise after Cher played Meryl Streep‘s mom in the previous film,...

Mamma Mia 3 should bring back Cher's Ruby for a deeper story. Christine Baranski's update offers hope for Mamma Mia 3 with the whole cast. Mamma Mia 3 could solve unanswered questions and explore Donna and Ruby's past.
Mamma Mia 3 keeps getting more and more hopeful updates, and if it truly happens, I really need it to bring back one character who got too little screen time in the second movie. Successful musicals usually get the movie treatment at some point, though not all of them succeed on the big screen as they did on stage. Among the ones that have found great success on the stage and in film is Mamma Mia!, which got a film adaptation in 2008 directed by Phyllida Lloyd. Mamma Mia! was a box office success, granting it a sequel 10 years later.
