In response to garabedian123

I just had to write this in response to garabedian123's ridiculous "review". You complain that the series doesn't line up with the movie, but then you immediately contradict yourself by saying you didn't even watch the movie so it doesn't matter. Make up your mind!

Also, the urSkeks were established as being aliens in the original lore material a long time ago. And the reason why Aughra (NOT "Okra") gave the Skeksis the Crystal was because the Skeksis didn't actually start out as being evil rulers (again, this is established in the original lore material). They only became evil as they grew older and their bodies start to fail them. Seriously, do a bit of research first.

Cool show. Hoping for a second season.

Aughra knows every story has a beginning and ending. But this is only the beginning and after that there is only the ending.

Aughra must know what happens after the beginning and before the ending. Aughra must knows what happens next. There is a path, but I don't see yet how it goes. There are multiple ways to connect. Show the right path to me, Thra!

Could've wrapped it up a BIT better

This is a very brief review but:

I thoroughly enjoyed the series and this episode. Once again, it was a brilliant episode but the only thing stopping it from a 10/10 is that it couldve been wrapped up a bit better.

In the Dark of the Night Warning: Spoilers
AKA: I Only Want My Rightful Dues

The Skeksis don't seem like very formidable adversaries. They're slow, weak and rotting and they make the battle comical. On the plus side, skekOk isn't quite as harmless as he appears.

Back in the castle, skekTek pretends to be the Emperor. Either that or he's channeling his inner Steve Whitmire. Note how he repeats the very words skekZok said before the scientist's eye was gouged out.

Oh, skekTek. You may not be the most abused creature in all Thra, but your percieved slights against you are not without proof.

There's a great scene where skekSo reveals he has anxiety dreams. The exchange between him and skekVar is astonishingly philosophical. Although it does bring to mind Rasputin's song from 'Anastasia'.

I didn't take the Garthim seriously when I saw 'The Dark Crystal'. But when the first Garthim scuttled out onto the balcony, I got chills. All of a sudden, that thing looked so cool.

A grand fantasy adventure

Warning: Spoilers
This review contains spoilers.

The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance's season one finale is entitled "A Single Piece was Lost". The Skeksis confront the gelflings that have taken up arms against them. Rian, Deet, and Brea assemble the Dual Glaive and ready themselves for battle.

The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance's season one finale is fantastic. The season finale is an excellent culmination of story elements that have been introduced in the season. The growth of Rian into a warrior that is willing to fight the Skeksis is clear in this episode. He speaks from the heart when he is inspiring his fellow Gelflings. Likewise Deet and Brea are in a great journey of fighting the Skeksis. These three protagonists have a good conclusion to the season and the season sets up the protagonists for an interesting follow-up if there is a new season.

The Skeksis reveal their brutal nature and are performed well during the battle. The battle is not the most fluidly choreographed battle. However, this battle had a lot of meaning behind it. This was a battle that had the Skeksis scheming amongst themselves and the Gelflings had to prove themselves capable of holding back the Skeksis.

The final also met with the original 1982 movie by introducing the Garthim. This was an excellent scene with the series already showing its solid writing choices.

I would recommend "A Single Piece was Lost", the first season finale of The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance.

Grade: A

The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance Season One

The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance is a television series that premiered on Netflix. The series is a prequel to the 1982 movie The Dark Crystal. The series follows three Gelflings as they discover their Skeksis lords embark on tyranny. They must investigate and save the planet of Thra as a global event known as the Darkening occurs. The first season introduces the main characters of Rian, Deet, and Brea.

This season is a great reintroduction to the world of The Dark Crystal. This season has a similar feel to the original 1982 movie of The Dark Crystal. The season features many more Gelfling characters and the series is able to develop them well. The development of the character is the season's best attribute. Rian, Deet, and Brea are all developed characters with their own story arcs.

The season has excellent pacing. From the beginning, the three characters are introduced. The three characters interact with the Skeksis and they all have bad experiences. Rian's story is the focus at the start and this is an amazing hook to the season. Rian fights to uphold the truth. Brea and Deet have investigations to find out more about the Skeksis. The series culminates in an unexpected way with an encounter with a Skeksis and Mystic together in the dunes. This is one of the best few scenes in the series.

I would recommend "The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance" developed by Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews.

Grade: A.

A decent climax.

3 out of 5 stars.

The season finale of Dark Crystal concludes this epic story telling of the world of Thra. Gelflings battling against the Skeksis. The battle sequence was pretty cool. It delivers the emotional connection with the characters. The direction seemed a bit dull and dragged on. The final ten minutes slowly foreshadowing on what is next to come.

Overall, The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance is a fair season. I will rate the season 3 out of 5 stars. It was okay. The season brought the world of Thra back from the original movie. It is more of a prequel. The story telling is epic. Every episode seemed to be a little too long for its story content. Which dragged on for some moments. The set design, the puppeteering, and visual effects are beautiful and entertaining. It can be anti-climatic with the conflict of Skeksis and the Gelflings which felt like they should have a better pacing with the season.

Doesnt line up with the movie at all!
garabedian12316 September 2019
Not a bad show...but not the dark crystal...I never loved the movie so its not like I needed it to be perfect. But it didn't line up to the movie at all...not even close. And had I never seen the movie I probably would not have cared. But Aliens???...Aliens don't even make sense in this universe....They defy the logic of its own story. How did they arrive? Do they have a space ship? Where is it? Why will they not return to where they came from when they die..and why not Thraa?

And really my biggest issue....Okra knew the skexis were the evil halves of the mystics the entire time? Then why did she give them the crystal...and if Okra is god and made the earth...where did the rest of the universe come from.?
