Walt Disney Studios has debuted the first official look at Steven Spielberg’s “West Side Story,” pictured above. The project, based on the iconic Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim musical of the same name, casts “Baby Driver” star Ansel Elgort and newcomer Rachel Zegler as star-crossed lovers Tony and Maria, respectively. The first look photo above features the two characters surrounded by the film’s rival gangs, the Sharks and the Jets.

Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Partners has won a spec package auction and will finance World War I film “1917” with Sam Mendes on board to direct.
The film will begin production next April, for a U.S. release in December 2019 with Universal distributing the pic. Mendes wrote the original script, which marks his first writing credit, with Krysty Wilson-Cairns and will also produce with his Neal Street Productions partner Pippa Harris.
“Our company has been a home for Sam since his first film” said Steven Spielberg. “I am so happy to have him back here in his old room spinning new stories – especially this hugely daring and ambitious new movie.”
Aside from the film being set during World War I, story details are being kept under wraps.

Jez Butterworth’s Olivier Award-winning play The Ferryman will arrive on Broadway with most of its acclaimed London cast intact. Paddy Considine, the Olivier-winning Laura Donnelly and Genevieve O’Reilly will reprise their roles when the play hits New York in October.
The initial casting announcement was made today by producers Sonia Friedman Productions and Neal Street Productions.
Last month, Butterworth’s Northern Irish drama won the Olivier for Best New Play, with director Sam Mendes taking the Best Director award and Donnelly named Best Actress.
The more than 30 Broadway cast members will also include Dean Ashton, Glynis Bell, Gina Costigan, Charles Dale, Justin Edwards, Fra Fee, Fionnula Flanagan, Tom Glynn-Carney, Stuart Graham, Mark Lambert, Carla Langley, Conor MacNeill, Colin McPhillamy, Rob Malone, Dearbhla Molloy, Glenn Speers, and Niall Wright, with further casting to be announced.
