Good representation, lack of roles
alia2727 June 2018
I could say.. I'm a big fan of Cheese in the Trap since its manhwa was posted in Line WebToon couple of years ago. I've read them day by day till I found out that it will be presented as a Drama in 2016. That'd be the very first drama I see, too, back then. (ps. I didn't get into Korean things before). After its arrival in 2016, turns out I appreciated the series more than I expected, though the story lines went farther than its comic at some points. Then I got news that this story is once again would be packaged for a movie in 2017. That became the next highest anticipation I felt after its series done.

What I'm about to say is, as a movie enthusiast and a big fan of this project, I'm a little bit disappoint with this version somehow. The story line's very good for at least representing its comic, but for some reasons, I found it strange that I referred to the drama version more than the movie. Maybe the first impression that was made from drama's characters brought the movie risen up to a whole new level expectation for us. Park Hae Jin represented Yoo Jung seonbae once again in a very best way (just like Yoo Jung character was built from himself). Oh Yeon Seo could be a fit character for Hong Seol physically, but not characteristically. I expected Hong Seol who was live with more confusion, shyness, vagueness and cleverness just like once acted by Kim Go Eun. And of course for Baek's sibling, they need to do at least portraying those recklessness, cunning, and unbeatable sides of them, just like once played by Seo Kang Joon & Lee Sung Kyung.

When I was reviewing about the main roles as above, I felt the more expectation level rose up to other roles as well. I might gave 5/10 stars for this movie for bringing the rests of the stories that was never brought up in its series. But over all, I couldn't thank you all enough for the characters here. I hope this would never happen again in the future of kdrama or kmovies world, for exploiting a masterpiece story into a profitable business. Thank you

Cliche, simple, emotions are lacking
fuentesdarien26 August 2018
The movie has a simple plot but the thrill parts were good.

The emotions of the casts seems lacking or I think it is a part of the atmosphere.

Many holes in the plot. Many unanswered questions, and the story line is just plain booring! Can't see the point of this movie at all!

KDrama version is better.

REVIEW:
  • Don't get me wrong. I really like the story of this webtoon (source material - I haven't read it only watched the kdrama). I just didn't like this adaptation. It made the story confusing. In the korean drama, every bit of the story was shown (especially in the first nine episodes). Here, only the major parts were shown and some weren't really connected to what was happening to the previous parts. It wasn't a coherent storyline.
  • I thought that this movie was supposed to fix the weak ending of the korean drama. However, that didn't happen. The movie just wrapped things up neatly in a bow.
  • I prefer the cast of the korean drama. The acting of the cast here was weak. All of the cast of the kdrama were great. Why didn't wait for Kim Go Eun!!!
  • The only reason that I was able to finish this is because of Park Hae Jin.
  • Beautiful cinematography though. Points for that.
  • KDRAMA MUCH BETTER THAN THE MOVIE!!!

SHOULD YOU WATCH IT: No. It will be much better to watch the korean drama.

Not Good Enough
PennyReviews18 April 2018
As a huge fan of Cheese in the trap, having read the webtoon and watched the drama more than once, I've been waiting for the movie to show some aspects that the drama had left out or some alternative ending, or something new at least. But, this one was a disappointment, alas. First of all, even though I'm a fan of Oh Yeon Seo, I can't say that the role suited her. Seo had her own style, had her own introverse character and she was interesting as a character overall. This version of Seo lacked those things. She was blunt and kind of boring. Then there were the Baek In siblings. They supposed to give some edge to the whole story and not to mention to create a solid second lead syndrome in a strong love triangle. However, Baek In Na was no where and her brother was just dull. Hae jin was good in his role again and probably the only reason why this one is worth watching. Because, story wise, this one was kind of a mess. Too many stories, too little time, too confusing. As for the ending, it was okay, but I've found the ending of the drama more realistic when it came to the guy's character and everything that had happened, rather than this one.

Sunbae is a lot darker in the film version
santipokar5 September 2018
I actually really like this movie version of Cheese In the Trap. I've seen the kdrama as well. Fans need to see this movie as a 'filler' to the kdrama. A lot more backstory about Sunbae (Park Hae Jin) that would explain how psychotic he actually really is. Sunbae is actually a really dark and scary individual but the kdrama downplayed it to a leading man-romantic love interest. This movie portrays his real character. The ending will shock you ! Don't compare to the kdrama. you've seen the drama .. move on.. watch this film with an open mind. I guarantee you'll enjoy it. I can't wait to get it on DVD. !

Webtoon turned into Bad Movie
dinasilverpalmdesert27 September 2021
Very curious title? Confusing! The characters are bad stereotypes and poorly developed. The writers knew how to drag this storyline out. I know I watch things because I am too lazy to flick through other shows.

Love Park Hae Jin
Fieryvee30 March 2018
This is a great grab your popcorn and escape reality movie. The men are good looking and the romance is too cute! Park Hae Jin is too fine! Seriously, this movie is for you if you're a PHJ fan. If you like serious movies then this is not your movie. But if you enjoy the webtoon Cheese in the Trap well here's your movie!

Pointless
kchugrad20 November 2019
I don't see the whole point of this movie. I mean, I thought that because a lot of fans were demeaning to know what happened in the end of the k-drama series, they made this movie to appease their curiosity. But in fact, the k-drama series was way better and not to mention, the movie was just like high lighted points of the series. Nothing new in the end. So that's why I rated it 3 stars because for me it's pointless. Don't get me wrong, the k-drama series was good and definitely worth the binge watching. I'd rather just watch the series and you'll know what happened in the movie...it's just in more detail

University romance with quite the hint of thriller
fannisabalqis9 April 2018
Warning: Spoilers
This movie adaptation of a similar webtoon titled 'Cheese in the Trap' will surprisingly please the fans as the actors and actresses have high physical similarities with the one in the webtoon.

The cinematographic is on the satisfactory near good side, with light tones to match the setting of the characters being university students and darker tones on the thriller scenes. Actors & actresses have well played and brought out life to their characters pretty good. The characters are all pretty interesting and all have its complications, but since this is a movie they have not gone a lot deeper on every character and focuses on the main one. The story can be quite confusing in the middle but it is wrapped up quite nicely in the end.

As I've mentioned on the headline, for those of you who are interested in some light romance with hints of thriller go watch this. Good for couples to go watch together.

I love this especially Sandara Park ♥

The korean drama is better because many scenes was seen there since it has many episodes and almost an hour each episode while on this one, this is a movie, because of the limited time, it only shows the main scenes in the webtoon. No hate just love. ♥ Kuddos to the hardworking individuals who made this movie! ☺ Every cast gave their best I also love Hae jin.
