The Most Anticlimactic Finale In History
adamg-5807128 April 2019
Warning: Spoilers
The first season started off with so much potential. It was different, it was weird, and interesting. Season two is just weird with little else. It started getting political like everybody else. Apparently the black gods are discriminated against by the white gods.

I thought they might make up for this painfully slow moving season with a good finale, nope. They even killed off the leprechaun, everyone's favorite character before the finale. I stuck it out this season, I doubt I'll be able to do it again in season 3.

Season Two Review
southdavid28 January 2020
Having been told, before I even started watching the show, that the conventional wisdom was that this second season wasn't very good, I had expectations duly lowered. Perhaps because of that, overall I enjoyed it - but I do feel that the lack of story momentum is holding the show back.

Both the old gods and the new ones continue to try and marshal forces to join their sides for the upcoming battle. Aside from soldiers, Mr Wednesday (Ian McShane) also needs someone to repair Gungnir, his fearsome battle spear. The new Gods are evolving though, with Media becoming New Media (Kahyun Kim) the embodiment of all encompassing, instant gratification, Social media. They look to take advantage of the technological advances to aid their hunt for Mr Wednesday. Shadow Moon (Ricky Whittle) remains a pawn in the game.

Losing Bryan Fuller as a showrunner does, for me, appear to have hurt the show in this second season. The first was a visual masterpiece (if it too progresses through the story at a slow pace), this feels like someone occasionally trying to ape his artistic style, which slowing the pace even more. I don't want to give the impression that I didn't enjoy this season, I did. What's there, I liked. It's just that "what's there" is a number of detours, back stories and diversions. I'm not sure that there was more than an episodes worth of plot that drove forward the actually narrative thrust across the whole season. All of which pushes me towards my main concern, which is that the show will be cancelled before it manages to get to the end of the story. I know the third season is confirmed, but at the rate it's going that won't take us to the conclusion either. So then we have, what I would imagine is, an expensive show with an in-demand cast, that has had repeated issues with the production team. It hardly seems like a huge stretch for the third season to become the last.

I still love the performances, the production and the style (though that will decrease with the loss of Orlando Jones for the third run) and I'll be back for that when it appears on Amazon - but as mentioned above. I'm concerned about the future of the series.

Not bad
bestford29 April 2019
Not a bad finale can't say the whole series has been as good as the first series. I haven't read the book but guessed the so called revelation ages ago not exactly rocket science. I do hope we haven't seen the last of mad sweeney as probably one of the strongest characters in it. Looking forward to see moon shadow stepping up now.

Great finale!
UniqueParticle29 April 2019
Probably doesn't help much that it was rewritten 8 times because STARZ didn't like it but I think it's pretty damn good! Deserves better ratings for sure, I love the bizarre stuff that happens with Mr. Technology & Shadow moon. The chaos most of the way through is epic, love the editing & effects too.

Last Episode Cool
romeovision200215 May 2019
I watch this show for Ricky Whittle. I just want everything to celebrate him. Yet there were so many fantastic stories that excluded him. I hope that changes in Season 3.

Dull end of a dull season
giagal3 May 2019
I have had my problems watching the whole season. The first season ended with a blast and I was waiting for a climax, but nothing... all the episodes were a long exhibition of glossy hip stylish trendy images with a very small amount of story in them. The last one was pointless as many of the others. Not sure to be willing to watch next season.

Wait that was the finale???????
kelvinjay28 May 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Seriously though was that really the series finale???? This series seemed to be going down rabbit hole after rabbit hole. It needed a map and got a satnav that spoke in a unknown language. It felt like they were trying to build up to something then forgot what it was while trying to be clever with the set pieces.

I really like season 1 and high hopes for season 2. I'll pray to the gods (old and new) that season 3 picks up the pace, story and gets on with the action.

Oh and Mad Sweeney best be back to in season 3.

Flimsy finale
Yahya_Adada30 April 2019
It is a flimsy finale compared to the apogee of season one. The whole season was slow, still explaining the obvious, and building the characters in a tedious pace. I expected meaningful confrontation between the old and new Gods, which it didn't happen over this season's 8 episodes. I am giving up on the old and new American Gods unless some serious flames are lit in the coming season that I am not waiting for it eagerly as I was waiting for that one.

I'm done
Unimatrix_Zero29 September 2019
Whatever motivation I had to watch American gods dissipated during the second episode of season two. I couldn't help feeling I was a victim of a bait & Switch. I was totally hooked on season one but season two was nothing more than left over dogs dinner. How I got through it is anybodies guess but I wont be sucked into watching season three (if it eventuates).

Wrong pacing
blommaartb17 May 2019
Visuals, Acting, Directing are all superb. But the lack of "release" is becoming a problem. I was willing to wait an entire season to get some form of action/release from all the buildup. But this season just made things worse, NOTHING happens of any significance. It's 50 min for an entire episode, with 10 min. of quality storyline. It's becoming a drag. Don't think I'll be this patient ever again with a series. Disappointing.

Very disapointing

What went wrong!? This season 2 in general, but the final episode most of all. Season 1 was amazing, the original book by Gaiman awesome. You have some great actors. I Just don't understand what changed, how season 2 could be so bad?

how to shrink a god?just by story
o-840547 June 2019
So mad sweeny used to be a great king and god, awesome! but how did shadow escape from the house and save everyone? I mean the visual, story and acting are so fabulous except not clear how dear shadow transfer the world by cutting a treeeeeee , that's so unclear, so wired and sad!

I am a pretty Chinese living in china and fan of Neil Gaiman's original edition"American gods", which I read three times. now I am still madly cling to the first season. I was wondering why season one are so different styling to season two. then realized they have different producers totally, and they are even different from the third one. wishing the producer of season3 can follow the first one's style and feeling.

I'm sorry, but I'm through with this
SallyWilliams9 May 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This season was much weaker than the 1st one, seems like it's going nowhere. And not even the finale made you excited for what's coming next. And thinking that the lead actors were having a go at GOT. This series is simply not in the same league, except for the visuals. In storytelling they could learn a lot from the rival tv show. I really wanted to like this but this season bored me too much. The only exception were the leprechaun (who is no more) & the dead girl. So I'm not coming back next season

What the F..., Neil?
zimmerblitz4 December 2019
Loved the book, freaked when i saw it became a series. I´m not sure what the Producers where thinking when they changed so many of the story-lines, characters etc. That Neil Gaiman actually participated as a producer and THIS is what happened- i don´t understand it. Some of the Cast is fantastic esp. Pablo Schreiber as Mad Sweeney- one of the few characters who really deserved to be extended they way he was. Way to go Big Guy! As much as i like Emily Browning- she just is NOT Laura Moon. One more thing that is unbearable in most Movies, TV Shows etc.: When someone speaks some language other than English the subtitles habitually read: Speaks foreign language. I will one day smash a TV set i´m sure - i´m so sick of this. Dear Producers- someone surely told these actors WHAT to say in their Foreign language ,NO ? This is surely scripted somewhere- NO? Sometimes- very rarely- it is part of the situation to NOT understand what someone says- but, in the other overabundant cases- PLEASE- DO TELL. This is bordering on fascism if you ask me. One example here is New-Media- who by the way is making me wonder: is she supposed to be so terrible? But any ways when speaking in Korean: What the hell is she saying to her followers? I´m done with this.
