Penguin is in charge now...
highmarksreviews25 February 2018
While Season 3 of Gotham was a little limp by the end of it all, it still carried enough momentum over to its Season 4 premiere to excite and thrill. The writing is smart, the characters have grown and new players are yet to be revealed. Tonal balancing is still a minor issue every now and then, but that does not hinder "Pax Penguina" from a strong opening. Gotham really seems to be gaining momentum and has changed a lot since the early days, the fourth outing should be a treat to watch.

The only show I am ready to invest my time and energy into

A good premiere. I really really like the humour and the writing that this show has. It has definitely improved since the earlier seasons. While other shows usually see a dip in quality after being 4 seasons in. Gotham shows no signs of fatigue. Its only GROWING STRONGER!

Ill give this episode a 90% approval rating.

Solid start to season four.

Warning: Spoilers
Season 3 of GOTHAM was truly epic, with the series hitting a real high with Jim Gordon and his love, Dr, Lee Tompkins going bad under the influence of the Alice Tetch virus. After all that, there was no way season 4 could keep up that kind of energy, and to their credit, they do not try. The premier of season 4 begins six months after Gotham was savaged by the Tetch virus; titled "Pax Penguina," it picks up in a city now controlled by Robin Lord Taylor's Oswald Cobblepot, who has instituted a system where by criminals get licensed to ply their trade, reducing the crime rate dramatically and making the GCPD irrelevant.

Of course Jim Gordon will have none of it, he is soon making waves (as usual), stepping on toes, taking a beating, and going face to face with Oswald, all much to the consternation of Harvey Bullock. Selina Kyle and Tabathia Galliavan are flat broke and living in a crummy apartment, but looking for a way to get back into the underworld; while the Penguin is living large and in charge, with Ivy Pepper and Victor Zzaz backing him up in Barbara Keene's old club. Best of all, young Bruce Wayne is starting to prowl the streets and kick street punk's butts, taking more than a few steps on the path to becoming the Caped Crusader.

As usual, the Batman show without Batman is always at its best when the focus on the bad guys. A group of rebels, who refuse to bow to Penguin's will, break Dr. Jonathan Crane's son out of the loony bin and get him to cook up another batch of his father's fear formula, then go on a crime spree. Things take a turn, plans do not work out and by the end of the show, we get our first glimpse of young Crane in full Scarecrow costume. I must say I was impressed, it was another one of Batman's villains done right by this show. And seeing young Bruce growing up and putting the beat down on bad guys is what we've been waiting for, and it is more than past time for him to hook up with Selina. Always thought Batman and Catwoman were one of the great comic book couples. It all makes for a solid opening to the fourth season, though the producers and the writers have be aware that many series start to run out of gas at about this point in their runs.

But there are a lot of DC comic story lines to draw on, more than a few great characters from the Batman canon to introduce; I'd like to see the young Mark and Roland Desmond, both of whom are destined to become Blockbuster. And there are lots of loose ends from last year: Butch Glitzen somehow survived that bullet to the head when Barbara Gordon shot him; surely we haven't seen the last of Barbara either; Edward Nygma is not going to stay frozen in that block of ice forever; Jerome has got to make an appearance sooner or later. And there was that glimpse of Ra's Al Ghoul; all stories yet to be told.

Great work again by Ben MacKenzie and David Mazouz; Taylor still shines as Oswald Cobblepot, and Anthony Carragan is always a treat as Victor Zzaz. Carmen Bicondova makes Selina Kyle someone you root for and you'd know Michael Buscemi was the brother of a certain all time favorite actor even if you didn't know his last name.

Boring
pariisaap24 November 2022
It is going to be more and more boring. I've been waiting for batman from the beginning but now after four seasons bruce wayne is still a thin and weak teenager!!

I was also waiting for joker but he was just like a supporting character. Just showed up once and disappeared .

Why they think that every character should survive till the end of the series!! The character that is not interesting is Butch. I was interested about Barbara and Tabitha. Two hot strong girl could be really a hot couple but they let Butch in their relationship and messed it up . What is wrong with the authors ? Are they homophobia!!!!

The other unnecessary character is Leslie. I hated her from the beginning . After she appeared they turned Barbara to a monster to let the most disgusting couple ,James and leslie be together. And now after 4 season she showed up again in another stupid way !!
