Jai Lava Kusa (2017): Young Tiger NTR who is on a roll with back to back hits has came up with a different subject where he played 3 roles which is quite rare feat.The teasers and trailers have further hiked up expectations,especially Jai is the most anticipated character of the year as NTR is shows with qualities of Ravana in it.Let's see how it is.
Plot: Jai, Lava, Kusa are the three brothers whose family lives performing stage plays. Lava and Kusa are given importance while Jai is mistreated due to his stammering. A fire accident separates all three.Years later, Lava (NTR) becomes bank employee and Kusa (NTR) turns a thief. Lava and Kusa get united due to an accident. Kusa comes to help Lava with the problems at his bank with ulterior motive of stealing money from the bank but both of them are get kidnapped. The kidnapper is none other than Raavan Maharaj (NTR) aka Jai.Raavan Maharaj builds his own rowdy empire in some part of Orissa. Why he has kidnapped them and how the three brothers become one is the rest of the story.
My Review: Even though Bobby got recognized only as a commercial writer/director,his stories have strong content which could have done wonders but he chose safe way to be mass friendly.His stories like Balupu,Power has good content and in the same way,Jai Lava Kusa has great content.
The childhood episodes with stage-play backdrop are very good and both the drama and thrill are built very well in that specific part.It raises the hopes on the film but unfortunately all our hopes are shattered with a bad first half.The entire track of Lava and Kusa is not at all interesting and so clichéd.Except of NTR's performance as Lava and Kusa,entire first half is so bland.Even the so hyped introduction of Jai failed to give goosebumps.
But once second half gets started,NTR as Jai begins his stunning aura all over the screen.The whole second half may not have mass scenes but all the emotions are perfectly handled.Especially the Pre-Climax Scene where Lava and Kusa make use of the drama episodes to try and bring about a change in Jai are laudable.The stage dramas in the initial portions and later, Ravana's dark, ostentatious abode and the throne are all interesting.
In one scene Kusa (NTR) tells an unsuspecting bunch of bank employees, 'Nenu maha natunni ani audience lo positive reaction undhi'. In any other film, even with the same actor, such a self-referencing statement would seem out of place. It fits the bill in Jai Lava Kusa, a vehicle that rests solely on the shoulders of the lead actor who gives the project his all.Even though this is the first time that he has done three roles in a movie, NTR has not shown any discomfort. But NTR shows his true strength in the role of Jai. His performance is the pillar to the movie. This is one of his best performances in his career.In a cinematic exaggeration, we see Jai's simmering anger turning him into a beast. NTR as Jai or Ravana brings the ominous persona necessary to the character, rising above the many slow motion shots and heavy background score. He makes the stutter look natural than a rehearsed, over-emphasised one. His performance in pre-climax is a treat to watch and definitely gonna bring another award for him.
Music by DSP is so bad.Excpet Ravana track,other songs are terrible,Even his BGM failed to create impact .
So,Jai Lava Kusa may have not fully utilized its strong content but NTR's tremendous performance overshadows all the flaws.
