Amateurish Film Shot With Webcams, Phone Cams and Handycam Camcorders
claudio_carvalho14 August 2018
"#Captured" is an amateurish film shot with webcams, phone cams and handycam camcorders. The story of six high school students that use a pornographic site to raise money is stupid and silly. The acting is dreadful and the obnoxious characters seem to be twenty and something years; therefore they do not convince as "high school students". The deaths are ridiculous and the intestines of the fat character look awfully fake. The killer has no development and has an annoying voice. If the guy is a religious fanatic, suicide is sinful in most religions and his act does not make any sense. Last but not the least, the writer of this terrible and sexist story is the lead actress. My vote is two.

Pointless

What a waste of time. I kept waiting during the whole entire movie for there to be a twist, or at least a twist ending. None of that happened. Dreadful over acting all around. Senseless movie that is truly just a waste of time.

Not good.
dmatiik24 July 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This is a wannabe followed by sub-par acting. The fake guts was just not necessary. It looks like lasanga. It was hard to keep watching because I thought it would get better, but I was mistaken. I gave it a 2 star becuase I understand it is a low budget film. But I've seen better acting in other low budget films.

This Film Was Not a Work of Art
lavatch5 February 2018
Warning: Spoilers
This amateur film appeared primarily to be shot on a computer screen-web cam, plus several outdoor sequences filmed on a body cam.

The film portrays a group of high school kids who give live podcasts for which they charge viewers to watch them drink, strip, and talk trash. But one of the viewers is a born-again, Bible quoting serial killer, who goes on a rampage to rid the world of these young sinners.

In an attempt to be fair to the "filmmakers," I listened to the commentary track on the DVD, hoping desperately to learn what on earth had motivated them to make this tasteless film. But the only goal appeared to be to try to convey the uses and abuses of social media and texting. The commentators would typically be laughing and clowning around during the playing of their film.

Neither the film nor the commentators were successful in "capturing" me enough to endorse this movie.

While one might forgive the fact that the actors never resembled high school students, the main problem is that none of the characters were likable. It was also difficult to discern any social message or find anything redeeming from a film that was so poorly conceived.

Best part... It ENDS!
uzibah21 July 2019
The most awful movie I've ever seen. Don't waste your time and /or money.. This is complete junk. Filmed by hand cams or computer cams, a drone, etc. Plays like a high school class project. I didn't think it was suppose to be an actual movie! It was like a joke. I kept waiting for the big reveal... A punch line I guess. But nope... it continued and was so blatantly awful I just couldn't believe it was supposed to really be an actual movie. When the end came.. I was so confused that there wasn't any explanation as to the extremely bad acting and that's when I realized it was supposed to be an actual movie!! Wow.. I've seen better acting at a children's play.

Horrible

Watching grass grow is more suspenseful. The plot is ok but the acting ruins it.

If I could rate this a Zero I would...
I managed all of 10 minutes before I had to stop watching this monstrosity of amateur softcare wanna-be porn. Budget must have had a grand scale of ten dollars as none of these people could act to save their lives.

Don't waste your time on this crapfilm.

I seriously give this a ZERO.

Couldn't be more awful.
kjean-4152929 May 2019
The budget for this movie is obviously very low. The acting is terrible, but the writing is even worse. The plot is okay, I could see it done much better. Oddly only an hour and a half long in opposition to the typical 2-3 hour long films. Very cringy and hard to get through. No suspense. I have a better time watching jumpscares on YouTube then watching this video.

Why did I buy this?!
bubbles-781-60228514 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This sounded quite good so bought it on Sky Store. Watched the first 20 minutes and couldn't stand how it was shot, like from a handheld camera kind of thing. (Think Blair Witch). I fast forwarded through it and in the 1st 45 minutes I think I counted at least 4 pairs of naked boobs. (Guessing this film isn't aimed at women then?!) Fast forwarded through the whole film and didn't see anything that made me remotely want to play it and see what was happening. Watched the last 30 seconds where a guy shot himself, and wasn't even interested in why. (I guessed he was the guy that was killing everyone?) All in all, I can't exactly give it a proper rating as I didn't watch it all, but the bit I saw was enough.

The person who rated this movie a 10 was definitely involved i the making...
chanin-5461623 April 2019
This movie is terrible. Beyond. And I enjoy B movies. The acting and dialogue were so bad, but on top of that it was just boring. It could have been shortened by about 45 minutes without losing anything of value. If you want a decent naughty online camera flick, check out CAM, and skip this one. Two thumbs down.

I ADORE B HORROR MOVIES!!!
jayswife-0038527 November 2018
First off, I appreciate that the creators of this (and similarly filmed movies like Unfriended for example) are progressing along with the present "technological millennial age" that society is in. With all the "revamps" of the classic iconic horror movies/ miniseries (example: Stephen King's IT)... horror film like #captured, are more than welcome and show horror fanatics (like myself) that new ideas, methodology, and creativity are NOT DEAD OR STAGNANT.

So, yes.. the acting is seriously cheesy, sometimes way over done, sometimes blatantly not believe, sometimes a bit stiff, and bits of truly aweful... But what makes all of that, a very entertaining, fun, funny, awesome viewing experience... is knowing that this is a low budget B horror movie, and probably one of the very first films for the entire cast, crew, writers, producers, etc... We, as viewers, know this before we press the play, so personally, I cannot "judge/review" these films with the same expectations that I have for more experienced cast/crew/et all....

It is because of the newness, learning experience, and fresh creativity that makes this film (and others like it) fun, refreshing, and all around great!

The exaggerated kills scenes, the exaggerated gore, the well developed lead villain/bad guy/killer.... are personally my absolute FAVORITE. They demonstrate such creativity, adaptability, resourcefulness... I could go on for days... I have to give extreme POSITIVE reviews and recommendations based on this alone.

I give high praise, appreciation, and gratitude for cast/crew/anyone/everyone that contributed to this film in any way at all. Thank for creating and sharing this wonderful film with my family and I. We ALL throughly enjoyed it, and will recommend it to all of our friends who share our love for all genres of horror films. On a personal note.. ignore the negative reviews, close minded individuals will forever focus on the negative and try to kill the positive... so make them all eat their words and continue to entertain the masses while those few miserable close minded suffer alone in boredom and repeatition.

Thank You - Bloody Desire and family (Rev. Violent J and Mini Massacre)

I was gonna give it one star
devinbrown-190918 July 2019
Wanted to give it 1 star but it's a low budget film and one of the girls first films, at least she is trying.

As for the story, not strong but I imagine she will be making better movies if she continues.

By Far the Worst Movie I've Ever Seen
geese-2681628 July 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Even worse than Rubber!

I never review movies but I am genuinely angry that Hulu allowed me to waste time on this garbage. Terrible quality! absolutely painful to watch! Just a disgusting movie really. The spooky-religion-thing is way over used and its just a terrible basis. It was just sickening. The writing is horrific! The scariest parts of the film were the cringy writing and bad acting. The killing scenes are laughable because of how fake they look. Also, like many others have mentioned, the entire movie is literally recorded on phones, laptops, a drone, and a GoPro-like camera that the killer wears on his head (you never see the killer but in his shadow you can't help but notice the very large camera set up on his head). This movie is awful, ridiculous, and a waste of time! It was so boring! I couldn't agree more with the person who said watching grass grow was more thrilling.

One of the worst horror movies I've ever seen. Nuff said.

Also that 10 out of 10 review was definitely posted by someone attached to the film.

#Disappointing
ReelAddict13 April 2023
I regret to say that #Captured was a disappointing film that did not live up to its potential. With a rating of only 3 out of 10 stars, this movie falls far short of the mark.

The film follows the story of a group of friends who become trapped in a social media game that quickly spirals out of control. While the concept of the film is intriguing, the execution leaves much to be desired. The plot is predictable, the dialogue is clichéd, and the acting is wooden at best.

One of the biggest issues with the film is the pacing. #Captured drags on for far too long, with scenes that could have been trimmed or cut entirely. The slow pacing makes it difficult to become invested in the characters or the plot, which ultimately leads to a lack of engagement from the audience.

Furthermore, the film's attempts at commentary on the dangers of social media fall flat. While the idea of exploring the toxic nature of social media is timely, #Captured fails to deliver a compelling message or any real insight.

Despite its flaws, the film does have some redeeming qualities. The cinematography is well-done, with some visually striking shots throughout the film. Additionally, the soundtrack is decent and helps to set the tone of the film.

In conclusion, #Captured is a lackluster film that fails to deliver on its promises. While there are some positive aspects to the film, they are ultimately overshadowed by its numerous shortcomings. I cannot in good conscience recommend this film to anyone looking for a meaningful cinematic experience.

Sorry I watched the whole thing
SirenKnight7 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I don't think it's possible to spoil the plot, there isn't one. I didn't mind the cheesy acting, the cliche characters or the filming style. Those were the redeeming qualities of the film. I didn't even mind the low budget for (but knives used to cut someone usually have blood on them...)

(Sigh) The plot, a religious fanatic, who holds sexed up teens accountable without holding a single adult (coach, absent parents, teachers etc).... Nope.

His big manifesto is to kill 7 slutty teens, record it and THEN rat them out to the school? The school?

No lessons here, no overarching "evils of social media" narrative... nope. Just another stupid hot chick slasher without the sex.... And that first person killer video and ultra zealot villain voice. Ugh. Just ugh.

Oh and I almost forgot... He kidnaps them just to lecture them for 5 minutes and kill them later?? In what world? But hey, nice coffee grinder.... Thanks for the filler.

And then the almighty righteous man with a teen of his own commits suicide?

Seriously?

SERIOUSLY?

At 1 hour and 21 minutes this movie was at least 30 minutes too long.

Amateurish horror that's kinda gross...
stevenjlowe824 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
So I have to admit I kind of enjoyed this very amateur style horror a heck of a lot more than I initially thought I would going into this film. Yes i only have it 3 stars but that's 2 more than i thought I would be giving it.

The main thing I enjoyed about this film was surprisingly the found footage element of it, everything being done through the POV of cameras, phones, laptops etc. I really don't watch any found footage horror as a rule because it's not really my bag and maybe that's why I enjoyed that element of this film. It felt unique as I've not seen many movies done that way.

The acting veered from kind of acceptable to a bit cringy but honestly I've seen a lot worse acting in films than I did in this, don't get me wrong it wasn't great but it just wasn't as terrible as I thought it would be.

The story is very simple and to be honest I'm 50/50 on the ending because whilst I do enjoy having my expectations subverted (if done well) but I wanted the scumbag to get it in the end. He really was kinda gross and pathetic and of course a complete hypocrite. Mind you the characters were all pretty loathsome so I wasn't sad to see any of them go.

Overall more enjoyable than I anticipated but not a very strong film either.
