For the first time in a while, Netflix is adding no new titles today, so let’s instead take the opportunity to recap what’s gone up on the streaming site over the past week, from Saturday, August 1st to Saturday, August 8th. As that encompasses the first day of the month, there was a huge amount of fresh content added to Netflix’s library over this period. To be exact, there were 49 movies and 24 TV shows.

On the film side of things, this haul includes many an acclaimed or cult favorite flick from across the decades in all kinds of genres. The highlight is probably the entire Jurassic Park trilogy, which has proved popular with Netflix users as the first two entries have been hanging around the top 10 most-watched movies list almost ever since arriving. 80s classic fantasy flick The NeverEnding Story and its sequel were added on the 1st as well,...

With the summer starting to wind down, Netflix appear to be taking their foot off the gas a little bit when it comes to releasing high-profile original movies. Over the last few months, the streaming service has debuted a string of in-house projects that have either been subjected to widespread critical acclaim or racked up huge viewing numbers, and frequently both.

Netflix can sometimes be fairly secretive about their viewership data unless they’re shouting their success from the rooftops, and having recently revealed their Top 10 most-watched original movies ever, you can understand why they went public. If you include the reported 72 million streams for Charlize Theron’s The Old Guard that would see it claim sixth spot in the rankings, then four of the Top 10 were released between March and July of this year alone.

As good of a month as July was for Netflix subscribers, the streaming giant looks to deliver an almost as impressive August and they kicked things off yesterday with a huge drop that comprised old classics, forgotten films, underrated gems and more. And while not super heavy for horror, in particular, there were still a few notable titles that arrived on the platform yesterday that are sure to get your blood pumping and make your palms sweaty.

For instance, the original Jurassic Park trilogy – that’s Jurassic Park, The Lost World: Jurassic Park and Jurassic Park III – is now on Netflix and while perhaps not the scariest films out there, they still do have their moments of horror and hold up very well even today. The first one, of course, is a bonafide classic, but its two sequels are certainly worth a watch as well.

Meanwhile, 1991’s The Addams Family...

Netflix is out with its list of everything coming and going in August, and the list includes Season 5 of “Lucifer” and a new film starring Jamie Foxx called “Project Power.”

Other highlights include the 1991 “The Addams Family” movie; “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” starring Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet; “Jurassic Park” and “Jurassic Park III,” and the 1979 version of “Mad Max,” to name a few.

Netflix original series include season three of “The Rain,” and “Selling Sunset,” a new cartoon called “Hoops,” and the “Game On: A Comedy Crossover Event” featuring characters from “Mr. Iglesias,” “Family Reunion,” “The Big Show Show” and “Ashley Garcia: Genius in Love” — including Eva Longoria.

As we finish up July and head into August, Netflix has a bunch of great new content coming this week. Though Monday doesn’t feature anything fresh, Tuesday through Sunday will deliver a ton of exciting titles, including a lot of classic movies and a bunch of Netflix Originals.

The highlights of what’s to come in the last days of July include Transformers War for Cybertron: Siege season 1, the beginning of a new trilogy exploring the final hours of the civil war that was fought between the Autobots and the Decepticons on their homeworld, and also The Umbrella Academy season 2, in which things are set to get even weirder for the Hargreeves clan.

With the end of the month ahead of us, we now have a full list of everything that’s coming to Netflix and the various other streaming services across August. The sites will continue to do their best to keep you from straying out into the sun for the rest of the summer, too, as each of them has got a whole heap of new movies and TV shows coming to their libraries that you’ll want to check out. Mostly classic films you’ll enjoy sticking on again, but also a few much-anticipated originals, too.

Netflix‘s new releases for August 2020 should be a hell of a good time.

How else are we supposed to describe the month that features the long-awaited arrival of Lucifer season 5? Yes, ol’ Lucy finally returns on August 21 for what is now the penultimate season of the show.

While Lucifer is the main highlight of Netflix’s original offerings on August, that doesn’t mean there aren’t some other intriguing options to stream. The Rain season 3 arrives on August 6, Wizards: Tales of Arcadia on August 7, and Teenage Bounty Hunters on August 14. That’s not even to mention a potential blockbuster movie in the form of the Jamie Foxx and Joseph Gordon-Levitt starring Project Power.

In August, Netflix also continues its high-profile poaching of other worthwhile properties as well. August sees the arrival of both The Legend of Korra and Cobra Kai, opening up two worthwhile series to an even wider streaming audience.

One of the many releases just out now from Scream Factory is the 2018 film Elizabeth Harvest, from Sebastian Gutierrez. It stars Abbey Lee (The Neon Demon), Ciarán Hinds (Game of Thrones), and Carla Gugino (Gerald's Game). The key cast is joined by Matthew Beard (The Imitation Game) and Dylan Baker (Happiness). Essentially, the new, mostly one-location horror/thriller film Elizabeth Harvest is a re-telling of the classic folklore/warped fairy tale of Bluebeard, who had a nasty habit of killing all of his young, beautiful wives because they entered a forbidden room while he was traveling. "Sometimes it feels like my mind is just one question after another." IFC Films has released the chilling official trailer for an indie horror thriller titled Elizabeth Harvest, which first premiered at the SXSW Film Festival earlier this year. The film is the latest from Venezuelan filmmaker Sebastian Gutierrez and is about a woman who is about to get married to a brilliant scientist, until she finally opens the locked door in his home and discovers what's behind it. They don't reveal much in this trailer, but it seems to be a mix of body horror and psychological horror. "Elizabeth Harvest casts a spell of creeping Gothic menace as it unravels a disturbing tale of identity, obsession, and twisted love." Abbey Lee stars with Ciarán Hinds, Dylan Baker, Carla Gugino, & Matthew Beard. This looks very unsettling.
