Watchable but ruined ''Inception '' concept
Misss257 May 2021
I don't know, am I the only one who thinks this movie is a badly copied version ''Inception'' movie. I have read so so many positive reviews about this which had rosen my expectations a bit higher. But, after when I saw the lucid dream concept, one thing that quicky came into my mind is that ''Oh a bit copied, let's see the rest''. Then keep watching it, the concept is coming again and again. Besides,What can I say about the last fighting scene which is fully copied, even the director didn't make a slightest change in it. Maybe, I am saying all this because ''Inception'' is my favourite movie of all time. However, the longing for his abducted son and going any extent to find his son leads him to the lucid dream concept. And finding the son abductor and disclosure of the unexpected truth makes the movie very interesting.

Good, tense, suspenseful combination of Police Procedural & Sci Fi... Blu-ray: Excellent A:9 V:9
lathe-of-heaven27 June 2017
I'm really amazed and impressed with the consistency and the quality of many of the Korean films that I've seen. I'm no expert, that's for sure, but you can tell that they really put a LOT of effort into creating an excellent, involving story. The acting, alone, is WAY above the average American film (and I happen to have been raised by and live near San Diego :)

This primarily is a Police Procedural about a father looking for his kidnapped child, but it has some nice, low-key, Science Fiction touches that are integral to the story. You can likely guess what some of these are by the title of the film. But, what I was most impressed by was just how well done the movie was. It honestly kept me in suspense and did an excellent job in maintaining that tension throughout the entire film.

I read one external review where they dismissed this movie as a poor copy of another really well known (and quite excellent) film. I won't mention the title of it because I don't want to give too much away. But, I very much disagree with that reviewer because as masterful and stunning as the other film is that he was referring too, I truly feel that a movie should be judged on it's own as to how well it is put together and based upon the quality of it's story, direction, acting, etc. And, this one I felt was actually quite good. It's not a Sci Fi Blockbuster by any means, so please don't expect 'TRANSFORMERS'-like effects and such. No, this is mainly a powerful Police Drama along with an excellent Mystery as to what has happened to the child. Add in the nice Sci Fi elements that propel the story and I feel that you have a very entertaining movie that does an excellent job in involving the audience in not only the search for the man's son, but also the intriguing twists and turns that reveal themselves as time goes on.

If you like a good Police Drama / Thriller and also enjoy some light Sci Fi elements woven into the story, I think that there is a good chance that you might enjoy this film.

Another solid winner from the land of the morning calm
Wizard-814 December 2019
Despite usually having a lot less money than what major Hollywood studio filmmakers have, I have found that Korean filmmakers make a lot more home runs. And I am not just talking about "arty" movies, but also genre movies, which "Lucid Dream" is one example of. I admit that I wouldn't label this movie a Korean classic, since it has some faults. There are a number of times where linking footage seems to be missing (or was never filmed at all), and there are some minor plot points that are not properly explained. Also, I wish the movie gave a lot more explanation to the concept of lucid dreaming before diving directly into it. But despite such faults, the movie kept my attention throughout. There are a lot of interesting twists and turns, including the major one two-thirds of the way through (and the movie plays fair by giving the audience a few hints about what will eventually be revealed.) The characters are less stereotypical than in many Hollywood movies. There are some really suspenseful and exciting sequences., and the movie's production values look fairly decent despite not having a gargantuan budget. It's proof that if any non-American country wants to get an idea of how to attract its citizens to its homegrown movies, they should take a look at the Korean film industry. I certain wish my country (Canada) would do that!

In a dream
tenshi_ippikiookami3 July 2017
Absolutely nonsense but entertaining nonetheless, "Lucid Dream" takes a not very original idea (what is real, what is not, can we get into our dreams...) and decides to take a page of the action book. The result is an average movie, which repeats itself too much, but is saved, however, but good acting and a pace that doesn't slow down.

Dae-ho sees his son kidnapped in an amusement park. He thinks the culprit is someone that must have a grudge against him, because of his work as an investigative journalist. But, when more than three years pass and he is unable to find a clue about the whereabouts of his son or even if he is dead or alive, Dae-ho decides to ask for the help of a friend and try to find clues in his own dreams, in a state of lucid dreaming.

What follows makes no sense whatsoever. The basis of the plot, the lucid dreams and our hero remembering from his own, is as thin as it comes, and it never sells the idea that it could be a real possibility. However, as Dae-ho, Soo Go sells us the character and his plight. And the direction by Kim Joon-Sung is flashy enough to entertaining the viewer and make us forgive the shortcomings of the movie.

All in all, it is an entertaining time in front of the screen, but empty fun.

I like the movie, but why did the church not just call the police, when they got the boy?

Not bad! There is also a twist
olimanickam30 January 2020
The movie is not bad, actually sometimes thrilling to watch him look after the kidnapper. Unexpected twist but the end is a bit dull though. However I recommend it!

This movie was a version of inception, conceptually. It was very intriguing. I enjoyed following throughout. Good story, as well as acting.

I recommend watching this movie.

Didn't quite get it
phd_travel13 June 2021
Somehow I didn't get the whole premise of how all that stuff could happen by going into dreams. If you can get past that then there are some Hollywood quality effects of destruction and stuff. Go Soo is a convincing actor and looks concerned enough as he searches for his son by going into the dreams that can be shared. It's a modern show and not too long just didn't feel much for the characters because the whole set up didn't convince.

Good, but somehow feels rushed even with runtime.
namstonk24 October 2021
Decent film but lacks atmosphere. A rushed start leads to some very good middle scenes but it does then cascade into another rushed final third. The dream segments could have given it more body as you would have thought they would hence the premise but the possibilities within the dream state were overlooked.

I'm getting hooked
alci35016 June 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I'm getting hooked on the incredibly fresh Korean films on Netflix and after Pandora, this movie has proved to me that Korea knows exactly how to make the most awesome movies. Lucid Dream got me sitting on the edge of my seat from the beginning till the end and I haven't been this satisfied with a thriller in a looong time. It keeps you guessing till the end. Comparing this movie to Inception is just the most retarded thing to do. Other than entering a dream there is no comparison. And if you look at how Hollywood keeps milking the same predictable plots over and over again, its just a disgusting thing to say. I loved Lucid Dream a lot! Keep up the great work Korea, you are on the right track. I hope I can start watching these refreshing Korean movies in European theaters 1 day.

A nice weekend film
rachadkoaik4 June 2017
Warning: Spoilers
This film has the same impression as "Inception". It is were the world of lucid dreams can get people to meet in dreams and discover old memories to solve crimes & mysteries. Rather interesting. I would have easily rated this film as 8 or 9 but simply lost point at the very dull ending. I was disappointed with the ending. It would have been much more thrilling if that when he met his son, the film will show us a watch were the second hand is not moving, proving to the viewer that he is still in lucid-dreaming mode..

O'well.. too bad.

It was bad but my fault for falling for this predictible piece
anellirena2 September 2021
Just nothing makes sense. Complete waste of time. It shows that theres has been 0 research on actual lucid dreaming which doesn't make sense when literally thats the title.

Besides that, the story is really poor, not even one character is interesting and theres ño development at all.

I don't understand how this movie is even a movie, but the rating! Come on! This movie is almost offensive.

Sci Fi Mystery Thriller Korean movie
Iamnrdurjoy5 January 2019
A reporter father had to find out his missing son who was kidnapped by some unknown person. He had to face a lot of difficulties during his own investigation where he used "LUCID DREAM" .

LUCID DREAM is a dream where any person can goes to his/her any previous event through dream.

Did the father find his son? Did Lucid Dream help him? Who was/were the person/s behind the kidnapping?

You have to see the film to know about these answers.

My personal rating is 8.00 out of 10.00.

Utter Silliness
charles-limcw14 August 2019
The silliest and most mundane of 'twist' by another inexperienced dime-a-dozen so-called 'filmmaker' ... thought it wouldn't happen, but it did ... turning this thing into another pile of crap! Yuks!

A shame too, given the competent cast (that's what the 2 stars are for). Shame at the childish people behind the script n directing.

As it is, nothing more than another lousy b-grade movie not worthy even of the cheap sale bin. Avoid!!

Worst movie I've seen in a long time...
BadCash8 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The story in itself is terrible and the editing makes it even worse.

Whoever wrote the story doesn't seem to have spent more than a minute on Google looking up what "lucid dreaming" is. In this movie, it somehow means hooking yourself up to a machine to relive your memories (oh, and other peoples too!). The only connection to actual lucid dreaming is the title of the movie.

And then there's the editing. Wow. Like that time a "scientist" casually mentions "that guy does shared dreaming", and then never bothers to explain what the hell she's talking about. And the main character doesn't ask either! Or that time they - for reasons not clear - find some "murder site" in the woods with a childs toy (but apparently no body?!).

Sure, it has a twist. One that you can smell coming from miles away, but by the time it's revealed you just don't care anymore because nothing in this movie makes sense.

I'm pretty sure all of the 8-10 star reviewers were either paid or this was the first movie they ever saw in their lives. There's simply no other explanation for those reviews. Trust me - you will regret wasting your time on this piece of s**t movie.

This is the movie Inception wishes it could be!
benjaminweber6 December 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Pffft Inception, amirite? Way to ruin a cool concept Mr Nolan, you had characters who could go into shared dreams and you did what, had them make a rish boy cry?! Why not have them solve a missing child case, like this smash hit did?

Your plot twists a weak, oh so in the introduction it turns out they were in a dream within a dream? Nothing compared to finding out that the criminal mastermind behind a kidnapping was the chief of police all along, the same chief of police who deliberately stopped the case being declared a cold case because a reporter kept punching politicians! Your collapsing city was hardly impressive too! Why have a finale take place in a collapsing grey city inside the mind of someone dying and every time a defibrillator is used lightning strikes, when you could have a finale take place in a collapsing grey city inside the mind of someone dying and every time a defibrillator is used AN EARTHQUAKE HAPPENS AND A BUILDING EXPLODES?!

There are so many more subtleties I don't even have time to discuss, like the Catholic orphanage that apparently never cross-references the names of new orphans against the names of missing children (which is itself a cunning metaphor for the Irish Catholic Church stealing children from single mothers), or the plan to illegally harvest an organ from someone with a rare blood type, then just show up with it at a hospital and expect them to just perform the transplant without question being used to highlight the global transplant shortage (SIGN UP TO DONOR LISTS PEOPLE, DUH!). The hacker being able to hack into anything, EVEN DREAMS, was a cool 80s throw-back too! Solid 10/10 guys!

Engaging screenplay with unique concept.
azarrudheenrafeeq18 April 2020
When a investigative journalist lost his son, he try to uncover the mystery behind the disappearance of his son with the help of lucid dreams. The concept of dream is somewhat similar to Hollywood movie inception. The way they present the concept of dreams is very simplistic and understandable. Fast paced screenplay is the major positive thing in the movie. And the investigation scenes are really nail biting. The way they portrayed the relationship between father and son is really impressive. The climax twist is decent.

Excellent film, great South Korean production...
RosanaBotafogo8 May 2021
A mixture of sci-fi with suspense, around the mystery of the missing little boy, his father's love and unconditional determination to find him again, films with people and mainly missing children always captivate me, just because I see the disappearance, the absence without news, the presumed death is eternally painful and doubtful, worse than death itself... The ending became a confused dream, but an excellent film, great South Korean production...

Lucid Dream
sathyaaero29 May 2020
*This movie made me entertained and worth watched. The concept of " Searing his son with the help of lucid dreaming " is fresh, as this plot made the film differ from Nolan's Inception. Especially I want to say the performance of Go Soo which was really amazing when he gets emotions and anger, throughout this film his contribution was greatly supported. The cinematography and editing was also greatly supported. When we see the film, it starts with great speed, while going through the film whenever we starts things get slow, suddenly it makes us exiting by giving some exiting element. This made to watch the entire film, a great work by a Director. Only one thing here to say is, if the twist was given more strength, this will be a extraordinary film, which made me reduce 2points less. Other than this the film was really great.

Another good movie from South Korea.
deloudelouvain4 June 2023
Korean cinema, it's one of my favourites. They just know how to make good movies. I didn't know this writer/director but it's again one with a promising future. The cinematography was good and so was the acting. Korean actors just don't overact like a lot of other Asian actors do. That's just a fact, nothing else. I've watched a lot of good Asian movies and series and they almost all come from South Korea. The story here is easy to follow, a bit special and to my knowledge not done before in the sci-fi genre. So in conclusion I would say the Koreans did it again, another good movie from this country.

Much better than expected. Movie with twists and engaging till end.
naren-reviews10 October 2023
Watched the movie after seeing the average reviews and ratings. So, the expectation was at the par while started the movie. But the movie was much better than I expected. It kept engaging with twists till the end. What else we need in a thriller movie. Sci-fic is a bonus. This movie definitely deserves a better rating that 6.

Actors did a very good job... CGI is done well. Lucid dream is a tricky concept to handle with logics, but the movie handled it very well. If you like a decent thriller with sci-fic touch.. watch it ignoring negative/average reviews... the movie won't disappoint you for sure...
