"Thriller", someone must relearn what film genres are
eunbi05307 January 2018
Warning: Spoilers
"And I would have gotten away with it too, if it weren't for you meddling kids".

The acting is bad, it's no where near a thriller and the story is appalling. Everyone is so naïve, specially Emily which was supposed to be the legal guardian of her siblings. Her brother is able to hack into the PD database, but she starts working in a company that doesn't even exist? Worst, she even applied for a job there, go figure...

By the way, her relationship with that Shane guy she met him and three days later was already having sex with him and brought him home? Specially when she knew there were people after her family?

The cherry on top was "if something happens, don't go to the police, come to me and I will do something", she didn't have a job, no expertise in self-defence nor weapons, how is she supposed to defend her family from "professional killers" that the FBI have informed the police and they have proof they were around the city. "Professional killers" that's a new one.

And her boss starts babbling about her plan, how she started with a terminal patient and kept doing insurance fraud and that Emily would be the next one, it was so annoying, it felt like watching Scooby doo, but it wasn't nearly as fun as watching the cartoon.

Not at peak efficiency
bkoganbing28 December 2019
A husband and wife team of efficiency experts are murdered and their three children are left to fend for themselves. The oldest , Christa Allen hears of a job offer and packs the other two, Mary Alice Riesner and Peyton Wich off to a new town.

After that all kinds of creepy things start happening to the siblings. By that point I was bored. By the end I really didn't care.

A movie to fall asleep with.

POOR MOVIE
marmm19683 December 2020
Very bad acting! This movie is a joke. I wasted my time watching it. The ending is the worst! Good for a Walt Disney fantasy movie.

Records are not here.

Warning: Spoilers
The Chasen parents are murdered in Iowa. Emily (Christa Allen) the eldest sibling vows to protect the family. They move to Louisiana, because that is where the film company that made this production is located. She gets a job at Waypoint Research and discovers people are after them for some information the parents had.

This is a poorly constructed mystery. There are no clues to play along with. The "surprise" ending was extremely inane.Characters were bland a was the sound track. Made for TV.

Silly movie with bad acting
geoffox-766-41846728 April 2019
Should be called Film of Losers as it is so melodramatic and ridiculous with our so-called juvenile going around with shotguns and pistols firing at anything that moves, Man drops over being shot and she doesn't think of calling police. Such bad acting by most all the actors. John Schneider in a small role wasted but I guess he might have been glad to have little to do i this loser. Two stars for the name John Schneider.

Warning: Spoilers
It was okay at first, but the ending was terrible. Endings are what round a film and this didn't. The writers need to go to lessons. It made the film bad. Talk about coming back from the dead.

Ridiculous explanation
phd_travel25 January 2020
Warning: Spoilers
It's quite involving as you watch the children of slain parents fend for themselves. Christa B Allen is quite watchable as the oldest kid having to support the family and her two bratty younger siblings. But the explanation at the end is ridiculous. To let their kids go through that is absurd and the flimsy explanation at the end doesn't fill the holes or explain convincingly why they would subject them to such an ordeal.

Don't bother.

The Hunter and the Hunted
lavatch15 September 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Deep in the Louisiana bayou, a mystery unfolds around Emily Chasen and her two young siblings, Lexi and Ethan. Emily became the guardian of the youngsters after the brutal slaying of her parents, who were running a mom-and-pop operation as "efficiency experts." They had assembled a file that put their lives in danger, and the trouble has followed the children who have moved from Iowa to Glenoaks Parish in Louisiana.

It appeared too good to be true when Emily was offered a job almost point blank and without an interview at the Waypont Research Group. It turns out that it was a shell operation with Heather McClure operating a non-existent business along with her tag-team partners Shane and Ted. It is Heather who is after the precious file assembled by Emily's parents, as it will disclose how Heather has been running a life insurance scam with terminally ill people so that she can claim the proceeds from insurance companies.

Things slowly build to a head with a race through the bayou with the Heather in hot pursuit of Emily and the children. Unfortunately, the action scene was broken up at the most inopportune moment with a commercial break!

If this race-through-the-bayou scenario sounds far-fetched, it is putting it mildly when compared to the film as a whole. In good scripting, it is said that an ending must be "earned." In the case of "Family of Lies," the sudden reappearance of the parents in the bayou was a jaw-dropping moment that begs the question of why the parents would put their children through hell.

Emily's dear father once waxed philosophical with her in asserting that "chance favors a prepared mind." In this slow-paced and highly contrived work of cinema, there was no "prepared mind" at work in the conduct of the parents other than to inflict on their children the traumatic experience of a lifetime.

Seriously
pumping_iron-16 July 2023
This movie is a joke, but not a very funny joke.

Emily (Christa B. Allen) finds out that her parents were murdered and was not accidentally killed as she had been told. Immediately after learning this, she receives a call for a job interview for which she doesn't remember applying. But she agrees to the interview. Apparently she did no research on this company. If she had, she would have known the truth about it. Who on earth applies for a job with a company without doing any research on the company. She just packs up her two bratty siblings and they move to Louisiana to work for this company.

The ending is so dumb, and if this had happened to me I would be pissed forever. There would be no forgiving.

This is a slow moving boring movie with bad actors, a stupid plot and an infuriating ending.
