An underrated game that deserves your time.
totallybroketoyboy23 July 2019
Days Gone is a game that knows the story it wants to tell and expects the player to give it the time it deserves. I started Days Gone and fell out roughly 15-20 hours in, due to all the (never ending) games that were coming out. Eventually, I came back to it after a few months off and was blown away. The story is something like Red Dead II in my opinion, it's a slow burn that builds up into something truly special. This is not another FarCry or Assassins creed open world where you collect towers to open up your map, nor is it a Last of Us clone like it would you lead you believe. Maybe it's the biker in me talking and giving this a score, but this game spoke to me and will stay on my top 10 favorite games of all time. It tells a story that is actually real, with real people trying to survive in a world filled with nothing but horror. If you have a PS4 and you like single player experiences then you owe it to yourself to play this game. If nothing else, look at Sony's track record on the PS4 and know that a lot of love and time went into this game just like the rest of the AAA titles they have been putting out. Give Days Gone the time it deserves, and in return you will be given a game that is truly worth your time. I may have only given this game a 9 (only cause of some technical flaws you will encounter on the way for sure) but it is for sure worth your hard earned money and time. Keep in mind that Bend is not the biggest studio and this is also their first AAA console product, truly impressive Bend. I hope we one day get a sequel to this amazing game.

I'm Addicted. Not sure how many DAYS have GONE by.
Weirdo-Magnet2 March 2021
I am currently half way through this game (so I've been told), and I have not been disappointed. Sometimes the entire day has passed me by and I realise I've been playing for 10 hours. That's how good it is. This game is so underrated. It is kind of a slow burner. The level up system can be kind of slow, depending on how you play the game. But, this game will certainly keep you on your toes. During the day, you can travel around, choosing what to do, bumping into a few zombies, taking out camps, completing missions, occasionally bumping into a hoard. Then at night - ZOMBIES EVERYWHERE!!! It it guaranteed that eventually you will accidentally ride directly into a huge swarm, and if like me, you will scream like b*tch and your Ar*ehole will almost fly out of your mouth. It can be very unnerving travelling around during the night. The Game play is amazing, even if you decide to do nothing. It really does give you the sense of being in a post apocalyptic world. This is the first game in a long time that has held my attention and literally had me addicted. Some upgrade tips for you: BIKE - upgrade the engine so you can hold more fuel. upgrade frame to take more damage. Add ammo storage. SKILLS - to ensure you can take down enemies - I recommend upgrading your ranged weapons skills. An a particular survivor instinct which allows you to see where enemies are when using focus. Another essential is being able to repair melee weapons and another to increase the damage melee weapons give out. Enjoy. this game will not disappoint you.

I got it free on ps plus. If there was a demo i would have gladly paid full price. Game is extremely long in a good way. More stuff kept coming. Great story. Great visuals. Fun gameplay. I hope it gets a sequel.

Having now completed every difficulty and I have the platinum trophy to prove it (PS4) I cannot say enough good things about this game ... The story is deep and it draws you in , the graphics are incredible , the gameplay is fluid , an absolute winner and worthy of the highest praise I have completed the game in excess of 30 times and I am still not bored of it . Never before has a video game held my attention for so long

One of the best games of 2019

Greetings from Lithuania.

I simply loved "Days Gone" (2019). While its not on a same league as "God of War" and some few other PS4 late masterpieces, this is a one halluva great game. I highly enjoyed story of "Days Gone" - probably strongest aspect of this game. Narative of it was great, as well as acting, script and as I said - story. The open world welt harsh and brutal and the one "as comes for you" - you never feel entirely safe in this open world. There is great exploration in this games, tons of achievements and hordes. Oh yes, hordes.. When there is literally a hundred "friecks" at the same time coming to get you and you are running with your depleting stamina with a moon on your backdrop and a gas canister in your hand knowing that your bike is empty - this is where "Days Gone" kicks it in its full! What an experience. And the main hero is not a hero at all in here - more like an antihero - like it or not this is what it is, and I loved it (without any spoilers);

Overall, do not listen to critics who said this game is not good at all. Yes it is not perfect, far from it - it crashed like 3 or 4 times for me when I had literally to restart my PS4 (first time in 5 years due to game issues). The game itself might feel repetitive as well. But if you like open world zombie games with a great story, superb combat mechanics (better and very borrowed from The Last of Us), good exploration and superb and not traditional characters (but very good ones eventually) - look no further - Days Gone is a very good game, very long one and a highly enjoyable one. Definitely one of the better games in 2019 for me personally.

kevinmiller-5595925 August 2021
By no means perfect, but great gameplay, fantastic voice acting, great story that gets you really involved, brutal combat and overall this is one of the best zombie games you'll ever play. I genuinely want a sequel, and to replay this one again now!

Something's Off.

It's weird because Days Gone definitely looks like a PlayStation Exclusive, but, to me anyway, it doesn't really feel like one.

Days Gone is easily one of the best looking games to ever come out on PlayStation 4, and nobody can dispute that. It's just a fact. But time and time again we've been proven that good graphics do not make a game, and the truth is, Days Gone, although remarkable in presentation, is extremely bland in its core.

The gameplay is extremely repetitive. Tons of people are defending the game by pointing out a bunch of other repetitive games that didn't get as much critical bash as Days Gone, but I feel like that's kind of dumb.

When you're buying a game, you're buying an experience, and different games provide different types of experiences. So while a game like Assassin's Creed Odyssey can take advantage of its repetitiveness to fuel its grind-rewarding experience, if you take that same rinse-and-repeat and try to apply it to a game where the reward system isn't nearly as satisfying and there's a loading screen between every single cutscene, it's simply not going to work. It's gonna feel like you're doing extra work for nothing and that's how I felt playing this game most of the time.

Days Gone's story is fine, but long to a fault. I feel like this game would've benefited immensely if it were shorter and more straight to the point. Not only because it would get rid of some of that repetition, but also because the developers could focus on making sure that the characters and the world were fleshed out enough to make us believe in it, and not just throw us some boring flashbacks to make sure we know that 'these characters love each other'.

Don't get me wrong, Days Gone is far from being a 'BAD' game. But these fanboys calling people who didn't like the game 'haters' got to understand something: It's completely okay to dislike something.

It just so happens that some people want something more out of a video-game than biking to a location, killing 10 dudes, cutting to a loading screen that's proceeded by a cutscene that's almost as long as the loading screen that follows next.

To me, Days Gone is not a bad game, it's just a game that had the potential to be remarkable, but that got stretched out to the point of losing itself almost completely, and that you have to spend 35+ hours trying to find it.

Don't Believe the lies...
finman-8853330 April 2019
1: Fantastic game 2: Don't believe the rating of below 7 because they are most likely Xbox trolls who cant stand the fact that they don't have it (don't believe the lies) 3: Yes there are some frame rate drops but only every now and then as expected and this will be fixed by updates 4: Great mechanics, great graphics, great storyline and characters as well as enemies and combat system 5: Just another Sony masterpiece! 6: Stop reading this review and go buy it!!!

Great game but...
marcus-j-810-37153022 September 2020
Poor narrative/story Awful voice acting by Sam/Deacon. Absolute worst enemy AI in a game for this generation. Buggy and sometimes so bad programming you can't help to laugh The worst Sony exclusive to date

If you have played Rockstars games like GTA and Red Dead this is a joke compared to the game quality. Or Far Cry. It's a fun game and worth getting cheap. But as I said not many things click right in this game which is sad because I really enjoyed it overall. So my criticism is more to the developers who could have polished this into a much better game in my opinion.

Hot mess (playing on PS4 pro)
bigdaddyalex4122 November 2019
Close to a year after release, this game is sadly still too much of a mixed bag for me to consider it good. The many (many) many glitches are still present and can render the game unplayable at times, making it a very frustrating experience. Believe me there are some amazing mechanics in this game, especially on the survival side, that can really make the game shine. But sadly, every time you start getting lost in its loot-repair-look-for-gas system, the game goes out of it's way to remind you that it was rushed through development and is at it's core broken and dated. A loading for every (pre-rendered) cinematic in a game where you'll watch a couple every hour is already irritating, but the game also only has two different times of day to alternate between and forces you to alternate between them depending on the mission you're playing, so add another loading before or after watching a cinematic (that had to load too!). The dialog is god-awful and glitchy. Many times my character started screaming in the middle of infiltrating a camp, as if he was on his bike riding. I had boozer repeat the same line three times because i made the mistake of saving my game, and once i was forced to look at all the interactions i had missed by not going to his camp for a while... one after the other. So two pre-rendered cinematics plus one in game. I'm sorry Bend Studios, that is not how you make a game.

Is it the most underrated game ever
phil-duffy96 January 2023
In my opinion of playing games for 30 years is that this is the most underrated game I have ever played in my life. The visuals, the voice acting the story absolutely suck you in to the world. Very good gameplay. Not like any post apocalyptic world game. It hasn't a different feel from the off, keeps you on the edge in some tense missions. Th main thing with this game is the storytelling, it's brilliant with very likeable characters and it's very well acted out by the cast. The kind of game you could piece the cut scenes together and make a movie out of and watch and say that's better than 99% of movies being made today. Great game and it would be criminal if they don't make a sequel considering the money they throw at bad bad titles.

This is the first survival, action horror rpg I have ever played. And coming from a die hard survival horror and rpg fan, this game is amazing. Do not. I repeat, do not believe the negative reviews. They are haters. This game deserves a 9.0 at least.

it was fun
merem113 March 2021
I liked this game. It was pretty good. It was fun to explore the world of it and those infected horde battles were the best part of the game. It's a good looking game. I had some issues with the pacing of the game. There were some things that could have been better. I enjoyed my time playing the game.

Another Sony Masterpiece
mathieudufault28 April 2019
Though this game does have a few technical glitches here and there, at the games core it is an amazing and emotional experience. The game plays well with intense firefights that control well and fun freaker (zombie) horde gameplay that chills you to the bone. When you put aside the technical glitches and look at the game from a story and gameplay aspect it is an amazing journey and well worth your time. 8/10 due to the minor glitches and minor frame drop I've experienced though a 9/10 would have been where I placed it if these small technical issues weren't present. Though these technical issues can always be patched and most likely will be.

Fun game with a good story and a nice soundtrack. Only some small gripes, the bike eats fuel like an APC and a few graphic glitches but nothing serious

Terrible writing
christoph-backoefer29 May 2019
While the graphics and world are superb, the writing is by far the worst of any game in recent memory. The main character is an unrelatable psychopath, the portrayal of women is horrendous, and the amount of exposition is frankly unreal.

If it wasn't for the impeccable technical execution, this game would have received 2/10 from me. It doesn't deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as The Last of Us.

This could have been a great game, but it is let down by its abysmal writing.

diggerz03927 May 2019
I got a ps4 for this. Also the last of us.

This game is brilliant. I hope they make a sequal in more built up area.

The story is intense and the graphics are even more so if you have 4k. Im glad this was th3 first game i played on ps4 as it has set an example that PS4 make better solo games.

A lot of cut scenes which is good amd the action is brilliant. When you come across a hord...especially when you hardly have any equiptment, youll poo yourself

Buy it!

Fun open world apocalypse that gets better as you make progress.
cruise0116 February 2020
Days Gone (4 out of 5 stars).

Days Gone is an entertaining and fun open world action horror adventure game that follows a bounty hunter Deacon a drifter. Deacon is a drifter that is struggling for survival in a post apocalyptic world that's infested with infected with zombie like people, bad guys who are trying to survive, and a cult that are disturbed and insane. Days Gone is a fun game. I had trouble getting into it when I first started.

The graphics were a bit iffy at first. The opening cutscene cut right into the chase without you being emotionally invested into the characters. The opening scene of Deacon, and his wife Sarah, and Boozer who are trying to escape a war torn city. As the infected population is increasing. Two years later, Deacon is on the search for Sarah. While him and Boozer are drifters from one camp to another. Just doing their camp chore work. Such as looking for a guy who went awol. Or helping them defend their camps from other bad guys or cults. I think the first half of the game is hard to get into. Cause the missions were repetitive and similar. After Deacon comes across Iron Mike's camp. The plot finally starts making progress with its storyline. With Iron Mike's camp facing against the threat of Skinners cult group. And Deacon conflicted with where his loyalties lies.

The game is fun after getting past the first half of the game. Driving your bike in the open world is fun and scary at times. You may come across bad guys who will plan traps to get you off your bike. Or the scary threat of running into a horde of undead. Which is like a scene from World War Z movie. As an army of dead are chasing after you. You better hope you wont fall off your bike or drive into a dead end.

The missions become fun after a while. Your character goes on a rescue mission to rescue one of their own. Or planning a defense mission on trying to save your camp. I enjoyed the main missions more. The bounty hunter missions was becoming repetitive. Finding the guy you need to go after and it always ends in a motorcycle bike chase. Which is boring.

It is a long game if your trying to do the main missions. Like I said the first half is slow moving. It eventually picks up. And you can not put the controller down after that. The plot is good. Deacon is on the search for his wife. While the side missions of Deacon getting information from a guy in a research facility. Informing him about the undead. Which gets really good in the end. Plus there is a secret ending foreshadowing what is to become if a sequel happens.

The graphics get better throughout the game. The details of the open world. The game play is fun. It does get annoying when certain guns are weaker than others. Like you need to buy an upgraded weapon for certain enemies. Which means you have to do the optional missions to build your camp trust.

The story is good. Slow at first but ends in a fun action packed way. I would love to see a sequel from this game. And see where the story goes next.

Overall, Days Gone is a good action packed fun game. It has some intense and scary moments of being chased or the thrills of fighting other bad guys in this open world. The first several missions are repetitive and boring.
