Eminem at his mother
Horst_In_Translation4 March 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This is the music video for the song Headlights from 2014, so it has its 5th anniversary this year. This was directed by now oscar winner Spike Lee, but the star here is of course Aminem aka Marshall Mathers. It runs for slightly over 4 minutes and is a song in which he songs about the difficult relationship with his mother, so you could say there is some more depth and significance to this one than many other times for Eminem and you wouldn't be wrong. At least not completely. There's also cringeworthy scenes when we briefly see Eminem in drag sitting in some talk show apparently impersonating his mother. And there's lines like "Ma I still find you beautiful because you're my mom" Oh well. It is what it is. You should not expect great lyrics here admittedly. Eminem's more restrainer rapping this is still okay to watch and this is probably among the better stuff he has done in recent years, but that is mostly because most of what he has done ince 2010 is pretty bad sadly. I also kinda liked the voice of Nate Ruess here, shame I never came across him so far. My loss I guess. Eventually, Spike Lee's style is not really easy to recognize here, if he even has something like that. He made this music video by giving it the approach of some kind of home video and that its the subject I suppose. I think it is better to watch this music video than just listen to the record here. But overall, the best choice is probably to skip it. I give it a thumbs-down.

too delicate subject

It was the first song of Eminem who I listened. In fact, the only to present. The motif was, off course, Nate Ruess and , unfortunatelly, remains the only. Not about hip hop less taste in my case it comes. But something who I saw as exhibitionism. Sure, maybe I wrong. But it seems a very eccentric open of personal aspects. But the part of Nate Ruess remains good. In same measure, same the colaboration between two artists.
