Exclusive: Grantchester and Greyhound star Tom Brittney’s Wild Nest Pictures is teaming up with Trevor Birney’s Belfast-based production company Fine Point Films (Mea Maxima Culpa: Silence in the House of God) to develop a TV drama based on the controversial 2018 arrests of Birney and fellow Northern Irish journalist Barry McCaffrey.
The two men had investigated the unsolved massacre of six innocent men by Loyalist paramilitaries at a small rural pub in the village of Loughinisland in 1994.
The drama will follow the events of 2012, when McCaffery and Birney were working with Oscar-winning director Alex Gibney (Enron) and Fine Point Films on No Stone Unturned, a documentary based on the massacre, when they anonymously received unredacted police files that would help them prove collusion between the police and the killers. After the release of the film, McCaffery and Birney were arrested in an unlawful police operation for alleged theft of...

NBC has put in development No Stone Unturned, a drama inspired by Steve Jackson’s book No Stone Unturned: The True Story of the World’s Premier Forensic Investigator, from writer Drew Lindo; Blindspot creator Martin Gero; and Universal TV, where Gero and his Quinn’s House production company is under an overall deal.
Written by Lindo, in No Stone Unturned, the NecroSearch international investigation team – a group of the nation’s top scientists, specialists and behaviorists – use the latest technology and most advanced techniques to solve “unsolvable” crimes outside the justice system.
Lindo and Gero executive produce. Universal TV is the studio.
Lindo was a writer-producer on all four seasons of the CW’s Reign and recently served as co-executive producer on The 100. He previously teamed with Gero on The Service, which sold to Fox with penalty in 2019 via Quinn’s House and Wbtv. Lindo is...

Randy Houser remembers exactly where he was when he decided to throw it all away. Following a string of populist country radio hits, he became fed up with how he was expected to perform them live: shored up with various computerized bells and whistles that were meant to help him compete with his peers and their outsized live shows.
“We were playing along to all these tracks,” Houser says. “I walked out there one day and felt like I was a freaking puppet. I called my manager and said, ‘Take all these damn machines back.

Randy Houser capped off release week for his new album with a performance on Good Morning America, where he sang “No Stone Unturned.” Magnolia, Houser’s fifth studio album, is out today. Earlier in the week, the Mississippi native celebrated the release with an intimate Monday night show at Third Man Records’ Blue Room in Nashville, then flew over to Los Angeles for a Wednesday night show with iHeartCountry.

Oscar-winning documentary filmmaker Alex Gibney (No Stone Unturned), who took producing reins on Divide and Conquer: The Story of Roger Ailes, told a panel at the New Yorker Festival Sunday that while the late founder of Fox News — whose career was derailed by sexual harassment claims in July 2016 — is gone, his influence remains deeply ingrained in the network he created, and in society.
“The creation of the mighty house [of Fox News] was impressive and terrifying,” Gibney told the crowd following a screening of the film that hits theaters Dec. 7. “His evil genius was that he came to Fox News with an entertainment perspective…and an insight into the American character. The ministry of propaganda was privatized as Fox News. Once you get people hooked on rage,” Gibney added, “you can sell it over and over again.”

Exclusive: On a late summer morning in Belfast just over a month ago, more than 100 police officers raided the homes and an office of journalists Trevor Birney and Barry McCaffrey, both of whom had worked with the Oscar-winning documentary filmmaker Alex Gibney on 2017’s No Stone Unturned, a revelatory, deeply unsettling film about a June 18 1994 mass shooting in a Northern Ireland village pub. Two men, their identities hidden beneath balaclavas, had opened fire, killing six patrons and wounding more. The paramilitary loyalist group Ulster Volunteer Force was immediately suspected, but until Gibney’s film, grounded in his own investigation and that of producer Birney and former Irish News reporter McCaffrey, the terrorists, including the primary gunman, had not been named.

Randy Houser has announced plans to release his new album Magnolia this fall, and with the news comes another song from the singer-songwriter, the thoughtful ballad “No Stone Unturned.”
The 12-track album, which was produced by Keith Gattis and recorded at his studio in East Nashville, derives its title from the nickname of Houser’s home state, Mississippi. Houser, who began his career penning hits like Trace Adkins’ “Honky Tonk Badonkadonk,” co-wrote all the songs on Magnolia, with “No Stone Unturned” following “What Whiskey Does” as the second release from the album.

One of the biggest surprises on Oscar nominations morning on January 23 was the absence of “Jane” from Best Documentary Feature. The film recounts the life and career of famed primatologist Jane Goodall, and going into the announcement it had actually been our front-runner to win the award based on the combined predictions of thousands of awards watchers at Gold Derby. Despite that omission, however, its script by Brett Morgen is the overwhelming favorite to win Best Documentary Screenplay at the Writers Guild Awards on February 11. It has leading odds of 1/10. But Morgen will have to watch out for one of the WGA’s favorite documentarians, Alex Gibney (“No Stone Unturned”).
As of this writing more than 1,200 users have made their WGA Awards predictions. That includes nine Expert journalists we’ve polled from top media outlets, who are unanimous that “Jane” will win: Thelma Adams (Gold Derby), Erik Davis (Fandango), Edward Douglas,...

‘No Stone Unturned’ Trailer: Oscar Winner Alex Gibney Seeks the Truth Behind an Unsolved Mass Murder
Known for making explosive investigative documentaries, Oscar winner Alex Gibney attempts to uncover the dark truth behind a 20-year-old pub massacre during a World Cup viewing in Northern Ireland. Though investigators described the crime scene as a ‘forensic goldmine,’ no one was ever arrested for the murders. In “No Stone Unturned,” Gibney continues his legacy of hard-hitting conspiracy documentaries that includes “Going Clear: Scientology & the Prison of Belief,” “Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room,” and his Oscar-winning film, “Taxi to the Dark Side.” The new trailer hints at a massive government cover-up, evidence tampering, and secret political maneuvers.

It’s a line we’ve all heard before, and it’s almost always a lie. But this time it’s true. Alex Gibney’s documentary “No Stone Unturned” is actually The Movie They Didn’t Want You to See. Back in April, “No Stone Unturned” was supposed to have its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival, a venue that’s championed much of Gibney’s work in the past.

A peculiar subject for a film by the maker of big-picture, high-profile documentaries about Enron, WikiLeaks and Scientology, the 1994 slaying of six Catholics in a small town in North Ireland is a crime whose evils seem indistinguishable (for a viewer on this side of the world, at least) from countless others of its time. It came toward the end of the Irish Troubles but was in no way a culminating event; its aftermath involved layers of coverup, but that was the norm for such cases. In No Stone Unturned, Alex Gibney may want to replicate what he did so...

Maybe no one is getting too sentimental about Ben Carson’s presence in the public eye, but it’s easy to understand why people might miss the levity his frequent slip-ups allowed. Luke Walker’s documentary, “PACmen,” seeks to remind us of what has turned out to be, bizarrely enough, a much simpler political time.
The film, which will run as part of Hot Docs, follows the super Pac behind Carson’s run for the Republican nomination. (Again, simpler times.) The filmmakers had complete access to the people on Carson’s team, following his stunning rise and fall.
