Good
stfaustina15 May 2020
Well done, well made, but kinda of took a huge nose dive at the end. The movie was atmospheric and brought you through a very solemn place but at the end it just did a 180 and had this band playing music like at a Mega Church. No disrespect to the band or song. Watch the movie, it's good and profound but the band at the end just shattered all the poignancy that the director effectively delivered. The band was just totally out of place. Hopefully the next movie won't have such a 180 at the end.

But a good movie to watch.

There own book of martyrs
bkoganbing25 June 2019
No doubt about it, Christianity and other religions or any kind of philosophy says that there's something beyond the material world had a bad time during the years of the Soviet Union. Tortured For Christ is based on the experiences and writings of Richard Wurmbrand who spent years in a Romanian prison for doing evangelical work in his country.

His experiences in a way parallel Nelson Mandela's in his country. The documentary is done and narrated with sincerity and reverence.

Should be seen in more than church basements.

Thought Provoking!
killingcomputers3 January 2019
I once heard a pastor ask: If Christianity ever became illegal, would there be enough evidence to convict you? This story really puts that question in perspective! I look at people today, myself included, and wonder how many would have what it takes to withstand what these people went through.

"Thank You" to Mr. Wurmbrand for documenting/sharing his experience.

Well made -- Best Christian Dramatized Documentary
romanstnt26 August 2019
Being a Christian, I'm usually not a fan of Christian movies due to subpar acting and shallow storytelling. However, this dramatized documentary is an exception. Refreshingly gritty, unapologetically faith-filled and at times bloody, it tells the story of those who sacrificed themselves to spread the love of the God whom they worshiped and experienced intimately. They testify of their savior, Jesus, in whom they unwavering trust even in the midst of horrific torture. Now this is faith!

No Joel Osteen "c"hristianity here.

"I have found truly joyful Christians in only three places: the Bible, in the Underground Church, and in prison." There is a living faith that enabled them, "to kiss their prison bars and rejoice in the fellowship of Christ's suffering." R. Wurmbrand

Great illustration of persecution Christians endure under Communism
nichieagle6 March 2018
We just went to see this movie, and I have to say that although it's graphic, it barely depicts the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the suffering of Christians under the Communist regimes past and present. Those living in free democratic countries need to see this to be conscious of what "freedom" actually is like when God is out of the equation.

It has to be a 10

If for no other reason than to honor the sacrifices made by believers through the centuries for their faith, Richard Wurmbrand being one of them. I had the privilege of hearing Richard Wurmbrand in the 1970's while I was in college studying for the ministry. He made an indelible impression on my life. Of course, I read the book and learned of a love that few of us know or experience.

Above ideological grime, a star
Vinny3726 September 2019
Watched this on tubitv. The film itself is very moving and insightful, especially from one who had moved from atheism into Christianity so understood both worlds. To be fair his critique of communism should have been qualified as 'atheistic' communism-theistic communism can exist, in which people are recognised as images of God, whereas atheism is self-annihilating-its prism views others as meaningless and only the useful have any claim to care. But as Wurmbrand said, many believe that they are atheists but are not-many care for the useless.

Being filmed in the very places he lived and suffered adds to the realism. Many will find the heartless brutality a cringe factor, although I found the songs at the end more so, since one addressed request to the son not the father (though with some profound content, martyrs can make lousy theologians), and 'In Christ Alone' has numerous misunderstandings at a theological level, and phrases (eg 'took on flesh') to mystify if possible even the elect, failing at a trinitarian level.

Brace yourself for a rugged film (no foul language but foul ideas), but perhaps switch off as soon as the film ends, though the singer sings bad songs well.

Truth is Hard to Watch
icreate-128 November 2020
This movie is hard to watch, but it tells the story of Richard Wurmbrand, who started Voice of the Martyrs. He was imprisoned in Communist Russia in the 1940s only because he preached the Gospel of Jesus Christ to Russians.

This is a powerful movie and all Christians MUST watch it. If Christianity is ever banned in America -- and it will, if we allow it -- would you stand up for Christ? Would you be able to withstand torture? This is like what the first century Christians went through. They'd rather die than deny Jesus. Would you?

Watch this movie and see how strong your faith really is. If we don't learn from history, we are doomed to repeat it. The blood of the martyrs is the seed of the church.

Excellent Film!
thorhammer-261054 April 2019
This film portrays well what Richard Wurmbrand went through in a Communist prison. Though the novel delves deeper into what he went through, this is still a great medium to get a glimpse of what many Christians went through (and still go through around the world) for sharing the Love of Jesus Christ. The message of this film is so clear. Love your enemies & pray for those who persecute you, just as Christ did. Highly recommend this film for believers in Christ to help empower and embolden their faith, and for those who don't believe this film shows how much Christ loves you, and thoughyou may not know him or you may hate him, Christ loves you deeply and wants to have a personal relationship with Him.
