Run, Iris, Run...Away. Far, Far Away.
Anonnamus18 January 2020
For a filler episode, it had potential to be a good one. Transferring Barry's powers to his wife is something that perhaps could have worked were Iris a better character. The actress that plays her is beautiful, but has the emotional depth of a tree stump. With every episode she just gets more annoying. She has zero actual skills that could help the team, no science background, no above-average intelligence, no medical knowledge. Other than bossing the team around, she has very little value. The script and storyline isn't the problem, it's the actress and lack of character development.

The supporting characters may have been even worse than Iris's whining. The second guy who got the fire powers...are you kidding me? "GIMME MY MONAAAAY!" Was he specifically told to act like a reject member of an amateur improv group? What was that even? The only saving grace to this episode was Matthew Kim, and I hope I get to see a whole lot more of him. I like filler episodes, and this could have been a cute one. Instead it highlighted just how weak a character Iris West is and always has been. It amazes me how little chemistry there is between the title characters and their spouses (Oliver and Felicity included). I love Team Flash, but please...run away, Iris.

Warning: Spoilers
The only good part of this episode in my opinion was Harry and his slightly evil hat. However I'm not saying iris didn't do a good job, however I don't like this idea of her being the team leader. Whenever the decisions and directions need to be stated it's usually Barry that does it, how does that translate to iris being the team leader? I understand she's there for support but the leader? That's a bit far fetched.

REBOOT The Flash!
rsvp32111 April 2018
I'd given up on this series last season when I saw how every week the writers were ruining it, but watched this episode to see if maybe they got back on track....

NO! They've gotten much, much worse!

As with The Arrow, this series cannot recover from the mess it's in, by new and improved scripts.

The only way to save The Flash is to end this series this year, fire all writers and actors, and reboot The Flash next year to try again...**Scripts to be written by writers that actually read the comics!**

Time for a change in command...

Warning: Spoilers
So I've been on a bit of a hiatus in regards to reviewing the DC shows, but after watching this weeks Flash episode I felt compelled to give my thoughts. I'm not going to give a rundown of the episode per se, but just my thoughts about the obvious controversial points.

So this week we saw Iris inherit Barry's powers temporarily while Barry was demoted back to regular human. I must admit that for the most part, it was pretty cool seeing Iris as a speedster and I loved the purple lightening. It was also good to see Iris struggle in her first speedster outing, resulting in Cisco saving her from death. I was so worried that with how pro-Iris this season has been that they'd make her better and faster than Barry. Thank God they didn't! And her inexperienced showed in that scene, which I appreciated.

Now to the negatives. I'm sick and tired of having Iris be the leader of Team Flash when she literally has the least credentials of the whole group. I like Iris, but hearing her say "I'm the leader of this team" and Barry say to Iris "You're the boss" were HUGE negatives. Why is she always the one that comes up with the solutions? And why does she get to be the leader of BARRYS TEAM????? I think for Season 5, the writers finally have to embrace Barry as the leader of Team Flash, let him call the shots because it is what this show desperately needs. Iris is at her best when she's the teams media connection (through the newspaper), and they should return back to that.

Now the real star of this episode is Tom Cavanagh as Harry. His storyline of creating the thinking cap made this a good episode to watch, not great, good. I loved how we got to see how DeVoe is affecting Harry. Harry is used to being the smart one, so he's taking DeVoe's presence as the super intelligent villain very personally. And I love it. The scenes between Harry and Cisco added towards the positivity of this side arc.

This was a decent episode, but it's time for Barry to take control of Team Flash. Enough leader Iris. 6.4/10

Just please, stop promoting iris more than it is necessary
eslamammar-9957115 March 2018
From the beginning of season 4 this madness began. Iris has no qualifications to lead team flash, no experience in the field, no measurable intellectual capabilities, and definitely lack the audience passion for her to be even on screen. It funny and disasters how she became even more important than barry!!

The Fire Within
ThomasDrufke14 March 2018
I've talked about this numerous times over the years, but I guess I shall address it again since I couldn't stop thinking about it after watching the episode. There's nothing wrong with a one-off/filler/villain of the week episode, that is, if it's good enough to make you forget and not care about removing yourself from the central plot. But after a week without DeVoe last week, I expected there to be at least a brief appearance from whomever was disguised as DeVoe tonight. Well, that wasn't the case, even with all the clips of him in the "previously on" part of the intro.

Sure, the episode is most definitely still focusing on the bus metas and DeVoe got several mentions. But because I've been so up and down on him this year and his various looks, I think we could have used an appearance from him.

This episode dealt with Iris taking on all of Barry's speed after a meta, known as Melting Point (another bus meta), accidentally transferred Barry's powers to her. There wasn't a whole lot to dislike about this change of pace, but I never found myself getting off my couch and cheering for her either. If anything, it was a fun one-off to reminisce about some other time, but perhaps entirely forgettable in the end.

The cliffhanger from the week before with the supposed Iris & Barry descendant wasn't addressed at all, and there was no sight of DeVoe. So for me, this episode was just a bunch of nothing without much meaning or implications behind it. Hopefully next week will deal with DeVoe in a much more head-on manner.

Really???
arimatic14 March 2018
What is Iris purpose on the show ? Isn't she suppose to be a writer ? Why or how did she suddenly become the "leader of the team"? It's really making the flash unbearable to watch.

Back to Basics
bmr3614 March 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Not sure where all the reviews wanting reporter Iris back are coming from considering this episode is quite literally leading back to that journey. I loved the callback to her Flash blog and that she's writing again. I hope we see her blog turn into the Central City Citizen.

I wish we had seen more of Barry without his speed and less of Ralph whining (again). Don't like how Ralph complained about Iris not putting her life on the line when she's done so multiple times over the course of this season let alone the previous 3 seasons...

Enjoyed Harry/Cisco and get the feeling Harry is going to turn into Eowells again somehow which would be enjoyable for me!

I want to see Mystery Girl again! Let her meet Iris and Joe already please.

'We are the flash'
fletchervanburen18 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
One of the most annoying things Iris has said in the past now makes a little bit of sense with her now being a speedster. I wish they would have stayed with this storyline for more than one episode though, having her lose her speed right at the end of the episode feels like a waste of an interesting storyline that would make this season feel less boring. Truthfully, I feel like this (for a filler episode) was interesting and I'm glad it was made even if I strongly dislike Iris.

Savitar should have killed Iris
mike_ian9521 March 2018
I've never written a review before, and i kept myself from writing one after the terrible "Girls night out" but this episode feels like rock bottom. Man o man i keep wondering how the show would have been with Iris being killed by Savitar. How can (with all respect) a journalist without any knowlegde be a team leader of a team full with meta's and scientists?? It just feels like the writers are constantly putting this feminism crap down our throats. Plz keep politics away from tv-shows.

Sincerely, a frustrated fan from the netherlands

Best episode of the season
crystalkinney-1388214 March 2018
Along with last week's enter flashtime, the flash seems to have finally found it's footing. Not only did Candice Patton deliver, Iris got more character development in one episode than Ralph has had all season long. Iris is a natural born leader and hero with or without a costume and I'm glad she rediscovered that last night and that it helped reignite her passion for journalism. Ralph just seems like a stagnant character who doesn't show growth. Apart from that, the remainder of season 4 looks promising than I had initially thought. Fingers crossed it continues to deliver like these last two episodes

What is peoples' problem?
RBehndleman12 February 2022
This episode was just fine. Not the best, but not bad. There is no basis for these 1 star ratings. Just a bunch of whiners. Get over it folks. And why all the hate for Iris? I just don't get it. The only thing I don't love is that I wanted more forward momentum with Devoe. But every season has its filler episodes.

Probably the worst episode of the flash I've seen.
matthewrhill15 March 2018
The episode truly is awful. The show is called "the flash", meaning it's about BARRY ALLEN - not his gf. And what was with that line at the end, "It's up to you." when Barry tells Iris it's up to her if she wants to give up "her powers". I'm sorry but no, they are Barry's powers, not hers. This was truly a filler episode that almost made me want to stop watching the series period. I mean, if Iris would have kept his powers that would have ended the series for 90% of the fans right then and there.

You guys are kind of showing your a$$...
rossdanbruen25 March 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Iris gave up her own professional ambitions to support her husband's work fulltime and you idiots are somehow crying "FEMINIST AGENDA" and wishing her dead. You're really showing your a$$es here. This chick is not a problem as much as that tired avoidable frame job storyline was. Is Barry's wife supposed to be a reporter and be showing up uninvited at fights with a microphone and camera so Barry has to save her Lois-Lane-Style? That'd be worse. Is Barry's wife supposed to be working in an office that has nothing to do with superheroing that we cut to, or if we don't, we just hear her complain about her office politics to Barry while he's trying to save the city every week? That'd be worse. Is Barry not a person, but a blank slate for you guys to project yourselves onto and you want him to stay single and bone hot girls every other week, and you're pissed he actually moved on with his personal life and got married? Last week's Flashtime was a filler episode too, although it was probably the best episode of the season, far better than this one. I just wish they would've taken the fire powers from Karofsky so he could be sent to regular jail, and perhaps as a twist, given them to Iris so a non-villain has those powerful abilities. That would've actually been ballsy, if only for a few episodes. Instead of soap opera stuff and weak liberal sauce, I wish this show had guts to do things we really haven't seen. Oh, and we've seen girlfriends getting killed off to make the hero more motivated before. (Showing your ass - Definition: Unknowingly embarrassing yourself while revealing your bias and just generally being stupid)

Worst episode of The Flash
arrowverse2548615 March 2018
I literally made an imdb account just to make a review about this episode. This was by far the worst episode of the Flash in my opinion. I used to really like Iris' character in the earlier seasons, but this season she started to become a little annoying. Despite that, I still enjoyed her character. But in this episode I hated her character. This is like Arrow season 4 when Felicity started to become a much more annoying character. There is no reason for Iris to be the team leader. There were some decent parts of the episode, like the subplot of Harry's thinking cap. Despite that this episode was thoroughly disappointing. After such an amazing episode last week this episode was painful to watch.

She Did What She Had To Do!!!!!
sophielwatson14 March 2018
Hands down the best episode of the entire season. It was so great to see Iris stepping up to save Central City, and I'm excited to see that they're bringing back her journalism arc! The only flaw was that the Harry and his thinking cap subplot took up some valuable time that could've gone to developing Iris's powers more, since it seemed a little rushed as if they were trying to fit so much into one episode. But overall, Candice Patton did a phenomenal job in this role as she always does, and I can't wait to see more of Iris being the team leader.

Candice/Iris Never Disappoints
gthand12114 March 2018
Candice Patton killed it as usual and we finally got some answers about Iris' job at CCPN. I don't understand why so many people are upset considering they were the ones complaining about Iris no longer being a journalist and now that we see her going back to her roots while still leading the team, it seems people are still unhappy. The explanation both made sense and allowed us to understand what Iris had been feeling since Savitar. I don't know if you all know this but Iris West-Allen is the leading lady and the most important person to Barry Allen so it's only natural she gets a lot of focus. Writers aren't "trying" to make her important or force her character onto any of you. Fact is, they probably don't care whether you like Iris. They love her, as do many of the fans. All in all, a great episode!

A new TV show maybe ?
caravindan199415 March 2018
Pathetic episode. I really do not know why the want to portray Iris as a leader when she has no quality to be there in the first place. Above that they really gave her powers now ?

If they really want to give her that much importance, they could perhaps start a new TV series with Iris being the central character. I don't even feel like I am watching a superhero show now-a-days. With all the experience the team has, they make it look like it can't function without Iris. Damn. Please go back to basics where the focus was on original team Flash and not this woman.

The Iris character development need a change doesn't feel organic anymore
burrdmizzle14 March 2018
Why does it feel like the writers of The Flash are trying too hard to make Iris relevant it makes us fans hate her (character) not person even more just stick to an enthusiastic writer she first was. How can a journalist all of a sudden become this tech savvy and leading a science oriented crime fighting superhero team makes no sense!

One of the best episodes they've done!
mariam_paiwand14 March 2018
Candice Patton and Grant Gustin delivered amazing performances in this weeks episode! The storyline was really fun and allowed for some great development of their characters individually and in their relationship. The role-reversal meant Iris got the chance to have some fun with powers and be able to see what its like for Barry every time he goes out in the field, and Barry got to experience what it was like to be waiting behind the scenes. It developed a deeper understanding between two and brought about realization for Iris on where her true passions lie, giving us the ending scene where she dives back into her Flash blog. It was the perfect moment to start seeing Iris get back some of that passion she had lost while Barry was gone and Im looking forward to seeing her explore this further.
