Worth a look
smith7316 January 2024
If you're a devout Christian who believes the Gospels are a true accounting of the life of the son of God and his resurrection, then this show is not for you. If you enjoy thought provoking documentaries, think that the Gospels are most likely a legend about a mortal man, a preacher who lived and was crucified, then you should take a look. A lot in the Bible makes little logical sense, and the Gospels are no exception. Some of it is mentioned in this show. But I must say that the conspiracy theory aspect of this show is tenuous. Too much speculation, in my opinion. There's nothing groundbreaking here, but you might want to check it out.

This is the dumbest documentary I've ever seen!

It's completely obliterating entire parts of the Bible (OT and NT) as well as church history to pretend all of this was a simple hidden political plot no one ever heard about and all of this is based on the Jews waiting two messiahs, which is absolutely false.

PC rubbish

'Talentless hacks' is unfair. The creators are 'bigoted' talented hacks.

They simply followed the money. There is a swamp full of bigoted bureaucrats wanting to discredit Christianity. Using taxpayer funds, they commission and buy TV shows to sow seed of doubt, or to spin stories of rubbish in the attack against Christianity.

Without government funding, they would disappear.

Excellent historical rendition of the last days of Jesus
mhahn-8491828 April 2017
This film is based upon historical evidence outside of the gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John about the last days of Jesus. The New Testament is not the only record of the last days of Jesus. Other prominent people who lived during the same period left their infamous mark in history and their story provides another perspective about why Jesus was crucified.

Mostly speculation
dneher23 January 2019
The filmmakers take a few tidbits that have been known to New Testament historians for decades and use those to spin a largely speculative account of Jesus' final days. As if sensing the thinness of the material, they pad the movie with several unnecessary and unnecessarily graphic scenes of violence.

Common sense vs blind faith
emiliabresciani23 April 2017
I find this movie a lot more common-sense than that story we Christians have been told during the last two thousand years. It is unfortunate that the byline is so biased one wonders how IMDb allowed it to describe such a well produced and intelligent documentary. Regardless of how those of blind faith feel, different versions about the life of Jesus need to be presented in this age of analytical intelligence. It does not proclaim to be the truth but it adds to an intelligent debate. Well done PBS!

Another look on the events that shaped the world, with historical and archeological evidences, will give us better understanding how we humans interpreted and practiced our lifes based on holy texts. From dark ages to liberties, from slavery to freedom of speech. A long journey human made, and there is almost nothing good came out good from blind faith.

"Holy Bible" is a Jewish Text Men Wrote...
Erin502669 April 2023
What people tend to forget is what is called the Bible is the history of the Jewish people written by Jewish men for Jewish men basically. It is the Jewish origin story and the history of their religion. God may have given the 10 Commandments to them but the Jewish men were the ones that wrote all the laws to keep control of their people! And everything else was written to give the people hope as well as the history of their people. It's not historic fact so much as history written by the victors. When it comes to the life of Jesus, if Jesus had wanted His ministry recorded, He would have had His followers recorded it. But He didn't and it was written down, of what was remembered almost 100 years after His death. Keeping these things in mind and the fact that these guys were trying to start two new religions, well three because Islam began by using the Jewish Bible as the basis for the Quran as well, one can view this film with an open mind. In this respect it is very well done typical of PBS excellent work and research and the presenters are very professional and knowledgeable. Just keep your organized religious nonsense out of the mix! Jesus is my savior not my religion, BTW! Blessed Easter 2023.
