Killing Joke guitarist Kevin “Geordie” Walker’s influence is vast: Metallica attempted to emulate his guitar snarl on their cover of “The Wait”; Kurt Cobain admittedly ripped off his riff to “Eighties” for “Come As You Are”; LCD Soundsystem synthesized his riff on “Change” and turned it into “Losing My Edge.” Other artists who praised Walker’s playing and Killing Joke include Jimmy Page, Trent Reznor, My Bloody Valentine’s Kevin Shields, and all of Faith No More. Yet Walker himself never became a household name before his death on...

For a music journalist in the Nineties, there could have been no better phone call. Not long after Michael Azerrad hung out with Kurt Cobain for Nirvana’s first Rolling Stone cover story, Courtney Love reached out to ask him if he wanted to write a book about Nirvana. He agreed, and after nine months of breakneck work, he managed to get Come As You Are out in 1993, just in time to coincide with Nirvana’s Nevermind follow-up, In Utero.

A new deluxe reissue of Nirvana’s In Utero, is out today (October 27th) to coincide with the album’s 30th anniversary.
The original In Utero arrived after Nirvana had already become global superstars, and is thematically characterized by the band’s discomfort with their status, particularly from frontman, Kurt Cobain. Celebrating it on the occasion of its 25th anniversary in 2018, Consequence contributor Ryan Bray praised the album as “arguably the truest representation of what Nirvana was: a massive act with the principles and integrity of one half its size… It’s a difficult but ironclad document of artistic bravery.”
Now, the album is being honored in a whole new fashion. Among the 53 unreleased tracks are two full In Utero-era concerts, including the band’s final performance in Seattle, as well as six bonus live tracks recorded at various shows around the same time. Additionally, the album’s original tracklist,...

Twinkling Watermelon will make you laugh out loud and cry within a span of minutes. At the risk of speaking too soon, we highly recommend this show. If you have a gaping hole for feel-good, slice-of-life family dramas, then put everything down and watch this show. It’s a shame we don’t get to see all the episodes at once, and even with an adorable premise (and cast), the show, in the usual K-drama style, has a lot of secrets that will probably be revealed very slowly, and we’ll have to painstakingly wait another six weeks for the show to be completed. Hyun-Wook, who is really getting acknowledged for his fantastic work, is already becoming a big star, playing roles in shows like “D.P.” and now with a lead role such as this one. He shines in comedy, and together with Ryeoun, they make a terrific duo. At the same time,...

Soon after Michael Azerrad first published the touchstone Nirvana biography Come As You Are: The Story of Nirvana in 1993, his subject’s future was cut much too short. Now, in honor of its 30th anniversary, Azerrad is bringing the book up to date with The Amplified Come As You Are: The Story of Nirvana, a “super-expanded” version that’s out October 24th.
Come As You Are was already celebrated upon its release, written in close collaboration with Nirvana and even co-signed by Kurt Cobain as “the best rock book [he’d] ever read.” But just seven months after the biography was published, Cobain died by suicide, completely re-contextualizing the stories Azerrad had just told — and designating Come As You Are as the only book about Nirvana to ever feature original interviews with all three band members.

Courtney Love, 58, posted a tribute to her late husband Kurt Cobain on Instagram, marking the 29th anniversary of his death. The image was a black-and-white photo of Cobain’s hands clasped together that was taken by R.E.M. singer Michael Stipe.
Love wrote, “It is one of the only images (or sounds/ tastes etc) that makes me miss him deeply. He chanted with me & often, & truly was moved by our Buddhist practice. Thus, I know he’s in an enlightened place, more so, than we here in mappo are.”
Cobain is known as the lead vocalist for the band Nirvana. The 90s rock group helped popularize the grunge scene in the Pacific Northwest with singles like “Smells Like Teen Spirit” and “Come As You Are.”
Love, the lead singer of Hole, and Cobain married in 1992. Cobain died by suicide on April 5, 1994. The couple shared one child together, daughter Frances Bean.

Most people would agree that Nirvana’s music embodies the spirit of Generation X, yet they never managed to write a song worthy of becoming number one. In fact, they never even breached the top five. However, one song, “Smells Like Teen Spirit” managed to get close and went on to become the anthem of the grunge era.

Some classic rock lyrics are ionic. Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit” gave us one of the most famous lyrics of the 1990s: Here we are now, entertain us.” Kurt Cobain explained the origin of that line. Subsequently, he discussed why his opinion of the song soured over time.

During a 1994 interview with Rolling Stone, Cobain was asked to explain the origin of “Here we are now, entertain us.” “That came from something I used to say every time I used to walk into a party to break the ice,” he said.

Three people show their true colors in our exclusive clip from Come As You Are. Described by our own J Hurtado as "a charming, poignant, affectionate take on the road trip movie" (quote from his positive review), the film follows three young men with disabilities as they embark on a journey that may, possibly, change their lives. The official synopsis notes the reason for their trip is to "flee their overbearing parents on a road trip to a brothel in Montreal catering to people with special needs. Sam (Gabourey Sidibe), a traveling nurse, drives the three guys across the border as they go on this trip to lose their virginity and embrace their independence. The film is based...

Edward Norton went on the defensive after comedian and actress Janeane Garofalo accused him of costing her a role in David Fincher’s 1999 cult classic “Fight Club.” Garofalo joined Yahoo’s Build Series last week for an interview to promote her new film “Come As You Are” and revealed that she was nearly cast as Marla Singer opposite Norton and Brad Pitt in “Fight Club.” Singer is the film’s most prominent female character. Helena Bonham Carter played the role in the movie. Garofalo said Norton told Fincher she “didn’t have the chops” to play the role and instead lobbied for the director to cast his then-girlfriend Courtney Love.
“I was like, ‘Can I audition with him or for him?'” the actress said. “And I was told that he would like Courtney Love to do it, because he was dating her, but Brad Pitt said, ‘I’m not...

They say love and a real connection to someone are hard to come by. There are countless songs written on the very subject. Just in time for Valentine’s Day, the new film, “Come As You Are” tackles that topic with a bit of a twist — three men with disabilities take a road trip to gain more social and romantic experience with women.
“Come As You Are” is based on the acclaimed Belgian film “Hasta La Vista,” which was widely praised by critics.

"Goin' to the chapel and we're gonna get married," sang The Dixie Cups in "Chapel of Love," written by Jeff Barry, Ellie Greenwich and Phil Spector. In Come As You Are, three young men with disabilities are most definitely not going to a chapel intending to marry. Instead, per the official synopsis, they "flee their overbearing parents on a road trip to a brothel in Montreal catering to people with special needs." Hmm, this really does not sound like The Dixie Cups. The synopsis continues: "Sam (Gabourey Sidibe), a traveling nurse, drives the three guys across the border as they go on this trip to lose their virginity and embrace their independence. "To our boners!" Samuel Goldwyn Films has unveiled an official trailer for an indie sex comedy titled Come As You Are, which first premiered at the SXSW Film Festival earlier this year. It also went on to play at the Traverse City, Calgary, Tallgrass, Philadelphia, and Napa Valley Film Festivals throughout the past year. This film is yet another of the English-language remakes of European films (this one is based on Hasta La Vista). Three young men with disabilities hit the road with a jaded nurse as a driver to a brothel in Montreal catering to people with special needs. Starring Grant Rosenmeyer, Hayden Szeto, & Ravi Patel, plus Gabourey Sidibe, Delaney Feener, Asta Philpot, Janeane Garofalo, and C.S. Lee. This looks like an amusing, uplifting "buddy pic" about some folks who don't normally get the spotlight in indie comedies. Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Richard Wong's Come As You Are,...

Lil Peep was barely 21 years old and already an international star when he died from an overdose of Xanax and fentanyl on his tour bus in Tucson in 2017. Peep was divisive in his lifetime; a gangly outcast from Long Island with a “Crybaby” face tat and hair the color of Fruity Pebbles milk, he sang lucid and dark lullabies about death, misery, rampant drug use, and groupie sex. In the critical establishment, reflexive skepticism towards his flamboyant appearance and unsubtle blend of alt-rock, pop-punk, and trap inevitably turned into curiosity,...
