Alright but not great
Glomb13 August 2019
Big horror fan and this puts a little bit of a twist on the 'slasher-esque' genre. Unfortunately I felt it fell a little bit short of what it was trying to achieve. The lead up to the main events was quite weak and there were a few scenes which I felt added nothing.

There is not really much suspense or gore or really anything that frightening in this. The characters are paper thin and the main characters motivation is not really well explained.

Underneath it's pretty much a standard people get killed one by one type of film with a bit of a twist to it. It is an ok indie-feeling horror flick but not one you will probably remember after the credits.

Worth a watch but there are much better films with similar ideas which manage to pull it off better.

Meta film-making
HairyMart119 April 2019
It's not fair to describe this as a bad film, but the supposedly meta nature of this film just did not work - I just didn't get it. I like a film with some ambiguity but here there are character and story arcs that just make no sense. The idea of a filmmaker under extreme pressure to make a film is not new, but you can see that writer/director is trying something different. The result though seems to be wholly dependant on a very specific set of circumstances, which could easily be undone at any point by a more obvious choice. Still maybe worth a view if you like something a bit more out there, but not for me.

A Movie for Cucks by Cucks
stonetemple-512298 September 2019
Am I the only one tired of being preached at in my movies? This is yet another example of filmmakers thinking they're smarter than the people who they're suppose to be making the movie for.

White knighting around and saying the women are treated like garbage in movies is boring. Men are treated bad on movies too, but you don't see anyone making movies about that, do you? Instead, I when I'm sitting down to get my mind off stuff, I get another reminder that men are evil, women are perfect. I'm tired of it.

The acting is terrible, it's trying so hard to be deep, has nothing to say, the music sounds like its placeholder stuff. They probably found it for free on the internet and then to top it off it looks like it was shot on a phone. Find something else to watch, like a black screen and you'll have more fun. NO THANKS!

Serious missed opportunity
kannibalcorpsegrinder11 September 2019
Arriving at a secluded house, a desperate filmmaker tries to blow through the filming of his low-budget movie as quickly as possible only for the pressures of filmmaking to finally cause him and the rest of the crew to snap their sanity and place them all in mortal danger.

For the most part, there wasn't a whole lot to like with this one. One of the few memorable moments here is the fact that the film goes for a rather intriguing and modern take on the film-shoot-gone-wrong meta-horror film. Featuring the actress who's completely out of her element being on her first professional job against the others who have done it before and trained for it allows for a rather chilling time here when things start to go wrong as the idea of them not believing her due to the inexperience of shooting a movie is a far more realistic explanation for doing so. Instead of just laughing off the claims about someone killing the cast, their take of her not knowing the intricacies of filmmaking carries a fair amount of weight which is quite interesting to play out here. This adds a nice sense of tension and genuine thrills to the stalking scenes that transpire here as the killer coming along and doing it all for the sake of the film, turning victims around to face the cameras better or get the blood spray to face them. However, that's all that works here as the film has plenty of problems. Among the more troubling issues is the fact that this setup here doesn't generate any kind of likable qualities that forms the basis for the supposed comedy here. Instead, this is treated more like a quirky group of individuals who are simply well-worn tropes that have nothing all that much done differently with them. The fact that is supposed to be funny because the concept of these people running around the house who are aware of what's going on and mentioning the hip modern lingo during these conversations is nowhere close to generating a laugh. The actual film they're making doesn't raise suspicions based on the genuinely interesting proposition that they're simply doing the same thing over and over again without anyone mentioning or reacting to that valid point. On top of that, the film's other problem is that it simply makes no sense for the vast majority of its actions. The central concept for the film makes so little sense that it's hard to take seriously. With a finale that makes no sense at all and no motivation for anything that happens here, there's a lot of flaws here.

Rated Unrated/R: Graphic Violence, Brief Nudity and Language.

Worthless in every way
Don't be suckered in by the fake 10 star reviews. Actually, just read the first 9 words of the synopsis and you'll know everything you need to know about this movie.

Horrible not Horror
ferdmalenfant14 August 2019
This thing should not even be called a movie. It is actually someone who tries and fails miserably to make some kind of film. Anyone can make a movie these days. If this one cost more than $5000. total it was still a loss for the investors. Oh so BAD

Incredibly crap.
sian_b_badger19 August 2019
The only thing incredible about this film is that someone paid to produce this rubbish.

They tried to add a few twists & turns but the acting is so bad & the plot is so boring, that even if a random glow in the dark unicorn popped up tap-dancing in the film, you wouldn't care enough to look up from your phone on which you are watching a video of paint drying.

My Review Of "Incredible Violence"
ASouthernHorrorFan10 October 2019
Condon has created a truly inventive story, taking common tropes from killer thrillers and exploitation cinema and putting a fresh spin on the standards. There is the classic psycho killer persona and a nice collection of young women. The story brings in elements of serial psychology and aspects of POV/CCTV that really grabs onto the whole guerilla filmmaking ideology. All blended in a storied span of comfortable and captivating cinematography.

"Incredible Violence" gets meta with all it's layered psychotica. At first I didn't think I would like the film. I expected it to fall apart and become a hot mess. Don't make that mistake when you set out to watch this movie. Condon does great at keeping the structure and continuity flowing. The acting varies from decent to great from scene to scene depending on the cast. Mostly I just became swept up in the story. That being said, there are a few moments that actions and dialog becomes clunky and muddled, but things rebound quickly.

The horror and violence is full frontal for most of the film's edgy, thriller scenes. It is brutal, exploitative and celebratory. However the cruelty and coldness has purpose. It isn't just for the sake of showing some blood stained flesh. It is shown in contrast to the antagonist's motivation. We are watching a movie of a movie in the making. One in which budget concerns and ingenuity are always an issue. Even flaws are arguably intentional, artistic elements. And superficially the kill sequences look good and at times intense.

Overall I enjoyed "Incredible Violence". It is creative and entertaining. The story is complex and complete. I found the characters to be fully developed, relatable characters instead of explotational fluff. The quality of the cinematography is nicely done considering the low-budget nature. The horror elements have purpose and maintain a gritty, affective quality. There are a few flaws but for the most part this is a indie horror worth checking out.

what does this picture really represent?
rgenerateus5 September 2019
Low budget attempt (that succeeded) to create artificial snuff film. Allegedly the excuses are offered as desperation, low self esteem, ignorance, lack of IQ and simply blood lust that is present in film industry. Moreover, "poor" producer is being harassed by a cult of rich/mafia/aliens/demons?!?. Poor story, even poorer execution. Quite demented for no reason. Interesting enough, it got nominated. Funny!!!

A Trip!
HarryOhReally26 August 2019
This is wacked out and will offend the average horror movie fan. It's more like Funny Games then Cabin in the Woods. Some good scenes, a good ending. I think there are too many ideas here and wish the filmmakers stuck to just one or two and fleshed them out more.

Worth the watch.

Don't Waste Your Time

This is quite possibly the worst movie I have ever seen... The stupidity is only outdone by the comically cliche over done story lines and bad acting.

"I Love Movies"
RightHand2God8 September 2019
The meta-horror movie is almost as over-done as the found footage horror movie. Incredible Violence shows that there is still new angles to explore with meta and the result is a fun movie that stuck with me well after the movie was over.

The Good:

  • The idea and the movie are funny. A director has to make a horror movie, doesn't have the money anymore so he decides to kill actors for real and deliver that to the people he owes. Easier said then done as the bumbling would-be Jason or Mike Myers finds that actors won't do what they're told, people don't die as easily as the movies say they do, and the clean up takes forever.

  • There are two or three scenes that you can see how much fun the crew had making. It reminds me a newer day Tarantino because the joy of making it is palpable.

  • Steven Oates is a star in the making. We don't see nearly enough of him as I would have liked. I was left wanting more and cannot wait to see this guy in other movies.

The Bad:

  • A few performances are shaky. Dollar-store Jason Mamoa can't seem to make up his mind if he's a good guy or a creep. Might be a problem with the writing but it took me out of the movie whenever he was on screen.

  • The low budget shows in a few of the effects shots. It doesn't ruin the movie, but, again, it took me out of it for a moment.

End conclusion is that this is a movie I'm glad I watched. I'm not a huge fan of horror movies so the levels of violence wasn't exactly a walk in the park for me but it was used sparingly and wasn't as in bad taste as the title would suggest. Show the kids!

Side note: I hope they make a sequel someday which is the making of this movie. Meta-in-meta-in-meta!!

Feminist Horror a MUST watch in 2019
MsChurchill6 September 2019
I came across this movie by accident. I never heard anything about it before hand, I liked the title and the poster. I can't believe I'm not hearing more about this movie!!! ESPECIALLY after the #MeToo Movement. It's clear the filmmakers were paying attention to what women have been saying since those creeps in Hollywood have been exposed. If you want to know where these feelings are coming from in the entertainment business, then this movie will educate you about what women go through to obtain their dreams.

The movie follows the story of the director (G. Patrick Condon, played by Steven Oates) but the more interesting story and who the movie is truly about is Grace (brilliantly portrayed by MJ Kehler). A first time actor who gets what she thinks is a lucky break by being cast as the lead actor in a run-of-the-mill slasher movie. Grace starts the movie off by being young, hopeful with stars in her eyes (Literally the first thing she says in the movie is the famous Sally Field "You Like Me" oscar speech) and from there she willing puts herself in situations that I was screaming at the screen for her to be smarter about (when your co-stars go missing, you leave!) but she pushes herself further and further because she must attain her dream of being an actor.

I think MJ and the filmmakers were making a statement throughout the movie about how insane women are treated in the movie business. Even in most of the information I've seen written about this movie, it focuses on the MAN killer character when the real story is about Grace, but like most men bloggers, the woman's story comes 2nd and the man's story is put front and centre. This all dovetails when Elizabeth makes a speech about how she got into the movie business. Her first role was a woman's horror story about being naked in an audition with a room full of men, having been promised one thing and then given another.

If this is what a post-Harvey Weinstein Hollywood looks like, then sign me up. 10/10. An important movie that everyone needs to watch.

A Great Film Derailed By Nonsense!!!
jiyecoji23 September 2019
This is just a good movie. Don't know why so many are making it political. There's BARELY anything about #MeToo. It's mostly about people who want to be famous and what they would do to get there. It's worth the watch, but not everything needs to be a statement about society. Give it a rest!

Good little movie with solid performances all around. Might be a bit violent and gory for some people's taste but it was fun and hit the spot for me.

10 for a Canadian Movie
salstockbroker-811838 September 2019
I never watch movies from Canada because...well you know. But I didn't find out until after that was the case with this movie. It has to be the best movie ever made in that country to by definition it's a 10. If it was on the American and British system then it's probably more like a 6. Has some good ideas, some funny parts. Some acting is flaky. There's a lot going on. Too much.

This isn't a dumb American horror movie. This actually takes some thought and intelligence to understand so if you're stupid don't bother with this movie.

Wow....just WOW
AvaEtoctober15 October 2019
WOW...just got finished watching this movie, I actually clicked on it by accident...I didn't know what it was and almost turned on something else...I'm so glad I decided to watch it..This is one of the best movies, if not the best I have seen all year...

I will be on the lookout for other movies from this director, VERY well done..and the lead actor did a tremendous job as well, and has a bright future ahead...

I won't get into what the story is about...but I will say that growing up as an actor can be VERY tough...I know...You feel like you are alone... and no one understands you...So if any other actors are reading this...Hold on...We all find ourselves...eventually
