Welcome Back Task Force Hawaii Five Oahu, Five-Oahu, Five-O
dncorp30 September 2017
Warning: Spoilers
In recent News, September 2017, Honolulu Police Department is looking for a New Police Chief. Wonder why Steve McGarrett's name wasn't on the list.

Inserting Footage from the Every Year California Fires. (Hawaii does not have many buildings with orange red ceramic tile roofs like Northern California).

Helicopter lifts building (balsa wood stage prop).....Not going to happen (real building), not that kind of Helicopter, maybe a U.S. Army "Skycrane" CH-54 or Civilian S-64 "Skycrane" being Heavy Lift Helicopters, minimal weight of their own, basically all Engine and (Huge Wide and Long)Rotors.

Same complaints to Hawaii Five-O Creator Leonard Freeman, Hawaii Five-O makes it seem that Democrat Oahu is like Democrat Chicago, with the strictest Democrat Anti Gun Laws but the most Gun Related Crimes. And the Locals that know that on an Island there is no where to run away to, unlike the Mainland you go to the next State, so it's not the Locals doing most of the Crimes, it's the Mainland Haoles that see the Unarmed Locals as very easy pickings.

And Yes, it was Hawaii Five-O creator Leonard Freeman in a KGMB TV Interview, that explained Task Force Five Oahu, Five-O, not Five Minus Zero. He also had to apologize Publicly because of the numbers of Haoles versus Locals (Hawaii Labor Unions and Hawaii Actors Guild) used on the Hawaii Five-O TV Series because the Democrat U.S. Labor Unions at Hawaii Threatened a Strike against Hawaii Five-O.

Vampire Mick St John
garysteinweg3 October 2017
At about the 14 minute point, the Five-O team is trying to identify a bogus passenger recently arrived in Hawaii. They home in on the one passenger that doesn't make sense, "Mick St John." No raised eyebrows, nothing but the HPD cross-over stating that, "that name's about as real as a three dollar bill." Surprised no one else caught it.

I'm seeing more and more of this (I think they call it "easter eggs") showing up in all sorts of movies and TV programs. Or, maybe I've just got too much time on my hands.

P.S. - I thought the Moonlight series was very well done, and shouldn't have been canceled after just one season.

P.S.2. - I haven't even finished watching this episode, so I going to just give it an 8.

Writers Insult The Intelligence of Their Audience
patrickkilmartin7 October 2017
I did't think it'd be possible to further insult the intelligence of its viewers with that raging forest fire in a very green tropical rain forest....until the writers/producers pulled that stunt with the cabin. OMG! it took every ounce of willpower not to throw something at my TV!!!!

The good - Meaghan Rath, the bad - the writing
cpotato101018 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
OK, I think everyone else has pointed out how bad the cabin stunt was, let me add my vote against as well.

What I did find good was the entrance of Meaghan Rath, in particular after saving Aaron Wright from a deserved fate. Her interactions with the rest of the Five-O team were great.

On the other hand, in addition to the truly unbelievable cabin stunt, the on-going CBS series magical hacker abilities were almost as bad. Aaron can hack a prison computer system, which should have been air-gapped and inaccessible from outside the prison.

Aslo, the meme of stopping a car and opening the drivers door? Most cars since at least 1999 have auto-locking door locks that lock when either the car is started, or when it first starts moving. The idea that you can just walk up to a car that was being driven and open the car door is a ludacris as the rest of their writing.

Also let me add my vote that letting Grace Park and Daniel Dae Kim go was a bad idea. Just as stupid as CBS execs messing with the cast of Criminal Minds (2005).

No rating stars, it was a toss-up. 9 stars for adding Meaghan Rath, 1 star or less for the writing and losing Grace Park and Daniel Dae Kim.

It was really really great! They brought in the new character (Tani) very nicely and the storyline was very well written and fun. Good episode!

Jumped the shark
westleyi1 October 2017
This once credible show has descended into a fantasy world of fake fires and unbelievable escapes. I have no idea how the writers believed they could get away with this rubbish or how CBS could accept it. I may be persuaded to watch one more episode, but if this one is a precursor for this season, it will be my last.

This episode was so amazing, until that cabin scene.
rarekutkop30 September 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I really enjoyed it at first with the escape from Jason Duclair. Always liked his Villain type of character. He is a crazy serial arsonist you do not want to mess with. He has help from a hacker that will hack almost the entire prison to let Jason Duclair escape, brilliant writing if you ask me. Then Jason sets of a fire on 3 people in a house. Then Jason wants to burn the hacker he had help from but Five-O gets there just in time to safe him, now the craziness begins.. Jason sets off an entire woods on fire to cover his escape. Its almost like half of the island is on fire and the Entire island could see the smoke. Really loved those scenes and it shows how crazy Jason Duclair really was.. Five-0 sets Duclair in a trap and catches him, but the team and Duclair are all trapped in the middle of a fire. They go to a cabin in the woods and try to survive for their lives. Steve goes into the woods again for help. And he gets that from a helicopter. Now Jason was tied up to a chair in the cabin but gets loose and escapes the Cabin going directly into the fire. Steve comes back and is flying the helicopter to the Cabin, and from this scene it gets absolutely ridiculous. Steve brings down some straps. The 3 of them could easily hang on those straps but no, they have to build it under the cabin so that Steve can make that Cabin loose and fly away with it. Are you guys serious? I know this hasn't been the most realistic show since the beginning and i really don't care about realism but come on. This was probably the most ridiculous thing i have ever seen in a television show. It ruined the entire episode for me. At the end they find Jason Duclair his body and he is dead. Steve and Danny are making plans for opening a restaurant. The hacker is also the brother of former hacker Ian Wright. The one that kidnapped Lou Grovers daughter. So that was a crazy twist. I also really like the new girl, can't wait to see what she has to offer!

1/10 because of that hilariously dumb Cabin scene.

Another show destroyed by lost chemistry!
rebeccaj-9002828 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This is the first episode without Chin and Kono. Daniel Dae Kim and Grace Park came on this show as the two most well-known team members of Five-0 - Park from Battlestar Galactica and Kim from Lost. O'Loughlin and Caan weren't really known for anything until this show. Kim and Park simply wanted the pay that was equal to their white male counterparts. But the powers that be refused and so shattered the successful chemistry of this amazing show. And, as we've seen many times, once you screw with the chemistry of a hit show, there's an explosion in the chemistry lab. People of color are notoriously paid less than their white counterparts in the film industry (and elsewhere) even if they may be the ones people are tuning in or paying to watch. It's ridiculous and unfair. But as I write this, Park and Kim are enjoying great success post Five-0 while the show only lasted 3 more seasons after their departures. I have deep respect for both Park and Kim to be willing to leave when CBS was unwilling to properly and fairly negotiate their salaries.

Oh Dear where is Kono?
kris-gray18 January 2018
Warning: Spoilers
It is not and will not be the same without Kono and Cuz how can the producers let two of the best cast members go because of a salary dispute, at least that's what I've been led to believe? Then they replace Kono with yet another actress who just stepped off the catwalk, are all detectives in the USA supermodels? is there anyone in the US who is not drop dead good looking as Hollywood would have us believe? OK Jorge Garcia isn't Mr Universe but a rare sight never the less.

This first episode is daft to say the least. A forest fire in Hawaii? unlikely then they take shelter in a wood cabin, I mean really a wooden cabin that doesn't catch fire? Then a helicopter that manages to hover just above the fire with Steve who somehow managed to escape the blaze when the firestarter didn't. Then to compound the incredability this small copter manages to lift the whole cabin and take them to safety. Who writes this crap and who passed it for filming?

I've enjoyed most of the previous seasons but this is a bad start for number 8, unless it improves I can see me dropping out.

Sometimes they go too far
jared7923 September 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Most of the time 5-0 is a great show. Great characters, good writing (most of the time). But wow, what a stinker this episode was. It's bad enough that we lost Chin and Kono over a stupid pay dispute. This isn't the first time they have asked us to ignore physics and common sense, but they really pushed it too far this time. While it won't stop me from watching the show, this was not a good start to the season. Hoping it gets better and the writers really need really stop insulting our intelligence.

WOW! That has to have been the dumbest...
robertjc-212 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Friggin' ending I've ever seen. P So let me get this straight... The chopper which Steve somehow miraculously is not only saved by but suddenly is ALONE piloting cannot lift 3 people with 4 heavy duty drop lines BUT can pickup an entire cabin with them all it it!!!??? Cannot believe they would even float this idea to the producers. Guess the drugs were really good that week!!!

They cut the wrong 2 cast members.
fastpuppy1 October 2017
Meaghan Rath is possibly the MUCH needed breath of fresh air this show needed but why couldn't they have kept Kelly Hu and Kim and lost the (over) tired dynamic of O'Loughlin & Caan.

Rath, is a good actress (maybe too good for this show) but it was great to see her in a more physical role. She did play a cop in Banshee but here the fight choreography was quite good.

Sadly the show is still saddled with the bickering duo of Steve and Dano while it lost the stability of Chin Ho and the apparent swissarmy skillset (technical, sniper, tactical, etc...) of Kono.

This show is on life support but they are safe as long as CBS can't fill a schedule and people watch this tripe.

Not believable
redcale26 May 2018
Warning: Spoilers
The whole fire part was SO bad; fire wouldn't spread that fast and get as big as that from a single source, especially in a dampish environment like the island. AND that chopper wouldn't have enough lift to pick up all the weight of that entire cabin+furniture + metal wood stove + 500lbs of personnel, etc. Stretching believability wayyy too far.

Call this a mulligan
ottawa1016 October 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Perhaps the worst show in series history but I gave it a 4 because I think there was chaos in putting it together. I think they rewrote everything after Kim and Park left the show. It looks like a last minute job.

The show had no story. Ian Wrights brother breaks Duclair out of prison and then Duclair tries to kill him. WHY? They get caught in a fire and McGarret finds a helicopter and rather than lift three people up in 15 seconds, he lifts an entire cabin up in 4 minutes. WHY? Again, the loss of Kim and Park I think threw a curve in the show. I imagine they had everything ready for the full cast and then had to re-story and re-shoot in a short time so I will forgive this episode.

Once great show made garbage by the freaks at CBS
mikeap-8919830 September 2017
This show has averaged an 8 rating over 7 years on IMDb. As expected, by losing 50% of the 5 0 Task Force, this episode and this season are unwatchable. Looks like you were penny wise and pound foolish, huh Less-y Boy (Les Moonves). Season 8 will lose money for CBS, nobody is going to by the DVD at the end of the season (I own all 7 previous DVDs), ratings are going to continue to tank as it's gone from a great ensemble cast to a finish-out-your-contract money grab by CBS. Which will blow up, or is blowing up, in their ratings and money face.

This is now a throw everything but the kitchen sink at it TV show as they take all kinds of bit-part actors and elevate them to the main characters in a desperate attempt to cover up their casting mistake at the end of last season.

So if you are a Hawaii Five 0 fan, it ended at season 7. True 5 0 fans should leave their reviews on this site and others so it becomes abundantly clear to CBS that the self-pleasuring psychos that run CBS television, and their out to lunch boss Moonves, ruined through willful negligence a great show. However, if you are interested in being CBS's abused spouse, then Season 8 is for you.

Worst episode ever
chiluvr12282 October 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I was never a big fan of this show but since I don't have cable I would half watch it while doing other things but last night was the worst and most ridiculous episode ever. Serial arsonist DuClair or something like that is broken out of jail by Joey Lawrence's character, (not sure why as I didn't turn it on until a few minutes after it started.) People die, car chases, etc., pretty much the usual until DuClair starts a fire in the forest after escaping once again which is starting to consume everything EXCEPT wherever the cast happens to be. It's like there's a protective bubble around them. Steve tries to get help while the rest of the gang take refuge in an abandoned shack which is also miraculously untouched. Steve comes back with a helicopter with three straps but instead of our three cops using the straps to pull themselves into the helicopter Steve decides to lift the whole house up with this small helicopter! The stupidity of these writers has finally done if for me. Between the corny CGI, terrible story lines including Steve needing a liver transplant and yet he still works like nothing happened and then these crazy scenes I am done with this show.

I guess Friday is the wasteland for network shows because I can't even believe it's even made it this far.

Good God, what a joke
tjmac_otr9 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This show continues to astound me as to how the writers kept their jobs. How about the three merely wrap the straps under arms and attach it to itself? Then the helicopter lifts them all out at once. Well within the lift load of that helicopter.

Daniel Dae Kim and Grace Park probably breathed a sigh of release realizing the bullet they dodged here.

If only O'Loughlin died in a fire
johnshaft4214 July 2018
So the show was originally built on Alex O'Loughlin and Scott Caan's characters. That was what drew the execs to the show. What kept the audience was Daniel Dae Kim and Grace Park.

When the two Asian actors left due to salaray discrepancies, O'LOUGHLIN said something to the effect of "we've got the actors who want to be here." He said that, despite the Asian actors carrying the show while he was in rehab. Way to support your castmates. He's nothing but another generic Hollywood pretty boy. This is his swan song. Whether Hawaii 50 lasts another season or 100, he's done when it's over.

Oh, and this episode was just BAD. Did O'Loughlin demand the scene where he took off his tactical vest, took off his short-sleeve shirt, put on another short-sleeve shirt and put his tactical vest back on? Because I don't think his shirtless chest is what brought anyone to the show. Ever.

Worst ending EVER

I've never written a review before. However I had to rate this stupid episode. It was a decent episode until the final rescue. It was so ridiculous that I may never watch this show again. What were they thinking? Could anyone believe that this was possible? I've never written a review before. However I had to rate this stupid episode. It was a decent episode until the final rescue. Not a good start
brueggemanntami31 March 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I was so sad at losing half the team, but hoping for the best for this show. It was an ok episode, but I have to agree with others about the cabin lift. Didn't make too much sense.

Kono was my favorite person on Hawaii 5-0. I will try to give the new girl a fair chance. However, I was not impressed so far. We'll see where it goes from here. Hopefully things will get better.

Warning: Spoilers
The team is back as they try to enlist a young lady with plenty of mettle to join them in their anti-crime crusade.

She does join as soon finds herself immersed in quite a caper. A hacker frees a pyromaniac from prison and the latter goes around setting fires. The group seems trapped until a pilot named McGarrett takes a helicopter and attaches a hut to it as the crew flies out of danger. For a moment, I thought I was back in The Wizard of Oz with the house flying about from a tornado.

Kono and her cousin shall be sadly missed here. Too bad they had to leave the show after a salary dispute. Grace Park and our new task force commander in San Francisco made their mark on the show during the past several seasons. Will Daniel Dae Kim now have all the time to return to Broadway as he did in The King and I?
