Interesting doc
iturk10 June 2020
One question has really bugged me out through the TWOH, how the hack do they afford to feed all those children? Feed them, clothe them, educate them, crazy! Yeah one time, it has been mentioned that some working though it seems non of the male characters had a regular jobs. Do they collectively raise money or some people are donating to the community or what? Also what will happen if they keep multiplying as is, and having 16 children, not a sustainable community life.

Interesting, disturbing at times

Warning: Spoilers
Very compelling viewing looking inside polygamous marriages of fundamentalist Mormons. I loved the idea of creating their own community, the idyllic setting those children are being raised in, running and playing in the sunshine. Many times I heard one of the adults say that it's a difficult way of life, but they hope it will make them better people and take them to the highest heaven. It begs the question, difficult for who, who are being tested? The wives are the ones who have to struggle sharing their husband, having to cope with natural feelings of jealousy, watching their man kissing and hugging, going out on dates with another woman in front of them. Receiving a gift isn't so special when the others get it as well. Don't see the men suffering much, sleeping, having sex with several women and always looking for another, so difficult for him eh? Of course if one of the wives okay up, how do they cope with this difficulty? Well if you don't like it leave. I felt sorry for some of the women, think they've bitten off more then they can chew. The cracks were certainly showing when one of them wants to marry his dead brothers widows, adding 2 to the number.

Only enforced my view that polygamy is oppressive to women, dead easy for men, especially as they seem it can make them 'godlike'

Informative documentary on a taboo subject.
bellamammamia11 October 2018
Polygamy a taboo subject is handled with care, explores without sugar coating the day to day issues of their chosen marital arrangements. This is not a cult but rather a closeted community of like-minded spiritual people living out of sight because of their religious beliefs and their need to live the life they believe brings them closer to God. While well done and informative, I would have rated this documentary higher if polygamy laws and fear of prosecution were not just touched upon but instead explored the arguments for and against in better detail. All in all this docu-series provides a perspective of polygamy one should see and understand before passing judgement.

What about equality?

Warning: Spoilers
I liked the show, obviously it was somehting new for me to watch. I get the slightest feeling that there may have been a tiny attempt to look happier and not conservative from the women. I respect polygamy if someone wishes to do so, but when only one member of the relationship has the benefits, it is quite unsettling to me. The kids seem to grow up in loving environments, but I am wondering wether they have an opportunity to join society later int heir lives.

Very interesting and well done... disappointed in other raters
speteolis16 November 2018
I think this was done really well. I was genuinely interested and invested in the family's in the show. I think they did a good job highlighting a lot of the similarities and differences in "traditional" monogamous relationships and generally made the entire show very engaging.

It also made me a bit disturbed how some of the people rating this reacted. giving low ratings because they thought the life choices of those portrayed in the show were, presumably, morally wrong. This again presumably on the grounds that the people where... unhappy sometimes and had conflicts. It was clear in the show that all the people lived mostly happy and fulfilled lives while being in loving supportive families.

How to be a better narc - join polygamist mormons I just had a chance to barely watch two episodes of this..Honestly this is just crazy! Polygamist mormons were created by a horny man, that was not capable of normal feeling/love/life and used a religion to again wash the brains..They convicted the women, that polygamist marriages and have a 100's kids, they are more like "God".. I know they are human beings etc..but this way yeah the world we know ends for sure..I couldn't watch more eps of this, coz I've seen a happy man (satisfied with tons of sex with his "wives") and frustrated, depressed women, some of them tried to pretend how awesome it is, 'coz they just try to put the feeling of depression behind and find happiness in kids.. It gave me anxiety, seriously I've never seen something that would give me so much negative energy and I started to watch it with open mind ☝🏻 based on some reviews I checked and then gave it a try.. I am sorry but this is so wrong and I feel bad for that kids etc..I'm out of words

Crazy!
aevaughn-7730518 October 2018
The only people making a true sacrifice in this polygamous lifestyle are the WOMEN! Go fig. The man can marry whomever, whenever, and however many he wants...while these women become wife #1-5, get one night with the man, and have to put on a "happy face" like they are so happy with their lifestyles. Ugh!

WOW
mkmaclennan26926 January 2020
I was so intrigued by this lifestyle already and I loved being able to get a glimpse into these people's lives. It was so well done gaining insight into each individual person's mindset, struggles, hopes, and visions for their family. I have been fortunate to know several Mormons and have never met a Fundamentalist Morman that practices plural marriage. This piece was done in such a way that I feel as though I know and understand them on a deeper level. Beautiful. Heard. Respected.

Hard to watch for women with a mind of their own
sanda_moroianu27 June 2020
I never cease to wonder at how religion can twist people's minds! How little must a woman think of herself in order to not only accept, but be thrilled at the idea that she'll become a n-th wife of a guy who believes he's a direct emissary of God! How twisted is this representation of faith!? How does one manage to educate so many children, let alone feed, shoe and dress them? I can understand that women coming from the same religious background, with little education and probably no experience of the real word, are eager to embrace the same lifestyle. Needless to mention that men are thrilled to enjoy the intimate company of a different woman every night, but how about the children? The positive aspect of raising them in the open, without the oh, so common invasion of technology, is clearly a plus. At the same time, keeping them under the unique influence of a distorted view on religion is blatant abuse. If everyone in that community really believes in what they say, I pity them for not wanting to know any better. If they just play along to a tune which is actually just a smoke screen to hide insecurity, lust or who knows what else, well then, praised be the Lord! But often in this series the eyes and the body language tell another story than the mouth.

Opened up my Eyes! Very well done.
donnakivirauma23 September 2018
I have always held a negative opinion about polygamists. I thought they were abusing women. After watching this show I realized what a bigot I have been. These are people who love and care deeply for one another. Just because you don't agree with someone else's religion does not mean it is bad or wrong. Really opened up my eyes. Thank you for making this series. It is important work.

Very interesting watch but skirted around child brides and pedophilia within Polygamy groups
rebbianderson31 December 2019
This show sucks you in but I got a strong sense they only showed the viewer what they were ok with people seeing. They talked about people being concerned about the women and I believe most peoples concern was for the children. They showed the budding romance of two sixteen year olds but what about the 15 year olds forced to marry adults? In some polygamous groups they believe a young girl is ready to marry when she starts menstrating and they've been married off as young as 11 years old. It's called pedophilia and it was buried during the making of this film unfortunately. Also when the Chris character was shooting off a gun and all the men got together for a meeting I found it rather sickening it was just the men when women are usually inclined to protect children and not a single one was at a meeting to do with a man shooting a gun around their kids. And he mentioned that the girl he propositioned about being a sister wife was young and maybe that's why she was so upset, I was so curious as to know how young? It must have been young if they didn't say the age. Its difficult to protect children when they're raised to keep quiet and to please but what better way to make a victim or an obeying wife. I really hope for the best for the children.

Very well put together.
daisymlwheidi-6212927 February 2019
This is a very well put together documentary. Whether you agree with the subject or not. It allows the audience to step into the lives of these people and learn more about them. I enjoyed it and was sad it was only 4 episodes. This is a forum for reviewing the documentary and not the people in it. Did the film maker tell the story and are you more informed on the subject matter that before you watched the documentary. I definitely agree that I am and was pleased that I watched this. It think it told the truth and did not sugar coat things. Great Job!

They said I'd change my perspective, but it wasn't.
dvdpritchard9 September 2019
The documentary promised I would change my perspective, for me it moved me in the opposite direction of what they intended. While I believe the documentarians did a fair job of showing the emotions shared by the "wives", the men came out to be spoiled kids, while the women did the vast majority of the emotional heavy lifting. It doesn't even become an issue for me because of the fact that I only approve of being married to one spouse. It's a matter of accepting something that is terribly selfish on one person's part, and has often proven to be abusive even amongst the women (Joseph Smith's own wife pushed his younger pregnant wife down a flight of stairs, and the younger wife miscarried). And the documentary glosses over issues that are key to what involves these parties. Gross financial deficiencies, physical and emotional abuses- all of which have a direct corollary with plural marriage. It is a "We'll make it appear that we are giving all sides a fair shake, but really we only want to share one perspective."

Great documentary
ezgiycovet10 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This is a very helpful, informative documentary. Its really difficult for me to understand bad ratings and reviews. Their way of life is their business, they dont murder, they dont steal, they dont hurt people yet the society acts like they're criminals. This is just not fair. I am not even Christian and yet respect what they believe. And even from a biological perspective, polygamy exists in nature as well, they are many species who practise it. Monogamy or polygame, they are both beautiful as long as the parties are willing to be in and happy.

More than 66%
kms63335 October 2018
Interesting that more than 66% of their sons can't practice this religion even if all their daughters choose this. Someone needs to do math. No polygamist should be legally married to anyone. Its fraud. It's bad public policy to allow so many men to be unable to secure a spouse due to the gluttony of others.

True feelings exposed
vargasadavid7 October 2018
Warning: Spoilers
This is nothing more than capturing true facial feelings captured on camera! It's like watching my self, psyching myself to get my teeth pulled, the dentist tried to convince me this is good and I put on a happy face in the lobby!

The worst kind
anamariadl7 June 2020
No one wants to say anything about the fact that the men think they are God for having as many wives as possible? Also, the women are so miserable. Especially the one who has to take care of 15 kids while the others are away. I understand this is just a reality show and it's really well documented but it's just disgusting.

TWISTED AND DISGUSTING!!!!
lmtusa15 February 2020
I have actually never ever bothered to waste me time, as a very busy single mom, to go ahead and create an account on this site, but felt COMPELLED to do so in response to this particular title! First off, the ENTIRE concept of what these people are doing is just SO against exactly what Jesus said in the bible against adultery, etc ... and then, witnessing the actual brainwashing of these children is just so horrifying! But in addition to that, I was simply heartbroken for these brainwashed women having to deal with something so anti-christian and anti-humane ... to be having to deal with such an abnormally upsetting and weird relationship status?!

NO woman should put herself through this and the fact that they claim that by making this series, that people might "understand where they are coming from better" is simply astounding to me, as I feel it just highlights all their distortions to real life and spirituality ??!!

Vaguely interesting
ersbel13 October 2018
Sadly this is a very very remote view of the lives of these people. Else everything else is manicured well in advance for the arrival of the cameras.

Also, in my mind it was some connection with "The Witness Wore Red". Yet, the participants make clear that the marriages are voluntary.

Finally, the documentary itself is very very slow. But it gives hope that a low qualifications male with many wives and even more children can lead such lives, so remote from the camps of Syrian refugees or the poverty of the remote Indian villages. Life can be so good in America. Yet, the state is omnipresent. From welfare to employment, most employment there.

So a thought unintended by the film makers who seem to be very favorable to this small community: why do the American tax payers have to pay for these people even if they disagree with this type of family?
